Although they lost, I gotta admit the Danes played pretty well. I hope Cameroon can tie Japan cus I picked Denmark to go thru lol.

Was it just me, or did the lighting in the stadium leave something to be desired?

Gotta say that those things have stopped me from watching more soccer then I wanted too. All of our TV's that have HD also have full audio systems, and watching the games on them just gives you a headache after 2 minutes. I resorted to watching the games with the volume very low... or watching them on a TV without a cable box/audio system... which kind of defeats the point.

So far it has been a very unenjoyable experience and most of my viewing has been relegated to watching highlights. Once the knockout rounds start I may just head to the local bars broadcasting the games since the patrons will drown out the TV sound, but the atmosphere will be more electric then watching it at home...

congrats to Japan!

the teams are showing up big this year!

cameroon played their ass off the last 10 minutes though. could've easily been a draw.

Very surprised with Japans win, and very pleased with Netherlands performance today. We were at a local pub for the ENG v USA game on Saturday, that place was absolutely electrifying. When USA scored I think I went deaf for a few minutes.

How many points does the USA need to advance to the next round?

on the screaming when USA scored. I wish I could have because my son was taking a nap, so I had to be quiet.

.
they only need one more point than the bottom two teams.

for example.
each team plays 3 total games.
3 pts. for winning.
1 pts. for a draw.
and 0 pts. for a loss.

you add up the sum of your 3 games and the top 2 scores in the group advance.

here are how they sit after 1 game.

SLOVENIA 1 win = 3 pts.

USA _____1 Draw = 1 pt.

ENGLAND _1 Draw = 1 pt.

ALGERIA __1 Loss = 0 pts.

^ That win by Slovenia was huge and could really mix up that group...

Or in the case there are 2 teams tied with the same amount of points it goes to tiebreakers, first being head to head result and then goal differential, goals scored, etc.

And Cameroon almost tied it near the end there. That guy shot a thunderbolt off the crossbar

gonna be VERY interesting.

it could be worse though, US could've dropped that first game and been playing some serious catch-up.

it pretty much forces US and England to win BOTH of their remaining games.

i wouldnt be suprised to see slovenia pull off a tie or even a win and send one of the 2 favorites home

From what I gather, if USA and England tie their next matches, then it comes down to the final game to see who advances.

Dutch got their 3 points. Definitely not the "beautiful game" I was expecting by they got their win grinding it out. Japan's goal was very nice, first win by the Japanese on foreign soil

Most likely, but we'll have to see. Slovania's win put a wrench in one of the team's plans. We'll find out which one soon enough!

i've yet to see the match, but i think the dutch will play better once robben's back.

i looked at their lineup and saw the attacking quartet look like this:

-------------van persie-------------

van der vaart---sneijder--------kuyt

i think the problem is there's not width. from what i've heard, the dutch looked better when elia came in and stretched the field.

that's why i dunno how vdv and sneijder can play together. they're not the same player, but they're similar and like to operate in the same areas of the field. i wouldn't be shocked if i see them running into each other and/or crowding their favored spots.

anyhow, if the US can't win the cup (yea yea), i'd like to see the dutch win it.

Sweet! I got IT to install Adobe. I searched for Flash and found the .exe to upgrade it as it wouldn't work for me. So I called them and asked them to install it. It is true that I'd get that error so I killed two birds. Hola Univision!!!

Crynaldo's dive causes a defender to get a yellow card. Its good to see he's back to his old tricks.

Great ending to that game. And the best part is that the stadium was relatively empty compared to other matches... so the swarm of wasps was quieter then normal!

Seriously. Watching the World Cup makes me ashamed to have been a soccer player. These guys are the biggest pussies. Constantly flopping, complaining about every call, and so on. Just play the damn game...
