What the hell is wrong with baseball.

Cubs signed Marquis for $21M over 3 years?

Maybe the dumbest contract yet.

Boras should be boycotted and any player he represents.

He is making baseball salaries an absolute joke. And the sad thing is these stupid owners are paying them.

Post Report: Lawyer cited as source of leak in BALCO case

Interesting...!

SAN FRANCISCO -- A private investigator who worked for defendants in the probe of a Bay Area sports steroid ring said a defense lawyer was the source of leaked federal grand jury testimony in the case, according to a report published Thursday.

Larry McCormack, former executive director of the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame, told the FBI that defense lawyer Troy Ellerman gave the confidential information to a San Francisco Chronicle reporter in 2004, Yahoo.com reported.

"We do have an investigation on those allegations that he [Ellerman] was responsible for the leak," FBI spokesman Joe Schadler told The Associated Press.

Ellerman, who serves as commissioner of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association, represented Victor Conte, founder of the Bay Area Laboratory Co-operative. He later represented BALCO vice president James Valente. Both men pleaded guilty in 2005 to distributing steroids.

McCormack told Yahoo he contacted the FBI on the advice of his attorney about three months ago, after he was fired from the Colorado Springs, Colo., hall of fame. Ellerman helped him get the job, but McCormack denied that he identified the lawyer as the source of the leak in retaliation for his firing.

"I felt it was wrong," McCormack said of the leaks. "I said it was wrong from the get-go."

Ellerman refused to talk to Yahoo about McCormack's allegations and could not be reached by phone Thursday by the AP.

McCormack said Ellerman leaked testimony to Chronicle reporter Mark Fainaru-Wada.

Fainaru-Wada and reporter Lance Williams, who have spearheaded the newspaper's coverage of steroid use, face up to 18 months in prison for refusing to reveal how they obtained the 2003 grand jury testimony of Giants' slugger Barry Bonds and other elite athletes.

Williams and Fainaru-Wada declined to comment on the report, saying they were standing by a commitment to protect their sources.

McCormack said FBI agents had him secretly record conversations with Ellerman.

Exclamation ChiSox trade McCarthy...

McCarthy traded to the Rangers for pitching prospects John Danks, Nick Masset and Jacob Rasner.

Um...wasn't Garcia let go for the sole reason so that McCarthy would get a spot...!??!?!?

WTF!

Suppan is a perfect example of a pitcher who stunk in the AL, but does well in the NL...

The BoSox had him twice... they drafted him originally but a few years later Arizona picked him up in the expansion draft. Later the sox got him in a trade (from the pirates), and then released him a few weeks later

No way can I ever defend the money...................

But I am estatic that the Giants finally made a move......We were the same franchise that passed on Vlad Guerrero because 5 yrs 70 mil was said to be too much,so to make this move really just makes up for any tight fisted mentality we have had the past few years.Which lead us to field these Old Aging Teams and then leads to major dissapointment in October... (end rant)

Baseball is flush with money again and every team(almost) seems to be able to buy nowadays. So to overspend on a pitcher who throws 200 innings every year and averages 16 wins isn't that bad(feel worse for whoever has Mike HAmpton 7yrs 121 mil)...

Almost seems like the Giants pulled a Tom Hicks and just offered there best contract right out the gate, thus avoiding the eventual bidding war between the NY teams in January....

Luckily Zito valued staying close to home over maybe a potential 8th year at 20 mil being added to the deal he already signed. Not to mention the pitcher he replaces(Schmidt)is making 16 mil next year,I'd rather have Zito.

So in the end the Giants as they stand now are a better team............but as I stated above the money is ridiculous ---nuff said

Report/hot Rumor:

Brian Sabean may not be done yet after signing Zito to the richest contract ever given a pitcher..........

Giants said to be offering a package (not known exact prospects) to obtain former 45 homer man Richie Sexon.

So we will have a piching staff and finally a lineup that will produce besides Bonds.

If the Giants also sign David Wells as expected we will potentially have the best rotation in the NL.

1.LHP Zito 2.RHP Cain 3.LHP Lowry 4.RHP Morris 5.LHP Wells

that left, right staff will give fits to other teams,so maybe expect the NL west to be exciting......can't let the Dodger get all the headlines(although I love the Randy Wolf move)

Personally I consider the Fremont A's the Dark Side.Who ever goes to Fremont for any reason.

Giants Fan support thier team(sold out all year) and thier cheaters.

For me it is simple: NL. i support Giants AL. A's all the way...........but without a doubt I grew up with NL ball so that is my favorite.

I am glad Zito is going to the Giants; I rather have him in the NL with a team that has no chance of making the world series, versus joining Texas, the Angels, or the ass faced Yankees.

I am not glad Zito is going to the Giants because...IT'S THE FREAKIN GIANTS!

I agree that it is better that he is in the NL, but I grew up hating the Giants with a passion (and still do). I do find comfort in knowing they will never reach the world series.

Mets are now left with having to overpay Jeff Weaver possibly.

Mark Mulder is also availiable although no one ever mentions him.

It's the NL Central. Anything can happen.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if they finish #1 or #2 with how unpredictable and inconsistant all the NL Central teams are every year.
