Academic software for personal use?

I found some software I wanted on ebay, and the only auctions I can find are for the academic pack--software is exactly the same, but it's intended for sale to students or teachers.

Anyone ever bought these before? Was there any hassle to provide proof that you're a student?

I have purchased from Adobe and Apple, had to fax copy of student ID or transcript before they would process order. Not sure how it would be via third party with ebay. Hell they might not even care.

I'm running an EDU version of Cubase. Didn't need to show anything to the seller and it registered just fine.

It depends software to software.
Adobe doesn't care what you do with it's products, and you can (and I have) gotten the 'regular' upgrades for the academic versions.

It wouldn't surprise me if some academic licenses didn't allow commercial use. But personal use? I would bet that it's fine.

But everything you print will say "For educational Purposes Only".

Yeah, the software I'm trying to buy, your choices are to either get the academic edition for the one program, or pay $500 for the whole bundle with a few other programs. I guess that's how they get you....

Only thing I'm worried about is if I'll have trouble registering it. Aside from having to prove you were a student upon ordering, did any of you have to do so when registering?
