Carmona is a young sinkerballer, and adrenaline might leave his pitches up in the zone. That happened to Lilly last night and he get rocked.

I knew Caroma would do well, him and Petite pitched a gem, a great pitching duel, but yet the Yankees lost. Lucky me my predictions that the Yankees will lose in the first round is coming true, I'm going to be 1-0 in my predictions. I don't hate the Yankees, I just thought their pitching couldn't handle a playoff series.

He was the best player in baseball when he played for the Indians.

I wouldn't go that far. Bonds and Griffey were clearly the best hitters of the mid to late 90s....along with providing gold glove defense.

Ramirez was more a peer with the second tier of stars like Belle, Walker, Bagwell, Gonzalez, Rodriguez, Sheffield, etc.

Well remember the year he hit .333 and had 165RBI.

Let's compare shall we?

Manny Ramirez
YEAR TEAM G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS
1998 Cle 150 571 108 168 35 2 45 145 76 121 5 3 .294 .377 .599 .976
1999 Cle 147 522 131 174 34 3 44 165 96 131 2 4 .333 .442 .663 1.105
2000 Cle 118 439 92 154 34 2 38 122 86 117 1 1 .351 .457 .697 1.154

Barry Bonds
1998 SF 156 552 120 167 44 7 37 122 130 92 28 12 .303 .438 .609 1.047
1999 SF 102 355 91 93 20 2 34 83 73 62 15 2 .262 .389 .617 1.006
2000 SF 143 480 129 147 28 4 49 106 117 77 11 3 .306 .440 .688 1.128

Griffey Jr.
1998 Sea 161 633 120 180 33 3 56 146 76 121 20 5 .284 .365 .611 .976
1999 Sea 160 606 123 173 26 3 48 134 91 108 24 7 .285 .384 .576 .960
2000 Cin 145 520 100 141 22 3 40 118 94 117 6 4 .271 .387 .556 .943

Numbers are pretty close, but I would say Manny might edge them both out, more RBI, better average OBP, better avg OPS and better avg. Slugging between those three years.

Numbers are close...I'd say more or less even...for those three seasons. For the more broad timeframe...including 2-3 years prior to that, Bonds and Griffey are superior...plus gold glove defense.

Of course, you didn't state "From 98-00, Ramirez was one of the top 3 hitters in baseball"

Like I said...he was a superstar (and is) just I do not see him as ever being the best player in the game at any time in his career.

@ Cubs...

I believe the turning point was when Zambrano was pulled in Game 1. But, whatever...ANOTHER year.

The grossest and most disgusting stat of the Cubs/Diamondbacks series: Chicago hit .087 with runners in scoring position.

Unacceptable.

My Cubs?

Im a Sox fan, selling out would be cheering for the Cubs just because they were winning.

Angels are out. So, the Red Sox and Indians (most likely) and Rockies and D-Backs.

All teams advance with 3 game sweeps. Pretty impressive.

Looks like Steinbrenner lighting the fire under Torre's ass might have done the trick. Still at least 3 more innings for the Indians to put the final nail in, though.

I'm surprised the Cubs got shut out, I guess I underestimated the Rockies. Question; is this the first year that all DS games were sweeps? I think so.

Nope it wont be because the Yankees just exploded. I'm guessing the players did this for Joe, they couldn't let him get fired.

As a Sox fan i must sound crazy but a piece of me was hoping the Yankees would win in 5...

It isn't the same going for a World Series without having to go through the Yankees...

regardless, the Boston will be ready for the Cleveland...

We already picked up our bug spray, military grade shit with DET, so their biological bug attacks won't bother us...

LOL...beng a Sox fan isn;t what it used to be. Now they have angst over whether the championship run has enough style points.

...and I was right about pitching Wang on short rest.

Is always, always, always, always better to throw your #4 over someone on short rest. Wedge didn't panic, he played the percentages....now he has a rotation set up for the LCS.

Pitchers simply can't pitch for 6 months, then go short rest and be effective.

I it'll be nice to have Beckett, Schilling and Dice-K all on 6+ days of rest
