im actually perplexed that they allow china to compete against each other in a team event..
they won both gold and silver in badminton..
how 'bout they let the US divide the basketball team into two squads and see who plays in the finals...
kinda chicken shit if you ask me.

put your best foot forward and compete against the rest of the world.

yes, for pointing out that in a competition meant to put nations head to head, there are loopholes where one country can compete against itself
i didnt bring up any controversies surrounding china or their athletes (there are several from this olympics alone)
i used them as an example because it was the first instance of it happening to my knowledge in these games

Rockstar21, you may hate it even more....
That beach volleyball final is actually LA County vs. Orange County, the 2 adjacent counties here in SoCal. Not only is the rest of the world excluded, the rest of the US is excluded too.

Is this your first olympics?
Olympics is an athletic competition pitting the best in the world against each other. Not the best nation, the best athlete. If you're the second fastest runner in the world, do you think it's fair to be excluded from running because your countryman beat you by .01s in the trials?

So what it's China vs China.. it could have been China vs Malaysia just as easily.. same for W Beach VBall.. so what it's US vs US.. if the wind took a turn it could have been China vs Brazil.
Now if it's a sport that isn't represented well around the world like women's softball.. then an argument can be made to drop the sport, not the athletes competing in it.. as it was decided for these games. Hoping Baseball gets another chance.

I'm not following your logic. They all go through the same qualifications to make the Olympics... so if two teams get through from the same country, what's the big deal? They earned it the same way all of the other countries could have...
And for the record, in 1996 Brazil met in the finals with two teams (women's beach vball) and the US met in the finals in men's beach vball.... so it happens.

So it's not OK for the smaller team sports but it's OK for individual sports? So when the US and Jamaica make up half of a track final b/c they each have 2-3 reps that qualified for the final... that's fine. But when 2 US volleyball teams qualify or 2 Chinese table tennis teams qualify, that's not OK?

individual sports are not, they are events based on qualifying rounds/heats where you run, throw, swim etc. against everyone's scores. your time/distance has more to do with your outcome rather than your place. everyone has the opportunity to win equally all the way to the end..
two completely different types of competition.
im not saying they didnt earn it, i was stating that it defeats the purpose of nations pitted against one another in competition and the excitement of a final match if one country is competing against itself.
even when track is 90% USA and Brazil, it virtually impossible for either country to fill the entire field of the finals... so there is still competition amongst more than one nation...
