I just got my account activated an hour ago and was messing around for a little bit. That got that thing on lock down, they've disabled almost everything in group policy. I'm more interested in their setup that makes it work so well.

I've really been using my iPad a lot lately, it's my #2 device now ( nothing will ever replace my desktop
). When the first iPad came out I would go a week or two without using it but now I'm using this everyday.
I think its a combo of a few things, jump desktop app for remoting into my Windows and os x boxes, Facebook iPad app, improvements to safari in ios 5, along with the improved notifications, multitouch gestures, iMessage, and other things that make the iPad experience more enjoyable and more capable than it was at first

Though one thing that annoys me is when browsing a site if I hit the back button it sometimes loads an old version of the site. For example I was reading an article on The Verge and when I hit the back button it loaded a version of the main page that was 3 days old and I had to refresh to see the current articles on the main page. It seems to do this pretty often on some of the sites I read

Looks the same maybe slightly thicker due to bigger battery and new display.

Following an insider tip this morning that Apple’s iPad 3 could launch in the first week of March, analyst Erza Gottheil of Technology Business Research adds that a 7-inch version may arrive sometime later this year. Gottheil dismisses some other rumors surrounding the next-gen iPad, but affirms the smaller model, Siri integration, and a wireless keyboard-case accessory.

Be it against Jobs or not, they are in this to make money. And if they can own big display and small display. They'll do it.

That has always been the secret to their success, they've never been a money first company. They make well built products that they sell for a good price, they don't make an inferior product to hit a lower price point and make more money.

^^ How is a smaller ipad an inferior product

And how is a 7" iPad inferior? It's not, just smaller.
And I bet you that if Jobs was here for Christmas and now to see amazon.com's current TV ad. He say make the 7".

The only reason the Fire is selling well is because it's being sold at a loss, Apple isn't going to do that.
Skip to the 7:00 min mark and then 21:48

I think the 7in screen is inferior, I've spent a while using the Fire and I think if a person could afford it they should spring for the ipad instead

Everything seems to be hinting another March release for the iPad tres. I'm now watching used 32GB Wifi iPads selling on ebay, there's a used one going for over $500 right now with 50 bids! Not expecting that much but if I can get $450 including the Smart Cover, that'd be sweet!
Gazelle is offering me $280 for it, not going to go that route this time. I just got lucky last year and took their offer before their price plummeted a couple hours later.
I think the market for iPad 2 is going to get cheaper once Apple makes their announcement about a future announcement for the iPad 3. So I want to sell it before then.
Anyone interested on here interested in my 32GB iPad wifi w blue smart cover for $450 let me know via PM. I'm giving AZ and my FB friends first dibs before it goes on eBay.

I'm sure the iPad 2 price will drop.
There are rumors that apple will keep it as a lower cost iPad. Much like how they still have the 3GS free on contract and the 4 for $99.

I don't see that happening. That'd cut too much into the iPad 3 sales and profits. The phones are subsidized so Apple sells them to carriers for much more than then the carriers sell to customers. Apple still makes good money on the cheaper models and carriers sell them to you for cheap to lure you into a $2000+ contract.
If they sold the iPad 2 for $300 lots more of those would be sold than the iPad 3 and Apple wouldn't be making much profit of it since it's probably still $200 in parts alone. That'd only work if they iPad was subsidized to consumers but I don't think carriers are selling a lot of 2 yr. contracts with tablets.
This market is pretty much a one horse race right now. Android tablets are currently an also-ran, they were only successful in phones because they were on carriers that the iPhone wasn't and at cheaper prices but now their tablets aren't really any cheaper and the iPad is available everywhere and Honeycomb sucks, ICS is barely available and has few apps so they're failing. The Fire is bare bones product selling at a loss to lure people to spend money in the Amazon ecosystem, they're selling a lot but their profits are down 57% (not just because of the Fire) and are predicting to lose money this quarter! If Steve Jobs saw that I can guarantee you he'd make a 7'![Roll Eyes](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif)
Anyways what I'm getting at is there's no great competition right now like there is in the phone market and Apple doesn't need to sell the iPad 2 at a cheaper price except to clear stock for when the 3 comes out.
The only time they've sold old models along with new models is in the mobile market where there's subsidies. They don't sell last years iPods, Apple TVs, Macbooks or iMacs next to the new model, that's just another dumb rumor.

I don't see a smaller iPad for the same reasons we *have yet* to get a larger then 3.5" iPhone.
They picked what they thought is the ideal sizes for those particular devices and stuck with it.
Plus I'm sure you all watch the rumor sites often. I'm sure you have all seen the larger "retina" iPad imagery underneath the iOS 5 hood. I've yet to see ANYTHING that has a 7" size/resolution being gossiped about...
Plus the iPad sells like hotcakes. Why push something onto the market that likely has less of a profit margin and will take a bite out of your higher margin item? Simply to get people in the iEcosystem? Well look at how that is working out for Amazon...

Meanwhile, Apple stock value continues to grow, exceeding $500/share today. That's nearly double what it was just two years ago.
To put things into perspective, Apple stocks were trading at $6.56/share back in 2003. Wish I had bought 100 shares 9 years ago.

WSJ: Apple testing 8-inch iPad
http://www.engadget.com/2012/02/14/w...g-8-inch-ipad/
I think it's hilarious that news agencies throw out speculation in hopes that in the off chance they are correct, they can claim they knew what they were talking about. ![rofl](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/rofl.gif)
If this does happen, it will be surprising considering they've only needed to release one phone and one tablet to compete with competitors that have released multiple units to compete a la kindle, htc phones, etc.
The invites haven't even been sent out and yet the frenzied speculation about what Tim Cook will whip out on stage at next month's purported announcement has begun. The Wall Street Journal believes Cupertino's planning to produce a smaller, 8-inch slate to partner its 9.7-inch flagship. Unnamed sources at the company's suppliers say it'll pack a screen with a resolution close to the 1024 x 768 display on the current model. This jibes with what we've heard about the iPad 3 toting a Retina Display -- unless the smaller unit is aimed at budget buyers. The report claims test panels are being produced by AU Optronics and LG Display and that this model might also run on LTE. It's probably fair to point out that Apple is famous for producing prototypes in a wide variety of sizes that will never see the light of day, so don't get your hopes up too soon.
