Anyone have the new Outlook for your computer?

its getting annoying at work everytime that message shows up on my screen, asking if i wanna open my new mail or not. our old outlook program just had the envelope pop up at the bottom of the screen, which is what it does now, but a small box shows up asking to open or close ur new email.

does anyone know if their is a feature to turn that off, or am i stuck with this?

thanks

you can turn that off, go into the options menu, check the preferences tab and look under the email options, uncheck the box to turn off notifications. I am just going off the top of my head, i have 2003 at home, not at work here.

That is why I didn't install outlook from the software delivery catalog. I hate having the idiotic policies pushed down by the admins who don't have a clue of how I want it configured.

Can you switch to Thunderbird if the rest of the company is using Outlook? We are currently able to see each others schedules to shedule meetings when everyone is available. Would I loose that feature?

Thanks.

Yes, you would lose that feature.

Depending on how "tough" your corporate IT policy is, you may not be able to
switch to Thunderbird even if you're willing to take the hit on schedule sharing.

The corporate "standard" (where I work) is outlook, in part for schedule sharing.
Our IT department has been told to shutdown all POP3 service - all corporate
email may only be accessed through outlook.

Well, there is only four of us, and we are all the IT department, as well as the marketing department, HR department, operations department, etc, etc....so I'm not too worried about the corporate standard. If we all switched to Thunderbird, does Thunderbird offer this feature?

Because we all work from home and we can't always be reached, this feature is a necessity for us.
Thanks for the info!

I'm no expert on Thunderbird but there is a calendaring extension available. It
might give you the features you want. Check at:

http://www.mozilla.org/projects/calendar/index.html

It looks like you could share calendars, but there is definitely some overhead
involved (looks like setting-up a WebDav server, then importing/exporting your
local calendar to the WebDav server each time you modify it) Its not seamless
like Outlook.

Anyway, now you know as much as I do.

If you are your own IT department, then why is the ability to disable the pop-up grayed out?
