Anyone else besides Verizon doing broadband?

They finally rolled out broadband wireless (300-500k dl) in SoCal but the only pricing plan they have is $80/mo for unlimited use. Are any of the other providers going to roll out something similar any time soon? I'd hate to get locked into a contract at $80/mo and then 3 months later competition kicks in and brings the price down.

Verizon always rolls out everything before everyone else to say that they are first. Then everyone else follows shortly and Verizon quickly falls to the bottom. Verizon was first to 3G 1X, they beat Sprint to PTT, and now broadband which is EVDO. There is a pattern.

The answer to your question is YES.

First doesnt always mean the best

Verizon's PTT came out really fast, because they wanted to beat Sprint at there game, guess what, I heard its so messed up, they are gonna rebuild the structure, because they wanted to get there game out before others, not to say Sprint is any better, these 1st Generation PTT suck, compared to Nextels iDen PTT

Nextel is coming out with many new phones. They just came out with the Nextel i860, which is a camera phone and video phone. The picture quality is very satisfying. Soon they are coming out with the i930, which is a smart phone. For more information check the nextel threads under www.howardforums.com you would be amazed.

And oh yeah Motorola manufactures the phone :-P

EDIT: Nextel has the best walkie-talkie service compared to Sprint and Verizon...

But does your cable or wifi work anywhere? The whole point of cellular broadband is that you can use it anywhere w/o hunting around for a hotspot. 300-500k isn't exactly cable speed, but it beats the pants off dialup or the older ~80k wireless.

Nextel phones are a joke compared to other phones. They are mostly plastic with shitty resolution screens and cost way to much. Walkie talkie is almost useless now unless its for work. Verizon and Sprint both offer unlimited calling within networks, sprints is 5 dollars a month. And I would rather call someone than have that annoying bleep bleep going off every 5 minutes. Nextel's camera phone is only what 2 years late? I wouldnt be suprised if Verizon or Sprint swallowed up Nextel within the next couple years.

1. nextel sucks....great concept...but that is about it
2. PHones suck..they are just as big as analog phones, and they havent produced anything small since this year...
3. They avg 3 new phones every year...next to any other provider that is a pretty shitty ratio
4. they are pretty late to come into the game of video/camera phones...i thought vzw was bad...but nextel is worse..

howardforums is a good laugh because half the people on the board lie through their teeth..so dont use that as your only source..

Verizon and sprint..also have a better cellular network then nextel?? like i said nextel has a great walkie talkie...but they have a shitty phone..i rather have a good phone and a shitty walkie talkie...
