Thanks. Somewhat enticing, but I think I'll pass for now. My 3GB plan is $60 from Tmo. To change to the unlimited One plan would be an extra $10/month. The subsidy of $13/month would be pretty much a wash. I guess this would make sense if I really wanted the Pixel right now.

Please solve this mystery for me. My mom upgraded her phone from S4 to S7, and when she texts me (SMS) it says delivered on her end, but I do not get any messages to my Note 4 from her. I checked my Note 4, she is not blocked.... WTF?! Everyone else she txts gets it.

The main thing is, large phones have basically reached their limit in terms of length.
Length determines pocketability, or at least ability to bend your leg when its in your front pocket.

I've thought for years how you could fit a larger screen on these phones by losing some top/bottom bezel, and making a wider phone.
I ever though it would finally happen in age of 'narrower/thinner/lighter'. (which I'm also not a fan of).
I'll probably have to get one, just to kind of 'support the cause', much like I did the original galaxy note.

Nice Find! Family of 4 phones that would be a no brainer if you were planning on upgrading to the pixel.

I still can't find a better deal than the $30/month 5GB LTE prepaid plan that we have(Using google voice so I don't care about the crap phone number they give me). It only comes with 100 min of talk, we have never gone over because we text more than anything else. If we need to make a call there are plenty of VOIP type apps(google hangouts etc) that uses your data only and not your minutes.

I'm loving the new Android 7. One of the best OS updates yet....

switch back and fourth, defaulting textra, then default stock app.
basically turn it on and off
then restart?
or maybe clear cache??

Apparently nothing I'll do will work as Textra does not support the new Advanced Messaging from ATT...so I need to disable it on my mom's phone, or stop using Textra.

That's a shame. Textra is one thing I really miss from Android, but I would always occasionally have issues sending and receiving texts no matter which device I used.

Agree. I pay $100/ for my wife and I 10GB data stash plan. We never come close to using all of our data. I cannot justify the extra cost since we don't need the data. Also, the Pixel doesn't seem like enough of an upgrade over my 6P for the price.

I'm sure there'll be deals on the Pixels come end of year.

1. has made my phone battery die faster... not sure why... could be my settings...could be 7.0

3. has made print on my screen harder to see... NO, I am not just old and blind.

I'm fully happy with the Moto Nexus 6 to 7.0 after a week or so, but my phone sits in a wireless charger all day so I didn't notice battery life. I thought about going beta and getting the 7.1 but I really don't like doing that. Do you have battery saver on? Not sure if you can go back and still retain your current settings/apps. I know you can go to https://developers.google.com/android/images and take it back all the way to Android 5.0 if you wanted but it will wipe everything.. But if you are going to try that I might try a fresh install of 7.0 and see if that is any better than your current update to 7.0.

You basically need to turn off Advanced Messaging on your phone according to stupid Textra support:
Check in your stock app by long holding on a message bubble (that was missing in Textra) and select Show Details, if it says "Advanced Message" or "Chat" then this is a T-Mobile / AT&T advanced message (called RCS), it's not an SMS or MMS message.

That's the issue, although really it's a half baked Android implementation if you can receive messages in an inactive app (stock) and not get any notifications, right! <--Blaming TEXTRA shortcomings on someone else....

AT&T: You can disable RCS messages to you in your stock Messages app under Settings > Advanced Messaging > Use Advanced Messaging = OFF

T-Mobile: On some phones, you can disable RCS messages to you in your stock Messages app under Settings > Enhanced messaging = OFF. If this setting is not appearing, do the following:
  1. From any Home screen, tap Phone.
  2. Tap the MORE icon.
  3. Tap Settings.
  4. Tap Voice over LTE settings.
  5. Select "Do not use VoLTE"
Confirm if that fixes it please and report back so we can help others.

I tried doing that. You have to turn back on stock messaging (I have ATT) to edit the advanced messaging. But when I switched back to Textra and checked the stock app, the stock app shows the box checked again for the advanced messaging. I'll check when I see my friend again.

it's fine for me. I think Marshmallow was the one that brought on the candy like and bubbly font and icons

but i can see how one would think it's childish, as I still believe if you type up a report in comic sans, you'll be ridiculed.

I really need a new phone. My S6 Edge+ has a dead pixel and i can't stop staring at it.

Also since the last update (6.0.1), my normal group text MMS is so slow that it gives me the "messenger has stopped working" every time i send a group text.

I think this worked. One of my friends had a Note 4 but I'm not sure if he ever upgraded and his texts were going to the stock app. Last night he texted me and it went to Textra.

cool...might try that... never know... I used to root and flash my EVO all the time....LOL
I really don't mind wiping everything because I just changed everything so 90% of my data is already saved on my laptop and the rest is on my wife's phone since we are both signed into each others phones all the time...

I got my Aoson 7" phablet yesterday... will pickup a sim card for it this weekend and let yall know what i think..
Once I did the research I picked this one because the company has legit ties to alot of what we already use... the Chinese are busting out with all of this new stuff that has been there for a while... I did alot of research on large TV screens and found that most of the ones in our home are sourced from manufactures in China but shipped to different countries and combined with the electronics that equal our TV sets... I emailed and still get emails and promotions from Chinese sales reps.

I paid 65 bucks (shipping included) on Amazon for this:
  • 7 inch Android Tablet PC,3G PHABLET---running with android 4.4 operate system, MTK6582 Quad Core processer ,1.3GHz frequency, let you play more stable and faster. Built-in Standard SIM card-slot, it support topspeed WCDMA and 3G surf on-line, to have the amazing experience of free surfing.Compatible with GSM 850/900/1800/1900 WCDMA 900/2100 Mhz card, please confirm your card frequency before you purchase
  • IPS TOUCH SCREEN, Small Size, Light-weight Tablet--- IPS 1280x800 bright touch screen, thinner, ultra slim and energy saving display, provide you better experience for self timer, video chat, gaming, skype HD video call and sharing images via social networks
  • Wi-Fi Bluetooth TABLET PC --- connect with widespread Wi-Fi left home to work where you may feel comfortable. Connect 2.4GhzWi-Fi with no problem. Bluetooth 4.0 let you be able to connect Bluetooth keyboard, headphones, speakers. Equipped with Google Play, Play Store where you are able to get different types of apps or programs. Netflix, Skype ,Facebook ,Twitter, YouTube and plenty of apps. Operate easily, runs nicely
  • 1GB of RAM, 8GB of STORAGE,3G Tablet Phone with GPS --- compatible with 32GB Micro SD card, let you enjoy ultra-fast surfing online, video playing and 3D gaming experience. Additionally, support GPS, Compatible with Apps like Google Maps, is sufficient to provide positioning

I totally understand that... guess that why I wanted to try a cheapo phablet... since I know that Amazon is full of Chinese made / affordable AND expensive phones... do some research and you might find something you really like and it can fill the gap with just a change of the sim card... I know my Aoson device is super cool and fast... I was car shopping using it over the weekend using the house wifi... I haven't gone to TM store yet... so i don't have a sim in it yet... YET... LOL

yeah, me too at first, but when I used it I was like...hey I have my 7.0 Nexus 6 ( and I still think 6.0 was better for my Nexus) right here and I was not messed up about it...I am also not above trying to Root the lil machine if I get too bored with it... for me, battery power and speed are the main things that interest me... the Aoson is nice because it is pure 4.4, like a Nexus with nothing at all built in... so it runs super fast and the battery has been excellent so far... will keep you posted once we get a sim card into it.

where's the APP thread?

google just released this awesome photo scan app that uses AI to scan your old photographs.
https://www.google.com/photos/scan/

pretty neat, as I used it last night to scan a couple of my baby photos.

^Yes I heard about that. I gotta go by my mom's house

Had to reset my Note 4 again. Been about a year so it was due as these Samsungs tend to degrade after about a year. My wifi wouldn't turn on and it would flash on/off killing my battery. Plus some apps mysteriously logged me off so I'm guessing memory leak somewhere. I even deleted the cache which tends to help. Phone destruction imminent.

Just installed it and tried a few, works pretty well! We have 1000's of old photos to scan, this will save us a lot of time. Thanks for posting Justin

WOW...hate that it is breaking down! Wife had a Note 3 that lasted forever, but she is not a "power" user either, so she probably doesn't push a phone to its limits like alot of us do...It sat around for a long while after she got her note 5...then we actually reset it and my Mom is using it now...( she is 75 so it might be "misused"..LOL) ... I have found that the Sammy phones seem to become more unstable and have more trouble with the battery life depending on a couple things:

1. after upgrading the OS
2. after a specific combo of apps are in place
3. after specific APP upgrades

...and the main problem is... seems like once the damage is done, it is very, very hard to undo!

Anyone else have the same problems?

^Yes sir. 6.0.1 destroyed my battery. When I had 4.X back in the day it lasted forever. Granted new battery but still. And yeah, apps CAN fuck shit up.

So my Pixel XL finally arrived yesterday. So far haven't had much time to use it but the battery is already amazing. Got 20hrs with 4hrs screen time on the first charge and I have heard it will only get better from reading about it. The Pixel launcher swipe up will take a few days to adjust to and so far I am not a fan of the Pixel in call screen or the screen for accepting in coming calls. Other than that I really like it. More coming once I have used it for a while.

Ugh. The swipe up for apps is still annoying. After so many years of clicking the center button to launch the app screen, now I keep launching the shortcut that's there.

I've had my lil' Pixel for just over a month now. Getting a cheapy plastic case for it has done wonders. It was too thin and slick to be able to use comfortably. Beefing it up just a little bit and adding some texture has really helped in usability.

Camera is really nice.

I received my MI MIX. I'm pretty happy with it. It's pretty snappy and a pocketable huge screen is useful.
The camera is not good but I don't care - I almost never use cell phone cameras anyway.

MIUI, however, can kiss my ****.
The "battery saving" stuff kills off background apps ruthlessly, and I had to shut off
things left and right just to get gmails and wechat messages pushed through. I'm talking
like 5 different OS settings, and four toggles for EACH app.
That's just STUPID. It should be ONE toggle for each app, i.e. "leave this app alone".

It also doesn't help that it's a china only phone - getting the google framework in there has been
a bit tricky (although that's partially my fault since I couldn't read the (chinese) install
instructions).

Setup frustrations aside though, it's fun.
