Apple battery recall on Macbook Pro
Apple battery recall on Macbook Pro
Apple is issuing a worldwide recall of all 15" MacBook Pro batteries. This is a small PR and profit struggle for Apple. Notebooks are the flagship product for Apple right now, both in terms of brand appeal and sales. The cost of giving everyone who finds out about the recall a new battery eats into Apple's profit margins, and the black eye of admitting that they got past Apple quality control is a tough blow, as Apple prides itself on very good quality control.
Apple notes that the batteries do not pose a safety risk, and can still be used until replacements arrive

IMO I think it is very touch to prove because there has to be an element of collusion where the businesses are conspiring together to make a profit. Apple and Best Buy are not in this together to see how much money they can both extract from the customer. You're right, it's so hard to prove.
The battery recall? Hopefully there will be a bunch of gift cards given out to affected customers, some of those gift cards will end up on ebay at a discount...for me to buy.

FYI - The article linked by Tireguy says "all 15" Macbook Pro batteries." This contradicts Apple's own web site and every other article I've seen about the recall.
The 12-digit serial numbers for the affected batteries end with U7SA, U7SB or U7SC and were generally only sold in a specific time frame which I seem to recall ended somewhere around a couple of months ago.
