I personally LOATH the Pink Things but don't consider them to be cheapshot artists considering they are up there with Chicago with the least fighting majors and being least penalized...so, not sure what the Pens were so combative about...blowouts happen to all the best teams.
They still lead the league in pim, 4th in majors, 2nd in bench minors, tied for 3rd in fights with 31. This is how the pengoons play

Well, so long as they have learned to tone that down in this year's playoffs...otherwise, any opponent they match up with come April will use the same strategy the Flyers and others have recently: Try to get under the Pens' skin and hope they implode.

But all kidding aside, there are no more stars in the NHL. The league is so meh right now.

I'd like to see top point getters in the 120-140 point area.

Besides, your boy illach is not afraid of paying up. Holland will just have to swallow his pride and accept the fact that the coach will make more than the GM.
Babs wants a challenge. A challenge on the biggest hockey stage there is. Like many before him his ego is so big he's sure he's the ONE man who can finally win in the centre of the hockey universe. He wants his name in lights. Burke wanted the same and failed miserably. Is Babs up to the challenge? We're certainly going to find out.

Let it go Fibs, Babcock is already in Toronto, the deal is done. You had a good run, move on.

Because high point totals involve risk and it's all about corsi fenwick possession stats and zone time. All those minimize risk and minimize super point totals. Look at Seguin in Dallas, crazy points compared to a year prior with the B's where he had better fancy stats. Look at Ovechkin last year, most goals worst plus minus.

If someone on Edmonton broke Gretzky's goal record but did it in another last place season would you be excited?

You don't think Sid is the face of the NHL? Sure, his scoring is a bit down this year but it may have something to do with his commitment to trying to be a better overall player instead of going for points-glory...

Like, I'm a bit not sure what you're looking for.

I mean, if I need to be less wrong, I could say Brad Doty, Anze Kopidoor, or Jon Quick are also other faces of the NHL. Not since the LeHeat has there been a Bigger 3.

And black label is correct...the current NHL is all about structure, defensive awareness, and possession times. The days of scoring 12 goals to win are over.

If you want that, watch lacrosse.

Well there's other factors. There is a higher caliber of talent across the board. The difference between a 1st line center and 4th line center is closer than ever. With less goon lines come less lines for stars to take advantage of, 4th lines on successful teams are expected to be defensively responsible.

To compare to another sport, Ronda Rousey is beyond dominant in the UFC, her last 3 title defenses lasted a total of 96 seconds combined (out of a scheduled 75 minutes). Is she the greatest ever or is the talent challenging her sub par? Gretzky himself has said he wouldn't be so great against todays competition.

Because of people like Gretzky, more kids have been prepped to play the game more people playing makes a larger pool to draw talent from. The nhl isn't just a North American League anymore, for the most part the worlds best are now NHL players.

Although, not so obviously is that black label does not think Shiarelli is the greatest sports executive on the planet on the same par as Deano Lombardino.

No disagreeing with or saying he's wrong. Point being its a boring game right now and no one individual is worth the price of admission. There are no more special players. People want special. People want to see greatness. Greatness sells. Great players define eras.

Again, I know and understand WHY there are no great, standout players right now. I want that fixed.

Really, you're ok with the league leader having 84 points? I'm looking to watch a special player. A reason to watch the highlights on SportsCentre. What's happening is NOT good for the league. That much I know.

You're basically asking for more offense. The last time the League tried that with less obstruction rules and shrinking goalie equipment, the teams adjusted and we have what we have now again.

Defense wins sports titles. It's like this pretty much in any pro-sport. Except the NFL this year...where deflating balls, cheating, and a stupid-call at the 1 yard line results in it.

He still is. I believe he owns the team. lol

In February 2008, Nolan Ryan was hired as president of the Rangers.[29] After the 2009 season, Ryan and Chuck Greenberg partnered to place the winning bid to purchase the Texas Rangers from owner Tom Hicks. The deal was completed shortly after the start of the 2010 baseball season. At midnight on August 5, 2010, the Ryan/Greenberg group, Rangers Baseball Express, was announced as the winners of the final auction to purchase the Rangers, after final approval from Major League Baseball. The final cash bid to purchase the franchise was $385 million. The opposing high bidder was Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban. Greenberg became managing general partner and CEO, while Ryan remained as team president.

Greenberg left the group in March 2011, reportedly due to a philosophical clash with Ryan. Ryan was immediately named as CEO while keeping the title of president.[30] Although Texas oil magnates Ray Davis and Bob Simpson served as co-chairmen and held larger stakes, Ryan was now the undisputed head of the franchise, with Davis and Simpson serving mostly as senior consultants.[31]

Ryan was named the Dallas-Fort Worth’s 2012 CEO of the Year by Southern Methodist University’s Cox School of Business.[32]

During the baseball owners' meetings in Scottsdale, Arizona, on March 1, 2013, the Rangers announced that general manager Jon Daniels would add president of baseball operations to his title. Rick George was promoted to president of business operations. Ryan's title was changed simply to CEO and both Daniels and George reported to him.[33] On October 17, 2013, Ryan announced that he was stepping down as Rangers CEO effective October 31, 2013

You're really gonna make me sift thru twelve hundred pages of yummy's verbal spewing to find your measly 10 buck wager?

I recall it kindasorta like this: post lockout, post realignment after Holland signed alfie...

domcha: Alfie is an ultra-douche
fibo: Dunno much about him since we've been stuck in the West
domcha: Bet you 10 bucks the wings finish behind the Sens
fibo: Dun

Now, even though you are the self-proclaimed know more about hockey than the rest of us, it is just a tad bit ironic that ultra~alfie is widely considered to be a class act, much more say than your run of the mill captain such as Benn-doosh.
