You guys think you're going to get your iPhone on the day of the release if you preordered? Doubt it. I was told it ships on that day?!

Waiting in line for mine. Debating 16 or 32. Only use it for music and apps which isn't that memory consuming

Wondering how much a 4S would sell? 16gb for $300?

I understand that it ships out on the 21st not that you get it the 21st.

Apple will ship it out early but have FedEx put a hold on it so it wont get delivered early.

Applecare+ in this case gives you insurance incase your phone breaks, lets you get a new (or maybe refurb ) for only $49, dont have to buy a brand new phone at out of contract prices if it gets broken.

i know for most they probably wont use it at all, but shit happens.

I'm definitely getting AppleCare... My iPhone 4 had the home button issue, I went to Apple, he cleaned it, but told him he'd like to replace my phone anyways because I had a tiny scratch, replaced, free. done. Worth every penny.

The replacement cost on my MBP is a lot higher than my iPhone, which is why i opted for AppleCare on my MBP rather than my iPhone. Also, between my belkin silcone case and the power support screen protector both ofmmy iphones have held up really well. I understand that stuff happens but i have always been good about taking care of my gadgets so i no longer worry about buying applecare on my iphone or ipad anymore. I bought Applecare on my iPad2 but not my iPad three.

i dont get the point of applecare on a phone tbh. apple care is 100 dollars and then 49 to replace the phone if the screen breaks. the guy at the mall can change your screen in 20 mins for 100$

I usually wait in line. Have to wait in line this year cause I can't upgrade till release date (21st). But I called them not knowing I wasnt upgradable yet and that's what they told me. :/

Had iPad 1,2,3 and all iPhones and never preordered. :/

I don't get that standing in line BS, esp. when you can get it delivered on the day it comes out in stores.

If you can't upgrade yet you're going to be paying full price, right?

Wait until you're eligible and then buy it for the reduced price.

iPhone 5 Benchmarks Appear in Geekbench Showing a Dual Core, 1GHz A6 CPU
Sep 16, 2012 1:00 pm PDT by Arnold Kim
John Poole of PrimateLabs let us know that the first iPhone 5 benchmark has hit Geekbench.

The results show an iPhone5,2 device running iOS 6 with a Dual-Core 1.02GHz ARMv7 processor and 1GB of RAM.

The total Geekbench 2 score comes in at 1601. Poole notes that the average score for the iPhone 4S is 629 and the average score for the iPad 3 is 766. A comparison chart of previous iOS devices can be viewed at Geekbench. The numbers seem to validate Apple's claim that the A6 processor is twice as fast as the A5 and any previous iOS device. This one score also places the iPhone 5 ahead of the average scores of all Android phones on Geekbench. The full Geekbench results further breakdown processor, memory and bandwidth performance.

The A6 also appears to be clocked higher than the A5 at 1GHz (the iPhone 4S A5 ran at 800Mhz). The 1GB of RAM was previously confirmed by part number markings on the A6 processor itself.

Poole acknowledges that any pre-release results on Geekbench have a chance of being faked, but he seems to believe that these results are legitimate. The iPhone 5 will be available to the general public on September 21st.

So allow me to ask a semi-noob question(s):

Since I'm coming from a 3s, I don't want to take the new 5 and restore data from the old 3s backups. I want to start fresh since the "theory" is that fresh is better than an old backup that could have errors, hiccups, etc in the system over the past 3 years.

So.....

I will set up "as new iPhone". I know I will input my existing Apple ID, and that my contacts, bookmarks, etc will all come from my gmail etc when I set that up again during the new setup.

However...now comes the question: Apps.
Do I need to go to the appstore and download all my apps all over again?
....or can I get them from iTunes from the 3s backups somehow?

....and what about saved data that is in those apps...how can I prevent the loss of that data....(ie note apps, etc)...I know I can offload them via email etc....but is there and easier way?

...another question: Will I have to go through my massive music library and "check" all the songs I want to go on the 5 all over again? Pain in the @ss! Anyway to get the music that was "checked" on the 3s to go over to the 5?

Thanks.

The apps are yours and you can install them on your new phone and any other iDevice you purchase in the future by simply clicking the 'apps' tab and selecting which apps to install on the phone. it really is that easy. You don't have to download them again (unless you are installing them from your iDevice), but if you happen to not have the application you previously purchased on your computer, you can download it again for free. The key with all of this is that you are using the one Apple account across all your devices to manage purchases, entitling you to download those apps to all of those devices.

THe difference is that not all the data your apps were using will be put on to your new phone. It really depends on how the developers made the app. Some of them rely on data stored on the device, others are a hybrid where they sync data on the device and data on their server(s). Others rely solely on data on the server. Just depends.

You'd have absolutely no problem restoring your music, contacts, notes, etc. The apps will be updated as they need to be. And even if you decide just to redownload the apps, they all will be free for you, since they are already all purchased.

Remember, you can always sync back only the stuff you'd like. I'll pretty much restore everything, what is not compatible will not be transferred by the iTunes.

Yes and yes....just go through your apps and see which ones can back themselves up online.

Last time I did I was able to resync and get all my info back from my gascubby app.

Somehow when I put iOS 6 on my 4 on Friday and decided it was now or never to start fresh...somehow the sync went bad and I lost all my data (which sucks, but no huge deal)

Yes there is an initial pain in the reinstalling everything when starting from scratch...its no different than when you do it on a computer. But once you get it done, its fine.

Hell, my camera app finally loads at a decent speed now...before it took FOREVER...lots of lost pic opportunities because of that.

Thanks. That's what I figured...that the apps were "connected" to the Apple ID, and not the idevice. ...and as for the data....it's what I figured as well..."app dependent".

I appreciate the info

My 3G just about died when I upgraded to the iPhone 4 OS (5.0?) so I'm not sure if I want to upgrade my 4S to 6.0.

You're not going to have a problem, 4s is so much stronger than the 3G.

Your thinking is flawed a bit... 4S is a nice fast processor which will actually benefit from the optimized iOS 6 (you can always restore back to 5.x if you will do the upgrade to iOS 6 before it is officially released, then you can just restore with iTunes OR if your phone is jailbroken, and your ssh blobs are saved...if you have no clue what I've just said, fuuugghetaboutit)

3G is a prehistoric device
