Steve Francis a Knick

http://www.nba.com/magic/news/Magic_...za_022206.html

Orlando, FL – The Orlando Magic have acquired forward Trevor Ariza and the expiring contract of guard Anfernee Hardaway from New York in exchange for guard Steve Francis, Assistant General Manager Otis Smith announced today. In addition, the team has waived forward Bo Outlaw.

“As an organization, you always look for ways to improve your team, both presently and in the future,” said Smith. “The moves we have made today and last week (Darko Milicic and Carlos Arroyo from Detroit) continue to build a solid foundation around our core players, such as Dwight Howard and Jameer Nelson. In addition, this particular deal has allowed us to gain significant salary cap flexibility in the future.”

Ariza (6’8”, 200, 6/30/85) has played in 36 games this season with the Knicks, averaging 4.6 ppg., 3.8 rpg., 1.3 apg. and 1.19 stlpg. in 19.7 minpg. He has made 10 starts, averaging 5.6 ppg., 4.5 rpg., 2.1 apg. and 1.80 stlpg. in 24.9 minpg. Ariza has scored in double figures three times, including a season-high 13 points on Nov. 13 @ Sacramento. More active on the defensive end, he has recorded at least one steal in 22 games and two-or-more steals 14 times.

Originally selected by New York during the second round (43rd overall) of the 2002 NBA Draft, Ariza has played in 116 career NBA regular season games, all with the Knicks, averaging 5.5 ppg., 3.3 rpg. and 1.1 apg. in 18.0 minpg.

“The moves we have made during the last few days are geared to grow and improve our team,” said Magic Head Coach Brian Hill. “Trevor (Ariza) is a young, athletic small forward, who will fit in defensively with what we are trying to accomplish. I genuinely like Steve as a person and wish him nothing but the best.”

Hardaway (6’7”, 220, 7/18/71) has appeared in only four games this season for the Knicks, averaging 2.5 ppg., 2.5 rpg. and 2.0 apg. in 18.0 minpg. He has appeared in 688 career NBA regular season games with Orlando, Phoenix and New York, averaging 15.4 ppg., 5.1 apg., 4.5 rpg. and 1.61 stlpg. in 34.0 minpg. Hardaway spent his first six seasons with the Magic, appearing in 369 games and averaging 19.0 ppg., 6.3 apg., 4.7 rpg. and 1.95 stlpg. in 37.2 minpg. from 1993-99.

Francis has played in 46 games (45 starts) this season for Orlando, averaging 16.2 ppg., 5.7 apg., 4.8 rpg. and 1.11 stlpg. in 37.4 minpg. He has appeared in 498 career NBA regular season games with Houston and Orlando, averaging 19.4 ppg., 6.4 apg., 6.0 rpg. and 1.56 stlpg. in 39.3 minpg.

Outlaw has appeared in 14 games this season for the Magic, averaging 1.6 ppg. and 2.4 rpg. in 11.8 minpg.

They both wear #3...Marbury 6-2 205...Francis 6-3 200...Marbury born 2-20-1977...Francis born 2-21-1977. They are brothers from another mother.

means isiah just made another dumb move. the move looks good on paper, penny and ariza for franchise, but francis hasnt been playing very well, and he does not fit on the knicks. isiah has a serious hardon for guards, because he seems to think thats all the team needs...why doesn't he just suit up, he wont have his job for long

I think steve actually benefits with another guard to share the scoring load. He seemed to do better with Cuttino Mobley in Houston than he did on his own in Orlando.

Why would they want Hardaway for even a portion of the season. I guess its safe to assume Hardaway will retire after this season, not even the Raptors would sign him

i think this was a great move by orlando.. jamar nelson proved himself to be a true point guard and they got darko.. and howard is a promising center and with francis handling the ball he prob wasnt gonna showcase his skills.. now orlando is going to have the most money during free agency in summer of 2007 to build around howard

Anfernee and Grant Hill had so much potential...and not just unrealized potential...they showed it in their first few years...but injuries killed them.

We'll see how Darko plays.....I dont care what they say in Detroit...if he was a baller like they claim..he would have gotten more minutes.

Anyone know what contracts are expiring in NY at the end of the year?

That's a pretty small backcourt for NY. Does Ariza get a lot of mins in Orlando? Maybe a defensive swingman that was needed.

Wow, Penny and Grant Hill's contract falls off. That's like $30 million right there off the cap.

Deadline passed. If Derek Anderson stays healthy that's a nice trade for us. Finally a 3 point shooter that can play. I'd rather have DA instead of Voshon Lenard. Hopefully J. Will and Glove stay healthy too since we dealt our 3rd point guard.

I'm hoping the Knicks could make some trades this summer. After all, players like Marbury, Francis, and Crawford are all tradeable regardless of their circumstances.

That's true but the way Brown was talking he really likes Francis. I wonder who would take Marbury still. He seems to be a plague with his attitude.

Neither one of those guards are very good at making the game easier for their teammates and are both considered to be selfish players. It's going to be interesting to see how they meld in the Knicks backcourt. Personall i give the deal because its just another example of Isiah Thomas trading away assets for a big money contract (Jamal Crawford, Curry, Jerome James, Jalen Rose, etc.). They need to just blow up their team and start over.

I just say they should at least play a run n gun offense.....at least make it exciting for NY fans to watch.

Bryan Colamgelo had accepted Toronto's offer.

The Globe and Mail reports that Bryan Colangelo will be leaving the Phoenix Suns and will assume the role of president and general manager of the Toronto Raptors.

"There are some final details to workout with the Suns regarding his situation that's where it right now," an NBA source told The Globe and Mail.

"There will be something more later, but it is not out of the realm of possibility to say he's coming to Toronto."

Contacted Monday, a Raptors spokesman declined comment.

According to the paper, an official announcement is pending and sources close to both Suns managing partner Robert Sarver and Colangelo indicated to the Globe that the Raptors' courtship of the 40-year-old reigning executive of the year has been successful.

The Raptors fired GM Rob Babcock on Jan. 26 after getting off to a 14-29 start. Wayne Embry took the reins as interim GM, dealing centre Aaron Williams to New Orleans for two second-round draft picks and acquiring Antonio Davis in a trade for Jalen Rose.

After meeting with Raptors officials two weeks ago in Toronto, three league sources told the Arizona Republic that Colangelo appeared ready to accept the position as soon as the "final details" were worked out.

That reportedly included salary talks that would more than triple his salary, said to be among the bottom third of NBA general managers at an estimated $1 million.

Suns managing partner Robert Sarver, whose group will complete a purchase of the team in June 2007, met with Colangelo during All-Star weekend in Houston and asked for a decision from him by the end of the month.

The team imposed a Tuesday deadline for Colangelo to make his decision. Sources close to the team said Colangelo was wrestling with his allegiance to the Suns, where his father Jerry serves as chairman and chief executive officer.

Colangelo, in his seventh season as the Suns president and 11th as general manager, was named The Sporting News NBA Executive of the Year after the Suns completed the third-greatest turnaround in NBA history while winning the Pacific Division Championship in 2004-05.

He built the Suns through a series of forward-thinking moves, beginning with the trade of All-Star Stephon Marbury and Penny Hardaway to New York in 2004 to create the cap space necessary to sign eventual NBA MVP Steve Nash and Quentin Richardson.

With Colangelo and 2004-05 NBA Coach of the Year Mike D’Antoni, the Suns finished a league-best 62-20 last season after posting a 29-53 record in 2003-04.

Kobe, Pierce, Redd, Wade at SG
Carmelo, Lebron, Jamison, Lewis, Marion at SF

=

No need for TMAC...figures, you're from Texas

Anyway, the roster looks solid. I'm surprised they don't have any dominant center in their lineup...first time in like 20 years.

IMO Tmac is better than any SF in that lineup.
