Fock all you bishes...! jk
They're just planning ahead for the lockout.. Got rid of all the high priced players and are ready for a more fair NHL bargaining agreement. And watch out if they get the #1 pick..

As most know by now, Sergei Gonchar was traded to Boston of all places today. Not that I thought Gonchar would have been a great fit here in T.O, we have to do something to improve this team, and Gonchar would have been an improvement.
What now? trade dealdline is next Tuesday and it seems our only option is Brain Leetch, who's old and IMO not worth more than a few draft picks.
Looks like another early playoff exit.

The funny thing about the leafs is that there really isn't any reason to improve the team. Every game is sold out so there isn't any benefit to the owners. So long as they are above .500 I don't think anyone is going to complain. I'd love to see them win the cup again someday but I can't see it happening anytime soon. I don't think a single trade is going to do much.

Now you are opening up a can of worms ...
I really wanted to see Gonchar here, but I think his price tag was too high. There was just too much demand. Just look at what happened last year with Nolan? Now I like Nolan and dont mean to pick on him, but we gave up alot to get him here, including a player who this year has more goals than him. And how did it help us in the playoffs?? I would wate to see that happen again this year, and the names I saw flying around, like Stajan and coliachovo ...i think would have been mistakes to trade.
I would actually like to see Wesley back, i think we need that kind of player. Leetch would be ok, cuz we would get him for very little.
What about the Habs landing Kovalev. That shocked the hell out of me. Its going to be a war in the east this year. I cant wait.

Well, leafs got Leetch.
Not sure we can say we got him cheap. First rounder (likely in the 20's) and two solid prospects. I'm just glad it was'nt Coliacovo, Stajan or Steen. 3 solid prospects is a good start.
But he didn't come cheap. While the Leafs also got a conditional draft pick, they gave up their first-round selection in this June's NHL entry draft, a second-round draft pick in 2005 as well as prospects Maxim Kondratiev and Jarko Immonen.

I think the trade is adequate as far as what the Leafs gave up. I was disappointed they gave out a 1st rounder, but I guess that's the going rate. I still think they need to fill a few holes. I think if they can package a deal to the Ducks for Rob Niedermayer, Ruslan Salei and Martin Gerber......that would fill the holes. I know there are better Centerman, D-man and even goalie out there., however, they might have to give up way too much. Manny Fernandez isn't a bad idea too if they want a goalie, he should come cheap as he is a F-A and no other team is looking for goalie help.

I think a team that loses 5-1 to Buffalo in their home arena while in the midst of battling for 1st place in their divsion/conference has no chance of winning the Stanley cup.
The leafs should be sellers not buyers at the deadline.

NHL trade deadline day.
So far the Leafs have signed free agent Def Cale Johansson
Tommy Salo and Cris Gratton have been traded to the Avs, and not much else. All the important trades have already been made so I won't be expecting too much more.
Its funny how TSN and Sportsnet are all over this trade deadline like a bad habit, its pathetic.
"Sportsnet has learned" Shutup already.

Leafs picked up 41 year old Ron Francais from Carolina for a 4th rounder in 05.
I also hear the Leafs are negotioating with the agent of Gordie Howe. My sources tell me a 5 year 40 miilion contract for the 70ish year old star is being discussed.

That Hockey Fight
What do you guys think about that guy that broke the dude's neck last night in the Colorado/Vancouver game? I think it's pretty fucked up. Hope the dude is OK and the other guy should be suspended for at least a year. I don't know about jail time, but it was a pretty cowardly thing to do.

wow, this is the first i heard of it. i dont think he should get jail time but the suspension is a must if not indefinate. i hope that guy is alright. that was the biggest cheep shot i have seen. it looked like he did more damage hitting the ice and having 4 guys fall on top of him then actualy getting punched.

This is going to be a very interesting playoff year. There is about a month left in the season and the Tampa Bay Lightning is in line for the Presidents Trophy. Crazy, huh? The St Louis Blues are in jeopardy of missing the playoff for the first time in 25 years! Well that wouldn't be so bad.
Trades
With all these financially challenged teams dumping talent, the last month will be interesting. The Rangers are trading off player left and right. How can you New Yorkers stand for the way they are running that franchise?
Who do you like to win the Cup? You know who I like...
Thank you Lung Fu Mo Shi

the marty hit was worse than this IMO. He used his stick. he used a weapon.
This guy is a little bitch no doubt, but do you really think he intended to break his neck? It was the worst cheap shot i have ever seen but i still don't think it was as violent as the marty hit.
Didn't marty hit a black guy also? was his racially motivated?

A lot of Bertuzzi faithfuls have blasted him all morning on the radio. IMO, Bertuzzi prolly regrets his actions and prolly would've done things differently. But whats done is done and after he visits Mr. Campbell tomorrow morning - I'm guessing he'll get suspended for at least 20-30 games.
Even though it was a cowardly act with intent to injure, I'm sure he didn't mean to break the doods neck and jaw.
What I don't understand is that Morre and Cooke fought earlier and that was the payback for the Naslund hit??
I guess Bert was showing Naslund and the rest of the world, that no one hits the star player without receiving any payback.
If someone knocked out your best friend, what would you do?

OK, I just had to add Toronto to your list
The truth is the Eastern conference is so stacked this year all those teams need to be on the list, including the defending champs NJ, Philly, Boston, and Montreal. All these teams are within a few points of each other and any one of them can end the year in first place.
Also from the west I'd say Vancouver has a chance, even without Bertuzzi that maniac.
