Dafuq @ Clarkson trade...the Leafs want to get rid of him so badly that they are willing to acquire a player in Horton who may never play again?
Senior Moderator
Clarkson has 10 goals in 58 games...Kadri has 15 goals in 58 games.
Also, Clarkson is -11...Bozak is -18.

I,m not saying it is rational, I think it is their reason.

They probably don't want Horton to ever play again, he's basically a compliance buyout of Clarkson. Yes Toronto will have to pay Hortons salary but they can afford it with no issue. Now they can use 5.25 million a year to get a player who's actually worth 5.25 million.

It's totally rational, this isn't personal finances, this is running the most valuable team in the league. You gotta spend money to make money, sticking with Clarkson for 5 more years would be irrational at the money they pay him. They have a better chance of improving the team now that they have cap relief AND got out of a bad contract.

Yep, addition by subtraction. Leaves lose 3-2 tonight. I bet they now go on a lose streak.

I feel the need...
Yup, clearing the deck chairs on the Titanic. Bandleader Nonis is directing beautifully to make way for Babs to get paid $10 miller per year to be GM/Coach as he rows in on fresh lifeboat.

I can't believe they're still letting Nonis arrange the deck chairs. Although its likely Shanaban is calling all the shots and Nonis is just a face.

But seriously, brilliant move by Toronto and not a bad move for CBJ. They don't print money like the Leafs do and can't afford to pay out 5.25 mil for a player who isn't playing and Hortons contract wasn't insured, they were paying him. Now they pay 5.25 million for a player who's worth between 1-3 million, at least he can get on the ice and play.
I think everyone is having a hard time recognizing how smart this move is because it involves Toronto. It doesn't fit their M.O. at all.

Some more insight on the deal...
Creative David Clarkson-Nathan Horton Trade a Great Step in Maple Leafs' Rebuild | Bleacher Report
They must have seen the TML joke thread and decided enough is enough.
Creative David Clarkson-Nathan Horton Trade a Great Step in Maple Leafs' Rebuild | Bleacher Report
Unlike the Leafs, the Blue Jackets have to worry not only about the NHL salary cap but also the actual amount of dollars paid out to players. Nathan Horton has five years left on his contract after this one, and his $5.3 million cap hit is less important than the fact that he has more than $25 million in salary still owed him, per NHLNumbers.com.
As TSN’s Bob McKenzie reports, Horton’s contract wasn’t insured, which means that a small-market Columbus team has to spend a significant portion of its annual budget on a player with a degenerative back condition who isn’t likely to play for it any time soon.
Leafs were the first club both smart enough to see it and rich enough to make it work.
Unlike Columbus, Toronto is rich enough that paying Horton not to play won’t be a massive strain on the bottom line. The Leafs’ problem is the salary cap, and Clarkson’s $5.25 million cap hit was a major pain for a team with the financial resources to spend to the maximum each and every season. Because of the way the deal was structured, Clarkson was seen as buyout-proof, which left Toronto with a serious problem.
It’s to Toronto’s credit that it pulled the trigger on this move. There are other teams out there with significant salary-cap headaches. As an example, the Los Angeles Kings might have benefited similarly by sending Mike Richards to Columbus in exchange for Nathan Horton, thereby ridding themselves of a terrible contract. The Leafs got there first.

Like, this is as odd as Moog admitting he's wrong on something or Deano made a bad trade/signing.

Very very plausible. My theory is fdl and dom got into a fistfight arguing about how sucky are the Leafs on the Sucky Scale.
With Moog, it's a bit more complicated. They were both talking about how wrong I am about goalies and I think Moog made one too many Frattin jokes and dom being dom, and having that short fuse, just went Slapya Titsov on him...
So, you watch it. I think you're next.

In the more f'd up world of Hockey News, the next NHL player to score a goal on Tuukka "The Wasp" Rask get free insect extermination for free for life.
http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-pu...202913174.html
Boston Bruins goalie Tuukka Rask recently had the bizarre honor of having a species of wasp named for him in Kenya – Thaumatodryinus tuukkaraski – as the team that discovered the insects had a Bruins fan among them.
As you know, the sworn enemy of the wasp is the exterminator, or Exterminatus Poisoninsectus. So when Terminix got wind of this honor for Rask, it decided to take a stand against wasps and all of their evil pestering by supporting those who wish to leave Rask feeling stung.
Terminix announced it’s offering free extermination services for life to the next NHL player who beats Rask for a goal:
“We’re in the business of defeating bugs. That’s why we’re offering free Terminix services for life to the next player who scores on professional hockey player Tuukka Rask, who had a species of wasp named for him this week.
“You heard right: The next player to light the lamp on ‘The Wasp’ never has to worry about bugs again!”

Hawks acquire Timonen from the Flyers for a 2nd rounder and a conditional pick in 2016.
He's a good d-man but here's hoping he's got some gas left and has recovered from his blood-clot issue.

We called; it's legit. The reward is capped at $1,000 per year. Which sounds like a lot of dead bugs to us.
Silly public relations pitch? Absolutely, but we’re always willing to hand out points for creativity. And as wacky as Rask getting a species of wasp named after him was, the next player to score on him getting free bug assassination services for life is an appropriate response.
Rask isn’t expected to play against the New Jersey Devils on Friday night, which means his next game could come against the Arizona Coyotes on Saturday. Which is great, because we assume a few of those guys probably have scorpion infestations.

Hawks get Vermette from Yotes. Not a bad rental pick-up.

Of course, this trade sucks because it wasn't Deano who made it.
