Oh I didn't say I was ordering it. After reading a bit more on the Pixel Watch, I've determined that it's a downgrade from my Garmin, so the $200 store credit is kinda worthless.

For those considering the 7Pro, Amazon is giving a $200 GC with purchase:

Agreed, I gave Fitbit waaaaay too many chances to get it right; after switching to Garmin I have no intention of switching back in the foreseeable future.

No initial impressions... since I can't open it yet. It's going to sit on my table for a few weeks. Although I note that I'm supposed to send in my old Pixel 5 trade in within 4 weeks I believe. So can't let it sit around too long.

Sorry, didn't provide context. It's a birthday gift for myself, and it's not my birthday yet.

But like I said, I may be forced to open it sooner if I'm to send the trade-in back in time by the deadline.

Finally opened the Pixel 7 Pro. Pretty good experience so far for half a day. Primarily got this for the camera. Above is a pic from this morning at x5 zoom. Much better than my Pixel 5.

I ordered the 7 Pro. The trade in for the 6 Pro went up too - from $480 to $550. Plus cash back and store credit through Google One, it made it worth it.

Thoughts on the Google I/O presentation? I don't see myself spending $1,800 for a phone Curious about the Android 14 changes though.

Not a fan of this folding phone trend. Not to mention they always get older camera hardware.

Well need something new so ordered the P8P in 256 and porcelain color. Got the free watch but they also offer the free buds. Getting $105 credit though so figure I will use that towards buds since I lost mine.

What about it are you worried about? I feel like Android and iOS have gotten so close to each other lately that it really doesn't matter anymore.

Apps on the iPhone are walled gardens from each other. The one specifically that I could not do as easily was the photo editing process I do on my phone before uploading to my webserver. Essentially it is 2-3 steps on Android per photo. The closest I could get the iPhone was 5. I had it for 10 days to test before having to return for the return period. I tried every app under the sun. Part of that was lack of third party apps to do what I wanted that covered multiple steps in one app on android that I had to do each in their own app on Apple. Other annoyances on just what picture files apps could see as well.

I have also despised the all settings in one place vs settings in my actual app that Apple does. For most people, it works. It just doesn't for me. Again they literally make the best phone hardware in my mind just don't like the software.

I'll gladly upgrade my work 6 Pro to the 8 Pro but it's such a small change from the 7 Pro that there's no way I'd spend my own money on it to replace my personal phone.

Same with the watch - I'm happy with my Fitbit for over $100 less.

Mine just arrived like an hour ago. Waiting on it to copy over the little bit of data I want it to but pretty much always start fresh.

Just a quick note but it is another major step forward in build quality at least compared to the P6P. It just feels more solid and with a little more heft. Not going to say it is on par with an iPhone but they are getting closer. Either way, I love the flat screen as compared to the curved ones. Big plus in my book.

What color did you get? I got the Bay. Doesn't really matter because I'll probably put it in a case soon.

I don't expect too much improvement over the Pixel 7 Pro, but I had quite a bit of Google credits that are expiring.

I have Google store credits. Because I have Google One, I get Google store reward credits every time I shop for something in the Google store. It's a good deal if you often shop in the Google ecosystem.

My Bay is shipping today so I'll get it early next week.

In the past, I'd never buy something like Bay as it's too fun looking and not "professional" looking. With WFH, I'm getting more adventurous.

I've had the Pixel 8 Pro for about 3 weeks now and the Pixel Watch 2 for about 2 weeks now.

Pixel 8 Pro: Coming from the Pixel 7 Pro, the improvements are very little. I do think the macro camera is better than the Pixel 7 Pro though. I do take quite a bit of macro, so that's a plus. Battery usage seems about the same, which is disappointing.

Pixel Watch 2: First "smart" watch that I've owned. I'm actually quite liking it. Lot's of useful features, and it looks much better than an Apple Watch. Battery usage seems poor though. I'm not sure it can last a whole day without a charge. Although I haven't tried anything to maximize battery usage yet.

Battery life on my P8P so far has been atrocious. I have the same apps I had on my P6P and I am getting worse battery life. I am about to open a support case regarding it cause it is so bad. I am typically dead after 6am-3/4PM unless I am on wifi all the time. Even then I only get around 4-5hrs of screen time and 1hr talk time and it is dead. I see people on Reddit getting 7-8hr screen time with 1hr call time which would be plenty. Hell I will take 6hrs but current battery life is probably the worst so far out of my P4P, P6P, and P8P.

The watch is the best smart watch I have used so far. Battery life I have only not made it once through the day so far. My only problem with it is that I love wearing my automatic watches so a smart watch just doesn't get much wrist time. For now it has replaced my G-Shock in my rotation basically.

Your experience on the P8P seems out of the ordinary. Hopefully you can get a replacement. My battery was draining very fast on the first week, but then I changes some settings and it's now acceptable. Heavy usage has always been a problem with Pixel. The good thing is that I'm 99% WFH, so I can always plug it in. But in those off days where I use it heavily, I'm always brining a power brick.

Yeah, I've basically double wristing now. Right wrist for Pixel watch, left wrist for actual watch. My favorite feature on the Pixel watch is Google Maps navigation when I'm walking in the city. Unfortunately, Maps drains battery quite a bit.

Come to Pixel world. Products work great, but suffer battery anxiety.

Interesting, I've never suffered battery anxiety on either of my Pixel's (P3XL and P6P), my current phone typically goes 2 to 3 days on a charge (with light to moderate usage). As the P6P is perfectly adequate for my needs, I'm in no hurry to upgrade; maybe when the time comes a P9P or P10P will get the nod.

It's those heavy usage days when I get worried. For instance, on my annual WDW trips, I'm almost into the red by noon time. Constant checking of the phone to check for ride statuses, taking photos and videos, etc. makes for a dangerous situation. It's in sharp contrast when I see my family (all using fruit devices) with no battery concerns.
