two completely different types of competition.

im not saying they didnt earn it, i was stating that it defeats the purpose of nations pitted against one another in competition and the excitement of a final match if one country is competing against itself.

even when track is 90% USA and Brazil, it virtually impossible for either country to fill the entire field of the finals... so there is still competition amongst more than one nation...

fuck.. US M 400M relay.. first leg ran relatively slow.. commentators were going.. he needs to pick it up.

He ran a 46s 400M.. still fucking fast, but relatively slow compared to his PB. Come to find out.. he broke his fibula early in the race. Yet gutted it out. Talk about a fighter.

We are not nearly as dominating as we once were as recent as 2004 we won a Bronze and the 2008 Gold medal game was really close.

We don't need to take it out we need streamlne our national program so we can win the gold everytime.

Talk about dedication to the team/sport/country. Said he slipped and fell down some stairs at the athlete village a few days ago.

Anyways should USA win, he'll still get a medal.

Seriously now....somebody needs to help out the Japanese Women's Soccer team with their "hairstyles".

It looked like the USA women's team was playing a asian young boys team on the wide shots.
(sure there were a few exceptions)

Personally, I think the greatest athlete for the Olympics needs to be the winner of the decathlon and heptathlon events.

While Phelps won a ton of medals, it's impressive...no doubt...it's no decathlon -- that is the gauntlet truly. And to win it all after 10 events...? Godly.

That fool is rich off medals alone thou. 18 gold medals which gets you $25k prize, so $450,000' then 2 silvers with a prize at $15k each, and 2 bronze with 10k each.

So Olympics alone, half a million bux!

4 Olympics.. 22 Medals.. Not a tough argument.

Decathletes are best of the Games.. not best in History.

US payout is peanuts compared to other nations.. Malaysia was paying out $500K USD for gold medal in badminton.. they got silver. It was close.

So Mizouse is supposedly a virgin who makes less than $23k a year? I think he loves being underestimated considering bagboys make $23k a year in California.

do any of the winners of a decathalon repeat?

if you think about it, SOMEBODY has to win.. but if they can only do it once.. they are the best athlete of THAT olympics, not olympic history though.

he's dominated over the span of 12 years.. and medaled for even longer.

I would say that to do a sport like the decathlon, it is SO hard...the odds are really stacked that anyone CAN repeat. Not hating on Phelps...just don't know if his sport makes him the best Olympian.

I would almost argue that an athlete in gymnastics has it tougher. And well, we have repeaters in those.

Compared to Phelps, I wonder how well Jesse Owens would have done, he certainly had potential.
