My wife has gone through many calendar widgets/apps. Jorte was ok for her but a massive bitch to set up and sync. That broke with 4.1 also.
Report back if you find a good one.

I used to use Android Pro Widgets:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...2V0cy5jb3JlIl0.

Very customizable with themes. Pure Calendar Widget is pretty good as well:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...ign%3Dbloglink

Now, I just use the Google Calendar Widget.

Do you risk putting anything on cloud storage you don't want others to possibly see though? I mean how secure is it really?

Even easier than moving an sd card is having dropbox or similar. You can move a file into dropbox on one device and then pull it back down on the other one. leaving it in dropbox would allow you to modify it and keep it synced for either device's use. Much simpler than moving the sd card.

Having hardware that supports the sd card is nice. The cloud should only be a tool to help with excess storage needs and sync of files in my opinion. I miss having an sd card on the nexus 4. I'm lucky enough to have an unlimited data plan and a live in an area with decent coverage, but for those who don't an sd card is the only viable option.

dropbox ToS state your data is your data. Box is the same I think. Google, not so much.

Security will be up to the company that you're using. They all seem to have good records so far but I still wouldn't upload anything too confidential up there. You could always create your own FTP server and do it that way.

I think with Google, its yours up until you share it onto G+. And its a much more lenient policy than Facebook's. As far as the Instant Upload works, Google has no idea what's inside that Private folder until you decide to share it.

Is there any method to save the battery life as much as possible?

Any app to run in the background?

There are battery saver apps, but I think newer versions of android since ICS have made any type of task killer apps counter productive.

To save battery you need to think more in terms of what not to run. Lower screen brightness, turn on/off wifi and bluetooth selectively, tell facebook (or similar) and news feeds to not update every 15 minutes...

Avoid those battery saver apps and task killers. They mess up your whole experience and don't really save that much battery unless you have it turn off data all the way. The best way to save battery is to turn off Mobile Data and Data Sync manually. Its not ideal but if battery saving is what you want, that's just how it is. If you must have data and sync, go to 2G/WiFi then 3G/H+ and avoid 4G/LTE. If you stick to 2G/WiFi, your data will be available but battery will be hit less. Lower down brightness, turn off bluetooth when you're not using it. There are ways to automate all the above with NFC tags, Tasker and other apps in the Play Store. Also, if you have root and a kernel that supports it, underclocking will help greatly. I underclock my Nexus to 700 MHz when I'm using it as a Navi and it saves a lot of battery while still being usable in the car (streaming music while doing navi).

I used to use Jorte before, but then moved to Biz Calendar Pro because it was a lot better managing different calendars, but now that I'm on 4.2.1, BizCal doesn't work as awesome anymore. I'm not a huge fan of the Google widget because it doesn't show future events/agendas unless it is coming up really soon.

I just got Pure Calendar (month & agenda) Widgets and will try them out..... Might have to end up using multiple calendar apps just to get the right feel

you know what this phone is missing. Group messaging in the native messaging client. I saw how the iphones work recently. So much better than ours.

^4.2+ and CM10 has it built in with the stock messaging app. As far as videos and pictures in group messaging is concerned, I'm not sure how it works as I don't really use Group messaging.

okk i dont know about 4.2.

But say for instance, i want to send a group text to 3 people. Whenever either of those people respond to the group message, it goes in its own thread. But if you have iphones, it will stay in a group message and all the responses are in one thread.

So I have been thinking more about the N4, and I dont think 16gb will be enough for me. I will be just barely maxing out the 16gb, leaving no room for extra things like videos for trips or random files I might need to transfer from other people. I want a 32gb but if they do come out with it, it looks like it won't be for a few months.

you take that big files with you around??? 16 is enough for me I think. The only thing to be concerned about is pictures/videos really. I had 16 on my NS and I pretty much maxed it. But being rooted and doing frequent ROMing does add a lot of space. I didnt have many long videos. But i had over 400 pics and some videos in there, none over a couple minutes. 2gb of music and then apps for the most part.

My titanium backup had about 1gb of data and then my whole phone backups which I had a couple probably accounted for the rest of the space I had left. So i think its good??

ohh i also had zip files for 1 or 2 ROMs on my phone so that would usually be over a GB as well.

I'll add it really is up to the user. Look at your current phone, see how much you are using. I know some people will easily max out the 16gb so yea... just be sure haha.

Question, so I rooted my dads Note 2 and he told me the other day he wants to go back to stock for now cause its a ltl unstable and reboots occasionally, I guess on certain actions.

Anyway. Is it possible to get a stock ROM that can get OTA updates from Samsung, whenever they release them??

I'm not entirely clear with the question. Are you talking about full stock as in TouchWiz no root, or stock TouchWiz with root? The answer to both in short is yes. You can flash back to stock using ODIN:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1969551

That should unroot the phone, bring it back to its factory state along with the recovery. Now if you wanted to root the above ROM, you would need a custom recovery to flash the SuperUser.zip. The phone will most likely receive OTA updates but it wouldn't be a good idea to straight up flash them while you're rooted. The best thing to do would be to unroot the phone or use an app like OTA Root Keeper to temporarily remove root and then reroot it after the update.

If its deodexed you will not get the OTA or if you do it will fail to flash. You can flash the stock ODIN and then manually root it. OTAs will still come in but you will need to unroot temporarily just to be on the safe side. It'll probably flash fine but its a precaution.

Music, nandroid backups, and rom zips are the biggest things on there now. Maybe 1gb or less of pictures.

I like to keep a few backups along with a few past rom zips just in case. I also want to be able to put the occasional movie/tv show on there for car trips. I might just get a nexus 7/new laptop though for media on trips.

Why are people so crazy about Vice City on their phones? Did they not play them when those games actually came out?

I played GTA for a little bit when it came out. Not really my type of gaming. Have you seen the mods for GTA on Android:

http://www.droidgamers.com/index.php...heats-and-more

http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1401932

I'm guessing they'll probably do the same for Vice City. The same PC mods seem to work on the Android version so it'll probably be the same for Vice City.

Oh also, if you're rooted, you can use a Sixaxis to control games:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...250cm9sbGVyIl0.

If your phone supports USB OTG, you can use a XBox controller and map it with USB Joystick Center:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...zgudXNiam95Il0.

^You can probably use the above to map a Wiimote controller as well and connect that via Bluetooth.

How is everyone liking Swiftkey Flow so far? I've been having a hard time adjusting to it coming from Swype Beta. It always auto corrects to the wrong word and it doesn't give you any other options until it already inserts it... Also, how the heck are you supposed to swipe double letters??

On my 7 I went back to the 4.2 Keyboard. Didn't like how it doesn't have prediction on the places where the dictionary doesn't work like the browser url and other places. I use the 7 mainly to browse the web so it became annoying. Hopefully its just for the beta. On my Galaxy Nexus, I still have it on there because I use it mainly to text and so all of my phrases are already there. I just have to tap and choose my phrases. Lol. As a tip on the word picking, if you do a quick backspace after it gives a wrong prediction, it'll give you the possible corrections. The main annoying thing is training the keyboard as to which words I meant to type but once its in the database, it becomes second nature. Its one of those products that you have to keep using and it gets better and better at predicting. The catch is to keep using it until that time comes.

while you guys are on the topic of messaging, what texting app do you guys use?

My phone has had problems downloading MMS messages for the longest time, I've tried the stock app and Go SMS and they both have the same problem. I've tried disabling then downloading and then re-enabling auto retrieve, restarting my phone, same thing. If I tell people to resend it, it works, but...

Apparently this is only a Sprint/Verizon thing?

I use stock GS3 one. I've always used stock. I think its more the problem of your carrier or service rather than the phone its self. I think.

Stock as well. Which ROM and Android version are you using? I know stock AOSP 4.1 and CM10 had some issues with MMS auto-retrieving. Its fixed in Android 4.2 as Google added an auto-retrieve setting inside of the SMS app that actually works instead of hit or miss like it was in 4.1. In my case I had to manually turn off WiFi to send/receive MMS. Its fixed in 4.2 though. Changing your default SMS app won't help because it still utilizes the stock SMS to send/retrieve messages. CM10 also fixed it in recent builds.

Notably MMS auto retrieve is not being forward ported as Google fixed that themselves. As stated above, patches will hit gerrit review after this staging process is completed.

Its pretty good. I didnt like 4.2 keyboard on mine, cause it wasnt working that well. There was no dictionary for some reason, and it wouldnt autocorrect simple mistakes. But flow is pretty good. For some reason it randomly stopped working in my browser. THe flow part.

Also for double letters you just go as if it is a single letter and the keyboard will figure it out. 4.2 is the same way. But the keyboard is pretty good. Some mistakes here and there. Wasnt as good as 4.2 on my NS. But its still good. And if i ever decide to not use the flow, the regular keyboard is just as good as swiftkey3 so its still a good normal keyboard/

I'm liking it... it's been working out great for me, but there was one site... can't remember what it was, maybe a forum, I couldn't type in it

when it keeps autocorrecting the word before you press space, the suggestion on the left will always be what you are typing. So just click there if it keeeps correcting it

I've always used the stock Messaging app. Tried GoSMS once, and went back to stock. I didn't need all the hoopla that came with GoSMS.

speedemon, it's only been a little more than a week since I got it. Gonna wait a bit more before doing any review (especially with 4.2.2 coming out now). But so far: Impressive.

I've been a user of SwiftKey since the beginning and while Flow is nice and cool with colors, I still prefer it without Flow. Maybe it's because that's how I'm used to typing already. I tried out 4.2 keyboard for a while, but the predictions just cannot compare.
