Any recommendations on a 19" or larger gaming LCD for PC?

My current 19" CRT monitor MAY be failing. So, if any of you have personal experience, give some recommendations on a 19" or larger LCD monitor that you also use for gaming (FPS, fast motion, etc.).

Generally speaking, CRTs are much better for gaming. Even the best LCDs today cannot match the high-end CRTs in games. However, if you're really intent on getting an LCD (for space or other reasons) check out a recent article in MaximumPC. They reviewed several LCDs and rated them for playability with a variety of games. Just go to their website and run a search. I don't remember if any of the LCDs were 19", but at least this will give you a good reference point.

I 2nd that. I got a Dell 2001FP about a month ago. Very satisfied. I paid about about $850 with tax to california. I'd say the best screen for the money. I was stuck between the Dell and the Samsung 213T, but I heard the Samsung has very slow startup time (like 18 seconds). The Dell starts up pretty much instantly. Anyways, look into it. Do a search for 2001FP reviews.

I have an 18" LCD from Dell -- the ultra sharp model. It is extremely slow to refresh, even in DVI mode. Video has obvious visual shortcomings on it. I do not recommend a Dell LCD monitor.

I also have a 16" LCD from Sony that has excellent image quality. You might want to check out the Sony line of monitors.

I have a 1901FP, marginal for gaming, but so nice in everything else. I could see some refresh problems in NFSUG, haven't played much else though.

Did you know that some Dell monitors are actually made by Sony and rebranded as Dell products?

I have the 2001 and it is a SUPERB monitor, you can play all the games you want without any issues, plus it can be wallmounted, rotates 90 degrees and has amazing picture quality. You should be able to snag one for about $7-800.

Yes, I did. But the fact is my Sony is 4 times better than the Dell -- and has zero problems showing video. I'm not sure if the size is the problem -- or if the line of the product is. My Sony was top of the line when I got it. The Dell is supposed to be the best, but it's clearly lacking. The dot pitch is too big and the refresh rate is too slow.

It really depends on the model.. the 1901FP has one of the best refresh rates out there..

If you're thinking of hooking up your PC to this thing, try taking a look at...

Thanks Junkster. I've been down that road before on my friend's Samsung DLP. I used the same techniques but I found out about it on the AV Science Forum

If you buy a set that was built after June 1st you'll have no problems. The bulbs do need to be replaced periodically but they were burning out sooner than quoted. Some people were only getting 2000 hours instead of the 8000 hours that Sony quotes. The bulbs are around $100. The DLP sets are the same.
