I know nothing is pre-set but if this stands, the Patriots' path to the SB is pretty much guaranteed.
They definitely were looking past the Jags and assuming they were going to roll over them. So pathetic

I know the Steeler have only had 3 coaches in the last 100yrs but at some point Tomlin has to be held accountable.

Pretty amazing that the NFC championship will feature two backup QBs.

The blown tackle by the saints at the end still has me in the "WTF just happened" moment... If he would have just waited for him to catch it and tackle in bounds, the game is over. No timeouts, linemen running 50 yds to reset and spike in 4-5 seconds. GAME OVER... No, lets try to lay a big hit and WIFFFFFFFFFFFFF beyond words to lose the game. Now I have to listen to all the band wagon Viqueens fans blab still. I keep telling them to not get comfy, they still have 1 game and Brady to beat. I think that will be the only time I root for the Cheaters!

I don't blame Tomlin, I blame Todd Haley, the dude is a jackass and calls ridiculous plays at 4th and inches to try and prove how smart he is, yet they never work. He's a disgrace

If you took your rosey colored glasses off, you would have seen plenty of missed calls on the Jags, like holding and choke slamming line backers every time they got close to Bortles, yet not 1 holding flag. The refs were almost as bad as the NE game, but no one could be that bad

I have a question. Is it a touchdown if you have 1 foot in bounds, in the endzone, but the ball is outside the pylon?

It depends...
  • If you are catching a pass in the end-zone (or in the field of play), then both feet must come down in-bounds.
  • If you are crossing the line into the end-zone, then as long as no part of the player's body or football touches the ground out of bounds first, then one foot on (or inside) the goal-line constitutes a touchdown (assuming the ball crosses the plane of the goal-line).

Not if you're a Steelers fan... they'll whine about this forever, and ignore it when Bell does it.

If the ball's outside the pylon, it's not a TD because the ball never broke the plane

Not that it matters, the Steeler's wouldn't have stopped a high school team from scoring from the 1/2 yard line...

Not true. If an established ball carrier crosses the plain and steps on or inside the goal-line, even if he has very long arms and the football is a yard out of bounds, it counts as a touchdown. Errr, except if your a Steelers fan.

Not according to what you posted...

Like it or don't, believe it or not, the plane of the goal line extends beyond the out of bounds line.

Only if the player has possession, a part of the body is in the end zone, and no part of the body is out of bounds. (Agreeing with you, but clarifying.)
To simplify, either the ball or the body has to get inside or over the pylon into the end zone.

You may have forgotten (intentionally or otherwise) to include the Steelers proviso.

Bunch of Steelers fans calling for Haley's head but they should look at their D coordinator too. Made Blake Bortles look good.

Losing Shazier definitely hurt a lot but their defense has been suspect even before that

horseshoez is right. And this is VERY common, pretty much happens almost every sunday where a runner crosses the goal line in bounds and the ball is likely outside of the pylon space. I remember seeing a similar play from Kareem Hunt when he ran/slid just inbounds across the goal line but his arm carrying the ball was out of the pylon boundary. But as has already been posted, the NFL considers the "plane" of the goal line to extend into infinity. Rules are different for players who are airborne as they cross the goal line vs runners and then the pylons come into play.

I looked up the NFL official rulebook and it actually describes this exact scenario:

A.R. 11.2

Second-and-10 on B18. Runner A1 takes handoff and runs down the sideline toward the goal line with the ball in his outside arm. He crosses the goal line plane standing with the ball to the outside of the pylon.

Ruling: Touchdown. Part of the ball crossing over or inside the pylon only applies to an airborne runner who lands out of bounds.

When a team is allowed to score 40 points, yeah, the defense needs to be held accountable.

Well, whatever...at least these teams, losers too, GOT to play in the playoffs. Bears have no idea what that word means.

If my team is out, I generally like to see teams advance who haven't been there in a long time (or ever). And I guess in the Eagles/Vikings case, I like the story-line of the Vikings playing at home.

^^^Agreed with Jags v Vikings SB and the above sentiment.

Not a big fan of the Eagles because of their fan base....
