I think the G Pad 8.3 might be the winner.
Yeah, LG's UI is called Optimus UI which looks just like TouchWiz, but with different color palettes.

So I just picked up a brand new 32gb Nexus 7 for myself for $146 essentially by using ISIS.

Now I hate that Verizon blocks Google Wallet to make you use ISIS. And I originally said I wasn't going to support it. However, when they are throwing a lot of free money at you I tend to take advantage of those things.

Right now if you signup for Isis and create an American Express Serve card you get $50 for free. The Serve card is not a credit card and does not cause a hit on your credit score since it does not run a credit check. I called to make sure first as I did not want that happening. They are also giving you 20% cash back on your first $1000 in purchases before.

I plan to actually install the Nexus in my TSX so I can run DashCommand on it as well as use it for my music over bluetooth.

But unfortunately when if ever will Verizon give me that on my S4 since they don't want me to have it in the first place.

Good to know though. I look forward to being able to use it eventually since it pretty much supports all credit cards now.

So I've been handed an Asus Transformer that has Clockwork Recovery Mod on it.

It always boots into recovery mode, I tried doing a backup but it couldn't backup the .android_secure partition though other partitions were supposedly successful.

I wiped the drive and restored from a year old backup that CWR found, and it still only boots to recovery mode.

Seems like a software issue. How do I wipe all this shit off and put the ASUS approved android OS on there?

Few questions. Which model and what version of CWRM is it running?

The Tegra devices can be flashed back to full stock via APX mode and using NVFlash. I'm only familiar with the TF101 but I'm assuming the other Transformers can be reflashed using NVFlash. If you look up on XDA for the appropriate model you should see an all in one toolkit that will make flashing back to stock very easy.

Okay cool. Then follow the instructions on this site to go back to stock using APX Mode:

http://www.tabletroms.com/forums/tra...tools.htmlhtml

Note that Asus only updated the tablet officially to ICS. Since you already have CWMR installed I suggest you install KatKisss ROM which is running a fairly stable Jelly Bean 4.3.1 build. Its what I use on my TF101:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2392087

You need to download the ROM and the Gapps to the root of the internal or external card. Do a Factorey reset in CWMR then flash the ROM and then GApps WITHOUT rebooting. Reboot after GApps is flashed.

How do I get cwrm to read the sd card I inserted into the keyboard base? Or does it only read from the micro SD slot on the side of the tablet itself?

You'll need to install a custom recovery that has the capability like TWRP:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2434422

Needs to be flashed in recovery. You may be able to install it via the Goo Manager app but you need a working ROM with root:

I got a Fire HDX 8.9 for Christmas. It's a good size, and while I buy a crapton of stuff off of Amazon and I have Prime, I don't really use all the other stuff that much.

I like the hardware specs. I'll probably be watching a lot of movies (Netflix or off of my hard drive), and reading some books. But anyone know how limited Amazon's Appstore really is? As long as I can get my reddit news on it and watch streaming websites from the browser.

Should I just wait until the Nexus 10 2 (2014) gets released? I see speculation that it might not even be released, which is more worrisome.

ugh... now I'm thinking a 7" tablet would be nice to have, as I might be able to put it in my jacket or something. God my indecisiveness kills me.

Or I'll just go get an iPad Air... fuck. Seriously though, leaning towards the Google Play edition G Pad now that I read more about it. The weird bezels on the N7 bother me - I'm fickle about little crap like that.

Can anyone recommend good cheap 7" tablet for kid under age 10? Wifi only. I think the only key requirements are that it needs to be able to stream netflix and play simple games.

^^^ a great tablet is a baseball bat...

my nieces are here and they both have a Samsung 7" and they got it from Costco for $149 (was a while back and not sure how much it is now) but I like Samsung...

the way they are glued to that, I wont be getting my kids tablets...I would rather have them go out and play OR put something in the basement where they can just play and not be on their devices....

lol swoosh, true.

But if he wants to get a tablet for 100-200, then I'd recommend either the Kindle Fire, or last year's Nexus 7. If you want to spend a $29 more then you can get this year's Nexus 7 or the Kindle Fire HDX.

^^^ and the good thing about Kindle fire is you can set how much time they can play...so you dont have to tell them times up

but I agree, I feel the kindle is better than the Sammy 7 incher....

also have you looked at craigslist? I got the Nexus 7 (last years version, 16GB) for 100 bucks (and this was before the new version was released), so am sure you will be able to get a lightly used one for around the same price...

I put in the install zip on a micro sd card that my roommate uses in his Android phone (fat format) and it wouldn't read the micro sd card, didnt see it at all.

I just got the USB cable that connect to the connector at the bottom of the tablet in the hopes that I could get it to show up on my PC and I could copy the zip file to the internal storage and install, CWMR sees the internal storage. I can't seem to get it to mount, don't you normally have to put an android phone in a special USB mode to access it's storage? But since I can't get anything to boot, I don't seem able to do that.

Is there a way to do that without having a functioning OS and only CWRM?

I think this thing is bricked...

In CWRM if you go to advanced or storage menu there should be a mount USB option. With that said, you need ADB drivers installed on your machine. The other way is to do an ADB push a custom zip to sdcard which again requires ADB drivers installed.

I suggest you do the ABX Mode procedure as it reformats and installs stock everything. The device is not bricked. If it boots to recovery you're fine. You just need the right drivers and tools to do it. Search YouTube for instructions on how to adb push or do the abx mode route.

I don't see a mount USB option in those sections of cwrm or anywhere else and the adb drivers I found aren't working. I found one that windows recognizes as the correct driver for it but says the driver hash doesn't match and may be corrupt.

looking for a good solution:

Monthly, i get an email with a link to a magazine (free, not bought through play/amazon/etc). I can click on the link and read it, but I need to get to my email, click the link, and then I can only see that month's magazine.

Is there a program I can use to autofetch the new magazines, download them to my nexus7 for offline viewing and then keep the older ones so I can delete them on my own from local storage once I have read them?

Here is a link to the current magazine edition:

Do they make any "tablets" in the 4 to 5 inch screen size? Kind of like an iPod touch but with a larger screen that runs current (or close to it) version of android?

If its a continuous display on one page you can save it to pocket. Otherwise the only way would be if theres a way to save it as a pdf.

note going for around 100-175 depending on condition and accessories....
note 2 going for about 250-300
and note 3 was upwards of 450...

now if I remember right, note 1 had a 5.3" screen, note 2 was at 5.5" and note 3 has a 5.7" screen but the form factor stayed the same....I had the note 1 and am using the note 3 and both are the same size and note 3 is even slightly thinner

I find myself pondering the xperia Z2 tablet.
I like how it's extremely light - I can live with the lower resolution compared to the nexus 10. (bad eyes and all :/)

Since I have monster phones, I sort of feel like I need to go larger with the tablets. I hope there's a multi window ROM for it.

Yes there are.
The most popular would be the Sony Walkman and the Samsung Galaxy Player.
However, based on your other post, you might consider them too expensive as well being at least $100 and up.

I sold my xperia z tablet yesterday in plans to buy the Z2 tablet today. Thats the plan unless I see anything better. I thought the resolution is better on the Z2 then the Nexus 10? Samsung is offering £100 in Google Play credit for their Pro tablets, Ill look at the 8 and 10 inch ones as well. I loved the Z tablet, just wanted the latest and greatest, so the Z2 is the next step. Will let you know today.

Nope.
Z2 is 1920x1200 (264 dpi)
Nexus 10: 2560×1600 (299 dpi)

There is definitely a sweet spot in terms of resolution / battery life / performance. I honestly didn't notice that much difference, sharpness, in going from my Note 2 (260 dpi) to my Oppo N1 (373 dpi) so apparently my sweet spot is at/below 260.
