3d animating software

Does anyone know of a good 3D animating software i can get a hold of? Im trying to make three spinning diamonds for a web site and cant find a program ive tried 3D max but i cant get it to animate i can only make the diamonds and after some frustration gave up on it and uninsatlled it, any idea?

swift3d is another, however that is primarily for exporting to flash. but it does handle to other formats.

Maya is the way to go, but it is expensive. I have it..umm..legally, and it is a very large file as well. It isn't very easy to use though.

I'm pretty sure you can download the Personal Learning Edition (education version) of Maya for free. I have no idea of how it's crippled or what kind of registration is required but it may be worth checking out.

I believe this version just leaves watermarks on your rendered images...
