The rumor mill has the iPhone 13 will be portless.

So how will we, and millions of other drivers, deal with Car Play? Must we invest a ton of bucks to establish wireless carplay?

Our iPhone 7 and 8 are still going strong, but there are yuuuge deals on the 12, which tells me the 13 will be a major change.

 

That's the problem with most car tech. It's difficult or impossible to upgrade.

 

I don't believe the portless rumors at all. Charging a phone wirelessly is significantly less efficient than wired, and slower. providing technical support, manual firmware updates, DFU mode, integrating with 3rd party devices etc will be worse. I don't see any benefit to going only wireless. Sure increase wireless capability but that's supplement wired capability.

Your point is a great logical reason why going portless won't happen, it just makes no fucking sense.
