Ya, I'm also hearing the deal is 5 mill pro-rated, not the 10 he was initially offered. If that's the case, good for him. Apparently you guys are still 7 mill under the cap so that leaves plenty of room for a trade or FA signing or two.

But I still hope he pulls his groin, sorry. He set the team he apparently loved back a few years because he couldn't make up his mind.
Very true in the Leaf's case, but at least there were a few stanley cup banners in this organization's history. Vancouver fans are still waiting for the first Stanley cup to be brought back to this city.

As a Leaf fan I completely understand the animosity towards Sundin for refusing to be traded last season, but at the same time here was a player at the time who wasn't sure if he wanted to play another year. Hell...it's taken him this long to decide if he was motivated to play again this year. It was completely within Sundin's right to exercise the no trade clause and refuse to be moved. IMO...too many of these clauses are given too liberally.

All SUndin brings to the Canucks is an increased chance to win the cup, which is what most Canuck fans ask for.

The Swedish centre ended a five-month wait Thursday by accepting the Canucks offer of US$10-million for one year. Pro-rated for the rest of the season, he'll earn around US$5 million
So it was about money.

But he could have played out the year he was playing with a contender and chose not to for his own ghey/selfish reason's.

No trades are more for controlling where you're traded, not blocking a deal altogether.

I disagree.. Everything seemed premeditated to me.. We all knew he was coming back. But who's to argue when that has become the trend the last few years.

I think no trades are for controlling where you're traded as well as saying to management that "I do not want to be traded period."

Who knows? Maybe it is premeditated, maybe it isn't. The consistent thing that I've read/seen from the media (maybe dom can agree or disagree) that he holds all these major decisions close. Not many people (even his closest friends) can say for certain that they know what Sundin will do or won't do. Enigma is word that seems to best describe him.

One thing for sure is that any of these mid season signings should be stopped. Maybe the NHL should introduce a free agent waiver where all teams can claim these types of mid season acquisitions.

Yes - being able to steal shit and not get caught is tits!!

Serves Yahoo right - how many of us could really afford $10 for a really nice season-long stat tracker that we use almost every day? What were they thinking?? First they make us pay nothing for the league and now they want to rape us for $10? You know what I could do with $10?? I hope the asshole who wrote the really cool stat tracker code (that I use almost every day) becomes homeless and dies.

Is the 'restaurant' the kitchen at home?

So I'm open to suggestions in helping choose a new team name for a certain someone :-)

I was thinking Sloppy Seconds... but I'm sure someone else on here can help me think of something a little better

Now you know times are "tough" in NHL Land

The Kings, like many other NHL teams, are offering deep discounts in an attempt to sell tickets. But their latest promotion could make some previous ticket holders very unhappy.

The Kings announced they will hold a 36-hour sale in which all tickets for their six January home games, including those seats available in the lower bowl, will be on sale for $11.50 each. The sale will begin Friday at 11:50 a.m. (their flagship radio station is 1150 KTLK) and will end at midnight next Saturday.

If you're a season-ticket holder or already bought tickets at original (high) prices and find out that the people sitting next to you paid only $11.50, wouldn't you be slightly peeved?

Tickets can be purchased at LAKings.com, by calling 1-888-KINGS-LA, at the Staples Center box office and at Ticketmaster outlets. The minimum purchase is two tickets and the maximum is eight. No refunds or exchanges will be possible.

Any tickets on the 300 level that aren't sold during that 36-hour period will be sold for $11.50 through the end of January.

-- Helene Elliott LA TIMES
$11.50 for tickets that are worth hundreds?!?!?

Sure the Kings suck this year...but WOW!

I forsee big retraction of teams in the NHL next year.
Only the strong will survive...the league is overexpanded.

You think Anaheim is what's hurting the Kings? Having teams in Nashville, Atlanta and Carolina shouldn't be hurting Kings attendance.

The Leafs can charge $11.50 to watch a game on TV if they wanted to.

Toronto is the exception to the rule.

Elsewhere, there is the usual mix of success stories and tales of woe in the NHL.

Everything is rosy in Canada, where all six teams are selling out on a regular basis, which, of course, raises the question: Why aren't there more teams north of the border?

The Rangers and the Penguins are playing to capacity crowds in the East, and the Penguins have a waiting list of 2,000 fans hoping to find a seat when Pittsburgh finally gets its new arena in 2010.

Minnesota is playing to capacity, San Jose sells out most games and Detroit has rebounded after the team adjusted its ticket prices to match the sluggish economy. The Red Wings have sold out four of their first five home games.

That's the good news.

In Atlanta, they have experienced the three smallest crowds of the past four seasons. Attendance has dropped 15.7 per cent to 13,384.

The Islanders are on life support as owner Charles Wang tries to get a new arena to replace the Nassau Mausoleum, which is the oldest and smallest building in the NHL. The latest rumbling is that a frustrated Wang would be willing to sell to the right bidder or, if he gets desperate, to Jim Balsillie.

The Lightning and Devils are down, and Columbus, which sold out every game in the 2001-02 season, had only 10,424 fans attend a Monday night game against Anaheim. That was the smallest crowd for the Blue Jackets in the history of Nationwide Arena.
Cheaper seats have helped Dallas turn things around, but attendance has dropped considerably in Colorado, where the Avalanche once sold out 487 consecutive games. That streak is a memory.

Attendance is down 6 per cent in Los Angeles, where the Staples Centre is filled to 83.4 per cent of capacity. But my spies there tell me that - as is the case in many other arenas - the nightly attendance figures are inflated.

The only good news when you look at the struggling franchises in Long Island, Nashville, Florida, Atlanta and Columbus is that there is no shortage of teams that would look good down the line in Winnipeg, Hamilton, Kitchener-Waterloo or Quebec City.

Stay tuned....my $$ is on retraction....and the league on the whole will start to bleed red ink by this off season. The cap will remain as is.

Gary Bettman's stubbornness and failure to admit when he's wrong is killing the NHL right now. The man is a walking propaganda machine these days.

As long as you wouldn't pay $11.50 to watch a reg season game on TV, you're good.

I can't remember the last time I went to a Leaf game.

I used to go to the Gardens a few times a year because tickets were available and somewhat reasonable, even off scalpers. Although I usually came across a a free set once per season.

Since the ACC, tickets are too hard to get and too much money. So I don't bother even trying.

Ah, yeah -- my best friend moved to Toronto last year and gave me the scoop. Told me after he has more tenure and makes good with the boss, he'll try to finangle his way into the corporate suite. The Wings/Leafs play each other so rarely, I've never bothered with the ACC. Hopefully that is changing with the new scheduling.
