Anyone here VMWare Certified?

I can tell that VMWare is going to be the next big thing. How do I know? I just stepped up to the plate and bought 4CPU licenses of ESX server at work.

Anyway, has anyone here bothered to get the VMWare VCP? If so, has it opened any doors for you?

Nope

But I use it daily.

We have all our production servers for the lab on 2 machines with Vmotion and DRS.
Plus licenses for 50+ CPUs for ESX for the clients to request along with VMware Server.

As Wiskers said it really isn't that complex.

Someone must think its complicated because there is a 4 day course that is required before you are allowed to take the test. That's right, the course is a prerequisite to the test.

Really?

Its not exactly rocket science to figure out VM's. I use it simply because I like screwing around with OS's on rainy days.

VM's aren't hard, infact they are damd easy. But all the setup and administration for ESX Server is a little complex when you get into Vmotion and DRS, with backups and other performance tweaks.

Good I can complain to you.

It took EMC 3 and a half weeks to set up my new CX3-80. and the NAS head still isn't configured.
They sent the wrong cabinet for the Brocade 4800 and it took 3 weeks to straiten it out.

Didn't realize you could get certified either, but I have often used it to test mail/web/services servers. Also, for those drivers you just hate installing on your os since you know how much it will slow it (sony phone driver).

$$$$....Almost every business product has a training session and "certification"...I did one of these for KVS Enterprise Vault....Its basically a new word for course completion certificate.

Any updates to this thread?

My director is sending me to the VMware 3.5i Fast Track course next week- 5 days, 10 hours a day. Of course afterwords he expects me to go and take the VCP test.

I'm wondering how difficult it is compared to say MCSE, CCNP, et cetra.

From what I hear the technical aspects of this test are a pain in the ass, but the fast track course is a good prep for it. I have all the prep materials, but never took the class or the test

Yeah, and you have to take one of the 3 courses to be eligible to take the test. My director just put $6k on his credit card so I better pay attention
