Post MLB: A-Rod wants NY's love...or else...

...he's gonna invoke his dreaded TRADE CLAUSE! OH NO!

From CNNSI: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/200...mlb/index.html

Alex Rodriguez tries to insist that he wants to remain in New York. But an option in his contract allows him to become a free agent after this season, and in a radio interview Tuesday, he threatened to invoke the option if the fans did not embrace him.

a-rod needs to just shut and play. he has all the talent in the world so just try and let your talent and abilities win over the fans. he's not gonna be worshipped on jeter's level.

but he needs to stop talking to the media and making everything public. he just comes off even more as a sensitive, insecure b!tch.

He'd look good in a Red Sox uniform... I'm sure if he does become a free agent the Sox will be inerested (again).

He's played in Seattle and Texas, not the biggest sportstowns out there... Maybe he just can't take the heat of a big market, so maybe the AL East isn't for him...

He'll probably go down as one of the greastest ball players ever (by statistics), but to many it won't mean anything until he wins a world series...

Yes, it's those exact encouraging words that A-Wad is seeking and desiring. The poor soul's psyche is so fragile, I dunno what's holding him together anymore.

no, it's not easy to avoid the media. especially when you're playing for the yankees.

but i mean he needs to just stop making everything public. there's a difference between avoiding the media and not publicizing all your thoughts to the media.

To play on one of the greatest stages in baseball (even if I hate the Yanks) is a darn privilege...and for goodness sakes, A-Wad was the guy who OK-ed the deal to send him to the Bronx in the first place.

I guess in his own hindsight, he can't handle it. And well, pissing off the heart-and-soul of the team when he made those comments about Jeter a couple years back sure didn't help.

The original start of the quiet simmering feud...

TAMPA, Fla. – Alex Rodriguez questions Derek Jeter's leadership ability, remarks that are prompting a telephone call from his friend and shortstop rival.

Rodriguez, whose $252 million, 10-year contract with Texas is the largest in sports history, said his New York Yankees counterpart doesn't measure up to him as far as a leadership.

"He's never had to lead," Rodriguez was quoted as saying in April's edition of Esquire. "He can just go and play and have fun. He hits second -- that's totally different than third or fourth in a lineup. You go into New York, you wanna stop Bernie (Williams) and (Paul) O'Neill. You never say, 'Don't let Derek beat us.' He's never your concern."

Jeter, who got a $189 million, 10-year contract from the Yankees in the wake of Rodriguez's deal, was informed of A-Rod's comments before New York played the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday.

"I'll ask him tonight, and I'll talk to you tomorrow," Jeter told reporters. "The only thing you can ask him is what his intentions were. Do I think his intentions were bad? No."

Jeter's teammates have no doubts after his leadership role. The Yankees have won four of five World Series since Jeter joined the team, including three in a row.

"He's one of our leaders in the clubhouse. There's no doubt about it," center fielder Williams said. "He's definitely one of those guys, in a clutch situation, that would do something.

"There are so many games in the past he has won for us, either making a good play, doing the little things or just flat out hitting, carrying the team on his shoulders."

Jeter, who has slowed by right shoulder stiffness, is slated to resume throwing Saturday. He hasn't thrown or taken batting practice since Tuesday.

"I'm doing groundballs and stuff like that," he said. "It's hard sitting around. This is the time you want to be playing. I don't like to sit around and watch."

I don't see the Yankees letting him go even if he doesn't want to be there. There's no one out there that could be a comparable player. I don't see the Yankees letting all that $ go, & don't see many teams that are willing to eat the $ up.
Besides that aspect, if the Yankees let arod go that leaves a hole at 3rd. And who's going to fill in all year? Cairo?
arod is a little whine rich bitch & I hate him a lot but I just don't see him leaving.

It has stopped...but, A-Rod was an idiot for taking a potshot at Jeter. You just simply don't go after one of the leaders and most popular players of the Yankees.

I think A-Rod is a great player, but yes, he does need to STFU and just play.

Well, according to the NY Times, it took all but 6 minutes for the Yankee faithful to express their feelings for A-Wad...

Both.

Then again, I'm quite partial to all Chicago pro-sports teams uniforms and etc.
