Android Gmail App Issue - Solution?

I have been frustrated by an issue with the Gmail app on Android for a long time, but have not found a good solution.

Hoping one of you may have solved this already and can offer some advise.

I use gmail (have free and paid accounts) and therefore have the Gmail app on my Pixel.

On one of my Gmail accounts, I have a tremendous number of labels (in outlook client on my desktop they are folders). There is a top level label/folder with the year, and sub folders with each of the projects I work on that year. Herein lies the issue. On my desktop in outlook, I can collapse 2018, 2019 and 2020 and only see the sub-folders for 2021, which is what I generally need. If I need to access something from 2018, I can open 2018 and find the correct subfolder.

The problem is that the Gmail app on Android does not see the heirarchy as nesting (even if you designate a label as "nested") and therefore in the Gmail app I have to scroll through literally hundreds of folders/labels to get to the bottom of the list.

I don't believe that there is any way to make the Gmail app work the way I want it to, nesting the subfolders in a collapsible/expandable structure.

I looked at the Outlook app and it, too does not allow for nested subfolders in email to be collapsed 9it shows them as indented, but that's it).

Does anyone have any recommendations for other apps that can accomplish this feature on a GMail account?
