The Yankees kinda signify all that is wrong with MLB: spend like an idiot until a title is bought.
It almost makes the need to build up a team through drafting, scouting, etc. out-of-date. How can any team, like the Royals, Pirates, etc...have a chance?
Obviously, you have to give some credit to the Yankees because they do sign the right guys...but, hey...if you give a bajillion dollars to the BEST players, it's not rocket scientist that a title shot is quite within reach.
MLB desperately needs a cap.

I actually quite like baseball...great, great game. But, the overblown salaries, the doping...it's kinda taken away alot of my interest in it.
And seeing the ChiSox and Cubs stinking again...that does not help.

And how fun is it when pretty much the pennants are spoken for every year for the $$$$$ teams...?
Sure...you'll have the odd "cinderella" team...but, kinda hard to be all that excited when you already know most of the playoff spots are pre-spoken for...

Thats true, but anything lower (save the bleachers) gets pretty pricey. Then again, Im not shopping them against any other stadiums.

I have rooted for the Yankees and Rangers as long as I can remember. I have Yankee & Ranger gear from 1968. The Rangers have won one cup in my lifetime and that's long in the tooth at this point (94)
I love the rational that the Yankees buy their championships. They did not win from 2000 to 2008.
The Yankees have many many players developed through their farm system, the they buy all their talent has not been accurate for years.
The Rangers have a very high payroll. They did not make the playoffs this year and went 7 years without going to the post season.
I love the silly Yankee hate, it is just so comical, keep the comedic gold flowing!

I feel the need...
This has been all over sports radio all day as you can imagine. I actually had an invite to last nights game in our suite but passed because the wifey wasn't feeling well (two months preggers) and I had to man up on dad duty and chase my toddler around.
Galarraga couldn't have been more gracious and the Ump took his lumps like a man. It's actually become more of a compelling storyline because of what happened. Crazy -- 21st (potential) evar, but the 3rd in less than a month - wow.

I know there have been some ideas floating around in the MLB that they might get rid of divisions and a seasons schedule will be based on how you finished the previous year. This way all of the best teams from the previous season will play each other while the teams that didn't have a chance will get the opportunity to make the playoffs. This could potentially solve the problem of pre-spoken for playoff spots. Not only would this give lesser teams teh opportunity to play in the postseason, but teams that wouldn't otherwise play each other would if they did this. We'll see what happens.

I definitely don't love the fact that they are able to spend and get the better players, and that the team is more of a business, but most teams are. And I hate that almost half of the 2000 Yankees came out as being on some PED.
All that said when you look at the team they have on the field this season you are quite wrong. Jeter, Cano, Posada, Rivera, Pettitte, Hughes, Chamberlain, Gardner, Cervelli are all from the Yankee farm system. And there are more. The Yanks do a good job at scouting. Yes they buy a lot of players, but they develop a lot of them too.
They have also shown that spending a ton of cash does not ensure winning. It does help. I don't blame them for the failure of the Pirates and other teams like that. The Pirates fail to reinvest in their team.
I do not think a cap will work for baseball like it does in the other sports because of the number of players in the system. I think that if ownership can invest in getting and keeping good players, then other owners need to step up.
I really hate the Yankee fan more than the team itself. Kinda like the Phils.
