Anyone in the IT Industry?

Reason I ask is I was offered a position at a company that does IT Training courses. The company is Global Knowledge. Seems like a good job but I was just curious what the demand for their product is these days. Cisco Training, VMWare Training, ITIL Training, PMP Training, Microsoft Training, Global Knowledge

They definitely seem like a high turnover type company; but I expect that really with any large sales force. One of the managers I met with yesterday mentioned things have really slowed down the last 2 years (Was surprised he admitted that to me)

They are one of the better known outfits. My employer is willing to send me to training twice a year. Those courses are about $3-$5k a pop.

I never actually met an outside sales rep from one of these places and I rarely get cold called to take a class. I do get spam from them about once a month. I have no idea if being a sales rep for one of these joints is worth it. Do they want you to cold call or try to pop into offices and sell courses?

Go over to glassdoor and see if there are reviews.

cold call, 80-100 calls a day type environment which is fine with me. I'm in a desperate situation right now.

They wanted me to come in under contract for 3 months, convinced them to bring me in full time and give me full benefits right away which is a plus. But I know it's definitely a cut through environment.

few reviews on GlassDoor, but about what I expect from a inside workhorse sales job...most hated it, lol

I could see where it would be a difficult job. You first need to convince someone that they want training and then he would need to convince his boss to pay for it.

Maybe it's best to target managers instead of the techs?

well, every sales job i've had is convincing someone they need something....most the time convincing them what they have as a solution isn't as good as what I have. That's easy if it's legitimately a sell-able product.

That's basically what i'm asking here; is there a good demand for these classes.

IT Training schools are always in flux. Back in the early 2000's they were everywhere and courses were expensive, but companies were paying and there was a lot of kids getting loans because the industry wasn't flooded yet. In the mid 2000's they all started to go bankrupt because kids weren't paying their loans and the market got flooded (IT market in general). I would gather that any one that survived the 2000's should be ok. Its not an easy job though, and you will probably be commission.

IMO there is a demand for it, the hard part is getting the employer to pony up the money for it. It would be extremely difficult to get an individual to pony up this kind of cash without employer sponsorship.

Large companies have budgets for this kind of stuff. My exp. in the small business world is that they will only pay for training if they are implementing something new.

Decent company...Nearly all of my professional training has come from them (well, sorta...they bought out Nexient which was the former outfit that provided most of my courses). Well run as far as training goes...Good staff (at least from the account managers I deal with).

The thing with training is that it goes with the economy. And well, with it being pretty bad lately, most companies (smaller) will not invest in training as readily. So, it will be tougher to get customers...

That being said, give it a shot...and good luck, Scott.

Training discounts for Azine members?

As has already been said it is one of the better known outfits.

I don't know the training industry, but with more folks out of work I would think there is more folks 're-training', and likewise the staff that are still employed are being stretched further so there might be more getting additional training. But again, I don't know - that is just a guess.

Took the job, start Nov 1st

they wanted to bring me on based on a 3 month contract with only hourly pay (no commission) and benefits out of pocket. Convinced them to bring me on full term, base pay, commission, and full benefits for me and the wife

Congrats. If it doesn't work out, you'll certainly be able to build a network while you are teaching so finding your next gig should be easy.
