They are not going to let this drop like they've done so many other times. He's worth alot more than 500K in Russia.

I suppose that they could tie it up in court for years.

Read EVERYTHING you post.. All I see is "from what I've heard"

ASSuming shit like this is like me saying a team in the Top 5-10 payroll each year could buy themselves a Stanley Cup in 40 years..

Explain how they'd get him for free? They were supposed to this year til they Made him sign a contract at 3am in the morning..

The Pens like every team have a team of lawyers.. And it could be said that the Pens signed Malkin when he was no longer under contract or with any team. 2 weeks is up..

And they're not going to let this drop like they have.. Then explain the link I posted http://tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=175377&hubname=nhl

Atleast post some substance or some truth.. Anyhting other then word of mooth..

Jonsei, I'm basing my opinion on what I think will happen based on what I've heard in the news. How the fawk is that any different from how anybody else who forms an opinion? Where you getting your info? News I presume. Like everybody else who doesn't work in the Pens front office I can only go by what I've heard? What the fawk do you think you're doing?

As for that Sens player, its Apples and Oranges. Malkin Russian team is opening a new Arena this season (again from what I've heard in the news which I assume to be true ) They want star power to bring the people in, thats why he's worth so much.

Doesn't look like you've been following this story very closely. Again, he'll play in Pitt this year, but for how much? NM the 2 weeks, he put pen to paper on a one year contract, the Russsian team in due compensation, End of story.

I don't know.. The way I see it..

Player signs contract
A few weeks later player decides to leave
Sends in 2 week notice (legal)
2 weeks pass
Player is no longer under contract with any team nor has an employer
Signs contract with other team

If the 2 week notice is a legal "out" I don't see how they could even sue the Pens.

So you disagree that the Pens owe compensation? From what I gather so far, all we are disagreeing on is the size of that compensation.

No expert at all. Just going by what I've heard the experts say.

Standard comp would be 500k.. I'd say 500k-1 mil. max.. If they get anything..

Jonsei, your being an ass. Seriously, whats your problem? Don't like people disagreeing with you? See my previous post. I've stated many times that he'll play in Pitt next year. You yourself said the Pens will have to pay. All I'm saying is that they'll be paying more, alot more than the average transaction fee. We'll see I guess.

And as for links. I have not been following this story or any story for that matter on-line. Every thing I've heard has been on radio or TV.

I like civilized conversation.. You just keep posting "I'm right because I heard.." Then you either try to bash me or the Pens.

My "guess" is that both sides will want to settle out of court. I see the figure ending up around 1.5M

Jonsei, you are dillusional. WTF seriously. Show me where I posted "I'm right" My posts are nothing more than my opinion based on the information I've gathered. Thought that was obvious. Your reading what you want to read.

Where did I bash you or the Pens? My comment about they beng able to afford 3-4 mill was not an attempt at bashing.

Dolt comment from the "Pens can't afford it" - Obviously Any NHL team can afford 2-3 mil.

Medioicracy comes from the same "Pens can't afford it" - Atleast combine the Mediocracy and Toronto..

Let's face it. The Pens biggest problem is being in Pittsburgh. No matter who they have on their roster, they won't be able to win in that city. It's just a fact that can't be argued with.

Don't employees of most European coutnries sign contracts? I understand that "at will" employment is not the norm in Europe. I don't know about Russia.

But, if this is the case, how do Euro countries deal with the two week notice thing when they have employees under contract?

You should be able to shed some light on this dom, considering that you are a trans-am driving, nona-loving, nutella-eating wop from the old country.

Ok, so the Pens have nothing to do with him walking away from his contract.. So why are the Pens liable?

"The Penguins had no involvement in this at all because of the lack of an agreement," "This was Malkins decision to come to the NHL."

Before Jonesi accuses me of being a know it all. Rod Becker, a NY based lawyer was on the Fan 590 and clearly stated, the 2 weeks means nothing. Even a player who doesn't give the 2 weeks can jump to the NHL, but their teams are due compensation. Malkin's team is due compensation no matter what. A contract is just as iron clad over there as it is here, is basically what he said. But because the Russians don't have a tranfer agreement in place and Malkin's worth, they will fight hard to get as much $$$ as possible.

Now I don't know this to be fact. I just presume that Becker knows what he's talking about.

Somebody is liable. If not the Pens then I bet the Russinas would be just as happy if Malkin paid them. You'd have to presume the Pens will pay up though since they have the most to gain.
