NBA: 2012 Season News and Discussion Thread

Yeah I listen Marcelius on my drive home on 710 AM, and I completely agree with Marcelius' statement that you can definitely come back stronger. When I tore/ruptured my right achillies, the only thing I could do was lift - I was put in a cast for 3-4 weeks after surgery, and then put into a big clunky walking boot for 3-4 months. Knowing that I wasn't able to do ANY cardio, I ate super healthy (1600-1800 calories per day, pure protein diet) and made sure to hit the gym 5-6 days a week. I got really strong - probably the strongest point in my life was when I was stuck in that damn walking boot.
But in basketball, unless you play a power position (like PF or C), speed is far greater than strength - and not just any speed but explosive speed.
Right before the injury I could run 100m in the high 10s (on super lucky days) to low 11s (this was at age 23-24) at amateur track meets. I rehabbed like a mad man after I was off my walking boot, and 1 year after the injury, I was stronger then I was prior to the injury, and in my first event back I remember I ran 100m, and on my absolute best runs, I barely broke into the 13 second range. I pretty much lost 3-4 seconds off my sprint time... You can definitely still get to a certain level of fitness. After the injury I was able to bring my mile times back to the 5 minute range, but you don't need explosiveness in distance running.
I always tell people who ask me how it affected my bball game that, I went from being a Russell Westbrook type of guard, to being a Goran Dragic. Although these days, I'm pretty sure I'm more like Derek Fisher... aka Old Man Awful.
I hate to be a downer, but Kobe's not going to be the same. This year was a renaissance for him - he was driving and dunking like he was the 28 year old Kobe of 6-7 years ago, I had a hard time believing he was 34-35 years old. But if/when he comes back next year, I'm almost certain that he'll likely slow down and play like a 35 year Kobe.
Anyways, I'm hoping my Rockets beat OKC in 7 games... I know its far fetched. But I have to show support to my fellow AZN brother Jeremy Rin.

CHICAGO – A 25 year old Peoria Illinois man filed a lawsuit Thursday against Chicago Bulls Superstar Derrick Rose. Matthew Thompson, a self-described long-time Bulls fan, and electrician claims Rose missing the entire 2012-2013 NBA regular season has caused him to have mental breakdowns and emotional distress, which ultimately led to obesity issues.
The former MVP is still recovering from an ACL surgery which has caused him to miss the entire season, his status for the playoffs as of Thursday is still unknown.
According to reports, Thompson claims Rose displayed negligent behavior by refusing to return to the court, despite having been cleared by team doctors. He blames his health issues on the MVP’s refusal to return.
No word if Peoria County Officials will take this lawsuit seriously.

Spurs game was great to watch, but it's obvious the Lakers still have work to do. Was good to see Nash back on the court.
Miami game was pretty obvious; they stopped playing around after the half.
Current game of the Rockets vs Thunder is getting good & not even halfway through. C'mon Rockets.

Sorry Doom! Been busy so haven't been on forums much - although since playoffs are starting, I'll probably be frequenting this thread alot more.

^ Like I said, I teared up a little because we witnessed one of the greatest of our generation go down. I grew up as little kid with Jordan, but Kobe was the greatest from my teenage years to two weeks ago. You always want a guy like that to go out on his own terms.
Anyways... I jinxed Houston. Was like watching a video game. Ugh...

Cavs, Mike Brown negotiating deal
Updated: April 23, 2013, 4:42 PM ET
By Chris Broussard and Brian Windhorst | ESPN.com
If they can agree to a contract, Brown will return to the job the Cavs fired him from in 2010 despite back-to-back 60-win seasons. He was the Cavs' top choice for the job and the only person they interviewed, though they did reach out to gauge Phil Jackson's possible interest.
The Cavs are expected to offer him a long-term contract that will give him security as he will try to lead them back to the playoffs after three straight seasons in the lottery. Brown led the Cavs to five consecutive playoff appearances from 2005-11.
Brown met with Cavs owner Dan Gilbert and general manager Chris Grant over the weekend in Detroit.
A major factor in Brown's decision to accept the job is that his family had planned to move back to Cleveland this summer after he was fired as coach of the Los Angeles Lakers earlier this season. Brown also has a strong and long-standing relationship with Grant.
The Cavs wanted to move fast to secure Brown. Sources told ESPN.com that Brown had already turned down the Phoenix Suns' coaching position and could've become a candidate for other jobs in the coming days.
Sources say Brown views the Cavs' position as one of the top jobs available, or potentially available, because of All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving and the club's substantial amount of salary-cap space.

I think Memphis can push it to 6.
Denver & GS can go either way.

Russell Westbrook, out indefinitely....
http://espn.go.com/nba/playoffs/2013...r-knee-surgery
FYI, Metta World Peace came back in 2 weeks after his meniscus tear at the end of the year. IMO, the west is wide open now.
Kinda unbelievable that Rondo, Kobe, Westbrook, Rose, Lee, and Granger are out of the playoffs.

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Russell Westbrook will have surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee and be out indefinitely.
Kinda unbelievable that Rondo, Kobe, Westbrook, Rose, Lee, and Granger are out of the playoffs.

That was nice...2 foot take off from the circle, 1 hand hammer. Powa....
That's pretty much what it boils down to. They've had a hell of a year, the only anyone is gonna beat em for 4 games is if you add Lebron to the list of injured guys...

He needs to go ahead & take the year off because he's not winning a ring this year. The Spurs are ready to put what's left of this team down & Howard will probably take off elsewhere if they get swept.
