So... I'm visiting US (California) for the first time in over 3 years, I'm at the Google Play Store, I'm still only seeing apps for Canada... Before this phone, I never had this issue (this is a new phone since last visit). I'm just looking to download some fast food apps like McDonald's or Taco Bell so I can (hopefully) link it to a Canadian credit card
My locations permission is allowed, so I don't know why the phone still thinks I'm in Canada (I just tried using an app that only works in Canada, and I was able to use it)![Ponder](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/ponder.gif)

$1600 for a Sony phone nobody will buy in the US.
$1600 for a Sony phone nobody will buy in the US.
At $1599, it’s a steeply priced concept, too. To be sure, you’ll find plenty of premium specs on the device, starting with a 6.5-inch 4K (well, 1644 x 3840 but close enough) OLED with a 120Hz refresh rate. There’s also a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, IP68 waterproofing, 512GB of storage, 12GB of RAM, a 5000mAh battery, and even a headphone jack. But $1600 matches the most expensive variants of the iPhone 13 Pro Max and Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, both of which at least give you 1TB of storage for that kind of money. In any case, the Xperia 1 IV has something that neither Samsung or Google offers: that continuous optical zoom lens. Sure, plenty of smartphone cameras allow you to pinch and zoom, but that’s digital rather than optical zoom. At least right now, optical zoom generally produces better results than digital since it actually uses moving lenses to magnify your subject. Digital zoom is usually just cropping in on a wider image and relying on AI to try and recreate detail it wasn’t able to capture — more like an educated guess than the ground truth.
You might also have a telephoto lens on your smartphone, like the 3x lens (or 77mm equivalent, to use the film-era terms familiar to photographers) on the iPhone 13 Pro or the 10x (230mm equivalent) on the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra. They aren’t “zoom” lenses either, meaning they’re fixed and don’t allow you to move between focal lengths. The Xperia 1 IV’s telephoto lens is different because it does allow you to set the focal length at 85mm, 125mm, and anywhere in between.
For starters, it’s a very small zoom range: just 3.5–5.2x relative to the standard 24mm wide angle. Sony says it chose those focal lengths because they’re traditionally used for portraits, and, individually, they’re useful for that purpose. I’m just not sure how valuable the space between them is.

How to change your Google Play country
If you move to a new country you may want to change your Google Play country. Your Google Play country determines what content you see in the store. The apps, games, and other content in the Store can vary by country.
- You must wait 12 months after initially creating a payments profile before you can change your Play country. You can only change your Play country once per year. If you change your country, you won’t be able to change it back for one year.
- When you change your country, you won’t be able to use your Google Play balance that you have in your old country in your new country.
- You may lose access to some books, movies, TV shows, games, and apps.
- To change your country, you need to set up a new country in Google Play.
- To set up a new country, you must be in that country and have a payment method from the new country.
Change your Google Play country
- On your Android device, open the Google Play Store app Google Play.
- At the top right, tap the profile icon.
- Tap Settings and then General and then Account and device preferences and then Country and profiles.
- Tap the country where you want to add an account.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to add a payment method for that country.
Tip: Your profile can take up to 48 hours to update.

Meh, I'll just keep it as is... Because I'm able to use the Telus Optik tv app, it let's me watch live tv, I watched the entire Kings vs Oilers game last night on it, there will be lot of that on-the-go (NBA AND NHL playoffs). That's the app that normally doesn't allow me to use outside of Canada... which begs the question, why am I still able to use it outside Canada? All the directions you posted doesn't answer the question, it's just to be able to get apps from other countries, but I'm fine if it stays this way ![Shrug](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/shrug.gif)

Solana Mobile debuts Saga, a flagship Android phone for web3
Thursday, June 23, 2022
NEW YORK, June 23, 2022 /PRNewswire/ – Solana Mobile, a subsidiary of Solana Labs, introduced Saga, a flagship Android mobile phone with unique functionality and features tightly integrated with the Solana blockchain making it easy and secure to transact in web3 and manage digital assets, such as tokens and NFTs.
![](https://solana.com/_next/image?url=https%3A%2F%2Fsolana.ghost.io%2Fcontent%2Fimages%2F2022%2F06%2FSaga-Black.png&w=1080&q=75)
“Almost 7 billion people use smartphones around the world and more than 100 million people hold digital assets - and both of those numbers will continue to grow,” said Anatoly Yakovenko, co-founder of Solana, the world’s most performant blockchain. “Saga sets a new standard for the web3 experience on mobile.”
Saga was introduced at an event in New York today, which also included the introduction of the Solana Mobile Stack, a framework for Android allowing developers to create rich mobile experiences for wallets and apps on Solana and create a “Secure Element” for private key management (read more here). The Solana Mobile Stack SDK is available to developers now and Saga is available for pre-orders starting today, with delivery in early 2023.
“We chose the Saga name because the story of crypto is still being written,” said Raj Gokal, co-founder of Solana. “This is the next chapter of this narrative and we believe opening up crypto to mobile will lead to greater adoption, better understanding, and more opportunities.”
Saga is designed and manufactured by OSOM, a leading Android development company whose team has extensive experience building computing hardware for Google, Apple, and Intel, among others.
“Saga starts from first principles to create a mobile experience for individuals, developers, and ecosystem participants that opens a new era of mobility,” said Jason Keats, co-founder and CEO of OSOM. “The world needs novel hardware to embrace the future that is web3, and building out an ecosystem that looks to the future without being burdened by past legacy ecosystems is hugely exciting for us.”
Saga includes a 6.67" OLED display, 12 GB RAM, 512 GB storage, and the latest flagship Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 Mobile Platform, the security features of which will enable the Solana Mobile Stack’s Seed Vault. With the addition of a Secure Element built into the device, the Seed Vault keeps private keys, seed phrases and secrets separated from the application layer yet still capable of interacting with apps running on the device or in a mobile browser.
Pre-orders for Saga require a $100 fully refundable deposit, which will be applied to the anticipated final cost of $1,000, and will be prioritized for developers in order to test the Solana Mobile Stack and Saga. Those who pre-order may be eligible to receive a Saga Pass, an NFT accompanying the first wave of Saga devices and the first ticket to influencing the direction of the SMS platform.

Looks like 13 is rolling out today. Pixel subreddit so far so good. I might install tonight.

I installed yesterday. Maybe it's my imagination but the phone feels snappier, especially the fingerprint sensor.

That's what I've been reading. 12 was a fucking dud vs 13. I refused to update since February given all the bug reports. I updated all the 12 updates yesterday and I still can't get 13
You can enroll in the beta and get 13 ASAP, and then unenroll without having to reset the phone, but I'll wait.

12 really wasn't buggy for me. I typically grab the latest update anytime I can though, simply for the security patches.

I have it available on my 6 Pro now but have not installed. Have been following a couple reddit threads where people are reporting awful battery life after installing the update so this has made me hold off.

My battery had some drain issues for a few days but then it went back to normal.

I got it Sunday night. So far it's not a big change for my uses. The battery is a little worse. Spotify is my biggest drainer. Apparently many people that had big issues with 12 have been fixed for 13. It was as if 12 was the beta for a year.

Need some help here.
So i got my wife a new Oneplus 9 Pro and it is running Android 12. The android auto worked perfectly fine with her old 6t in her CX30 but the new one just keeps disconnecting and even the charging disconnects every 2 secs. It just keeps looping.
So far i have tried the followings and nothing worked:
Got a new google USB Cable
Turned on USB Debugging
Cleared AA Cache
Deleted all devices in her car and re-added.
Not sure what else i should try.

Test the phone in another car.

Good idea. Probably need to find a car to test since mine is only wireless. Wired is not even an option.
On a non-related note, Just something i finally figured out on Android 12: Since 11 didnt have Wifi Assistant and 12 does, by default in 12, the carrier signal does not automatically take over when the Wifi is weak. It caused a lot of wireless Android auto issue for me.
You will have to go in to the Wifi setting - wifi assistant - and turn on the auto switch on your own when you have the 12 installed.

Did the update finally over this past weekend. I have not noticed any battery issues or improvements though. Pretty much the same. Definitely better finger print speed for sure.

Does anyone know if there is a way to perhaps make every incoming call go straight to voicemail? I'm sick and tired of these spammers and scammers, literally at least 90% of the time when my phone rings, it's one of them. The other 10%would be my sister or mom. Everyone else in my life, we're on either WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger 😒

Update: after tried EVERYTHING.... it just seems the Mazda's wired AA only supports older phones. Tried 3 different new phones and none of them works on a consistent basis.
Solution: Motorola MA1 wireless Adapter. At close to $100, it is kinda expensive. But strongly recommended even if your wired AA works.
Takes about 1 min to setup and works great! and you probably just extended your charging port's life by not keep pluging in and out.

Thinking about the Pixel 7 Pro. My Pixel 5 is still working fine, but I think I need something with a better camera.
Team Owner
Read that the 7 screen brightness is going to be super powerful which helps with HDR since it's OLED.

Seems like a pretty low key incremental upgrade. Probably not worth doing if you already have a P6/P6Pro. Will wait for the 8 and see what happens. I've also been toying with switching to an iPhone next...which is not something I ever thought I'd say.

only downside is if I am actually expecting a call from a “unknown” number. For those times I just turn it off until I get that call.
oh and it’s pretty funny to see those blatantly obvious spam callers attempt to call me like 5 to even 10x within like 20 seconds. Nothing a real human could ever do.

I won't be "upgrading". It's such a small change. The camera is marginally better (from a hardware standpoint).
I do like the Hazel color combo though.

Looking on Google Store vs T-Mobile (my carrier) for the Pixel 7 Pro. For the Google Store, they are offering $400 for the trade-in of my Google 5. Whereas T-Mobile is offering only $300. Is typical, where Google offers a better deal?

It is important to note that the term “unknown” on Android is not meant for the numbers that are not saved in your contacts. This is in contrast with that of the iPhone, and is meant specifically for calls that surface on you caller ID as ‘private' or ‘unknown'.
yea the silence/block unknown callers is completely different than the DND mode. You’ll get all your normal notifications just anyone “unknown” to your phone will either get rejected or sent straight to voicemail.
How to block unknown numbers on Android phone from Samsung
Below are the steps you can take to block unknown numbers on a Samsung Android phone.
Below are the steps you can take to block unknown numbers on a Samsung Android phone.
- Open the Phone app.
- Tap the three-dot menu and then select Settings.
- Now, tap Block numbers.
- Hit Block unknown/ hidden numbers to block private and unknown numbers on your phone.

Get it from Google... not only Tmobile offers less, they will also charge you $30 for some BS service fee when you get the phone from them...
The ones from Tmobile are also locked right? (until you pay it off completely)

$899, 4% back via Rakuten, 3% back via Google One discount, 2% back via credit card + 6% sales tax - $480 trade in. All in would be right around $192 for the new 7 Pro. It's not terrible.

Meh. Spend the $200 on a nice dinner. The memories and experience will be better than a marginally better phone that you probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference with.
