BTW, guys...good job posting the signings...but, could you also provide a link? Convenient to have an article to go to if the person's inclined to read more on the terms and etc.

Not a bad deal for Boston, seeing Werth's contract.

Happy the Reds locked up Bruce and Arroyo and didn't overpay for them. Next step is Votto which I think will happen in this off-season. Although these stupid contracts being given out aren't helping us save any money.

I wonder what the Cards will do with Pujols? He says he doesn't want to be working on a deal during the season, and he'll be getting free agent offers next off-season if they don't work something out.

Tough spot for the Cards, and I haven't heard if they've even began working on a new deal. He's not getting any younger..

The Yankees will probably sign him to a bajillion dollar contract.

Baseball needs a salary cap, these contracts are just beyond stupid.

They're taking a page of the Marlins way to keep good players. Sign them under market a few years before they are eligible for free agency, well at least in Bruce's case. Look how much cheaper Hanley is vs Troy.

Long-term I think I'd rather have Grienke for less money since I think Lee will have a sharp decline, but I think both Texas and NY feel they need to make a run now:

1. Tex - While their young guys are playing at a high level and are still under their control, plus how big would the first WS title be to a franchise and their new owners

2. Ny - Before all these guys with mega-contracts start declining with age and they don't have as much money to throw around

Yep, that's really the only way to do it with our markets. Use the players you develop and sign cheap free agents to fill the holes instead of vice versa. I'm surprised at some of the deals these guys and some in the past have signed to stay here.

I truly believe the Reds could have high attendance at every game like the Cards or a comparable franchise, but the main problem is there is nothing to do around our stadiums to consistently draw people here from far away. Basically the river is on one side and skyscrapers on the other. To do anything you have to cross over to Ky.

Luckily that area is being developed now, right on track with our recent winning so hopefully things start changing

THANKYOU!!!

Finally someone who's sane. Every Yankee fan I talk to wants Lee. I dont, and never did. Id much rather get Grienke, or hell, trade for Liriano, if possible. Both are 26 and pretty damn good. Grienke has better numbers against the AL East though. Lee is 32 and giving him a 7 year contract brings him to 39. Hes not going to be in this form for the next 7 years. I dont even think he will be in this form in 3 years. I dont want the Yanks to have $20m+/yr tied to this guy when hes 37 and pitching like Burnett (ok, maybe not that bad, but still). And we still have a few good arms in the minors (Andrew Brackman for one).

Id also like to see the Yanks trade Swisher, even though I really like him. Maybe look into Justin Upton? Swisher + Austin Romine may be good enough. Maybe explore options with Joba too? I'd like to see Kerry Wood come back but he wants to be a closer. Id love for the Yanks to get Soria from KC but thats not going to happen.

Being a Mets fan, I would have preferred him in Texas. ....happy the Yanks didn't land him but not happy that it'll just add to next season's probable Met woes.

Next year isn't going to be a competitive year for the Mets anyway. It's a salary shed/rebuilding year for them.

Now is the time for Mets fans to kinda just hide in a corner until 2012. I would say maybe they could compete for the wild card if they had Santana, but without him, there is very little hope.

I didn't. Way too much to give up long term for any pitcher. It's good for the Yankees. This should force them to actually coach their players instead of letting them run things. The entire current pitching staff & even some of the minor league guys could carry that team. If they were coached & dealt with correctly.

I think he was more upset at the way Yankees fans treated his wife during the ACLS in NY. He really never wanted to leave Philly and I sure am glad we got him back. Talk is that either Blanton or Ibanez will be traded to free up money. I don't think the Phils would miss either or both although I'd rather keep Blanton for spot-starting or long relief (not that we'd need the latter)!

Yankees reach agreement with Russell Martin

Link: http://mlb.mlblogs.com/archives/2010..._with_rus.html

So I guess Jorge becomes the DH now and Russell is their full-time catcher?

I'm guessing that means you've seen him naked in Starbucks.

That's worse than being a Mets fan.
