Acer Laptop $348

Is anyone going to get in on this deal @ Wal-Mart on Friday morning? I know it's basically slow junk, but for basic computing and no gaming, this will be fine for me for that price.

Not bad for the price, but Black Friday at Wal Mart may not be worth the $100.00 savings.

The specs:
Model AS5315-2153
Acer Aspire Celeron 530 (one of the new ones based on Core 2 Duo architecture - this isn't a clearance laptop!)
80 GB HD
7.0 lbs. (specs I got elsewhere say it's 2.8 kg, so not 7 lbs but a little over 6 lbs.)
15.4" WXGA widescreen
802.11b/g Wireless
1024 MB DDR2 RAM
DVD/CD combo drive
Windows Vista Basic
3 USB ports
From what I can find it's a 960GML Chipset with Integrated Intel X3100 GMA graphics

No, it's not a Black Friday deal, it's a THIS Friday deal... no waiting in excruciatingly long lines. Each Friday from now till BF Wal-Mart is having "secret sales" that will be posted on the Website the Thursday before. They started this one early on the website just to drum up some hype.

FWIW, I called my local Wal-Mart and they have 50 of these in stock for the sale. Most Wal-Marts have been issued at least 30. I'll have mine and be in the checkout line at 8:00 AM. I'm guessing all the employees know about this special, so they may go fast.

For $350 I don't see anything wrong with this purchase. I honestly wouldn't wait till black friday. I waited last year with my Dad, and by the time we got into office depot all the laptops were sold out. Luckily we were just buying 2 monitors, so it didn't affect us.

That's been my issue with all the great BF deals; sold out before you can even spy them. For an everyday, run-of-the-mill laptop just for web surfing and emailing, this will work fine for my needs.

I just tried to call 3 local stores and none of them even knew about the specials. In general, how many units do people think they will have in each store? Both of the laptop and the DVD player.

My local Wal-Mart had 50 of the laptops. Most stores are reporting 30 - 50. For the DVD player, I think 30 is the norm. Most stores are playing dumb. They don't have these things on the shelf; they're in the back waiting for tomorrow's sale.

Thanks for the info.

If the sale starts at 8, I wonder what time they'll put them on the shelves, if at all. Maybe you'll have to ask for them from the back?

My store opens at 6:00 AM. I'll be there when they open and go right to electronics and ask for them if I don't see them immediately.

That's a good plan, I think I'll be doing that as well. I'm guessing there will be a limit of 1 on each item, do you know if that is indeed the case?
