Damn, 2nd half was so exciting. Rooney was definitely warmed up, I thought for sure he would put one in the back of the net with all of the 3 Lions' chances. Props to the USA for the 1 point, I'll gladly take that and take my chances with Algeria and Slovenia

same here.
with all the hoopla around the england game, the algeria and slovenia matches are the ones we have to get results from.
rooney scared me everytime he had the ball. he was effectively marked out of the match by demerit for the majority of the time. but having seen him score again and again during the season, i was scared each time he had the ball. but when he started dropping deeper and deeper into the midfield to receive the ball, i felt ok since there wasn't anyone else that was a threat.

Wow, horrible misread by the Algerian goalkeeper, almost as bad as yesterdays muff. Or maybe there is something legitimate to the weird ball theory.

Yesterday sucked.
I want England to win. I consider them 'my' team just as much as the US. Of course, I am definitely patriotic and want to see my country do extremely well. So yesterday's match sucked in that regard.
I felt no joy at the Gerrard goal. And the Green howler was devastating. I hope that doesn't end his international career, and I hope the English hyperfans don't take retribution too far. Good luck, I know.
Sigh. Best I can hope for is both teams advance, and now I can cheer on both without guilt from here on out.
With Slovenia up late, this is bad for both nations.

was hoping for a draw between algeria and slovenia.
i know what you mean, Cochese. it's like 2002 when korea and usa were in the same group. they drew and both ended up advancing (thanks to south korea's late goal against portugal).

interesting fact: this is dejan stankovic's third world cup. each world cup, he's represented a different nation: yugoslavia, serbia and montenegro, and now serbia.
too bad appiah (stephen) isn't starting. always rated him.
and really that essien isn't here.

Question: In the 2006 World Cup, weren't there simultaneous matches in the group stage? I seem to remember two or more games matches on at the same time. I like that this year there is only one game on at a time so I can watch at work on my phone and not miss a game.

i don't remember, to be honest.
i do know that in the last game of the group stage, they play simultanesouly.
for example, on the 23rd, usa/algeria and england/slovenia will be on at the same time. they do this so teams don't know the result of the other game before they play.

So far in the Ghana vs Serbia game both teams have played pretty well, Ghana has shown up.
And Germany vs Australia should be exciting this afternoon, I expect Germany to put a few in

Soccer... urr football... hockey on grass, I think. After the 8th grade summer soccer camps, there is very little interest in the sport in the South.

But now I just found out they offer soccer at my old junior high... bastards.
But still, I read somewhere that in America soccer is the most popular/played sport by youngsters up to a certain age... like 10 or something, then they start leaving it to play football, baseball, etc... shame..

its horns, they are allowed to do that.. the fans have more freedoms then just sitting in a chair and watching... its why they love to be there and go to games.
and actually, they are in africa, nothing to do with europe.
big boy dollars?
the US already bought more tickets then any other country... they already have our "dollars"
if you dont like it, turn it off

You can't help but feel bad for the guy...
Same thing goes for Kuzmanovic with that handball today with Serbia against Ghana... you just pity him.

Broadcasters are said not to be happy and World Footballer Lionel Messi was among latest players to complain about the vuvuzelas after Argentina’s 1-0 victory over Nigeria on Saturday. “It is impossible to communicate, it’s like being deaf,” said Messi
http://beta.thehindu.com/sport/footb...icle454621.ece
"The applause as the players leave the tunnel. The cheers as the big names are read from the team sheets, and the boos when the pantomime villains are mentioned too. The chanting as the fans contest just who has the loudest support. The awkward silence as everyone waits to see… if he’s okay. The venomous outrage at a bad decision by the officials. The spontaneous song that is sung by hundreds in an effort to spur the boys on. The wall of noise and excitement created by thousands as the ball makes its way into the opponents’ box. And that unbeatable delirium as the ball crosses the line. All of this replaced by the unwavering, inescapable drone of the Vuvuzela."
"Can you imagine the world's biggest sporting event if they let the fans have these cheap plastic bugles! Oh yeah, and they're incredibly loud. Oh yeah, and nobody knows how to properly play them. Oh yeah, and the sound they make is comparable to holding a megaphone up to your ass and sharting. Oh yeah, and every single one in the stadium plays almost the same f*cking pitch, so it sounds like a swarm of locusts. Can you imagine how much that would suck?"
There was a strong call from South Africans to ban them but those in favour were accused of racism and cultural intolerance (even the black people) so really the sound you hear there are the wonderful noises of political correctness.
"It is so sad that all of the beautiful atmosphere that usually comes with a world cup game is completely drowned out by these horrific noise gremlins. No singing, no chanting between fan blocks, no 'ohhs', no collective sighs of relief, only bzzzzzzzzzzzzzz 90 minutes straight. And the horrible part is that it only takes a relatively small portion of people in the stadium with these things to overshadow much larger portions of fans that actually are trying to create an atmosphere.
The only thing that makes it bearable for me to watch a game is to go to a large public viewing or bar, where you can actually hear and feel the emotions of people in harmony with the game.
I've been signing petitions and supporting organizations calling for a ban since the confed cup. In my opinion everyone at FIFA hates these things, but no one has the balls to seriously have done anything about it due to PC."
"I am a proud South African, but I am very embarrassed by the vuvuzela. I have never supported it since I first heard it years ago and support a ban on it. South African's have worked very hard for years to upgrade stadiums and infrastructure to create a successful world cup and change the worlds perceptions of our country.
Unfortunately the vuvuzela is ruining everything and people see/hear nothing but a annoying sound of bees and this will become a worldcup that fans and players will quickly want to forget.
Maybe if they ban it now we can save this world cup, but they should have learned from the confederations cup that these things are a menace.
For the record I too have lost sleep with people blowing the things at 3 in the morning. I have never heard them in a stadium before, but the sound on TV is unbearable and I have considered watching with the sound turned off.
As a South African I do appologise and in a time like this I should be very proud but, I feel like hiding, as vuvzelas are really not what South Africa and begin South African is all about."

in my opinion, i get the vuvuzelas and the whole "it's part of south africa" side of the argument.
however, as a fan watching on tv, i hate that i can't hear the chants. you don't hear the "daehanminguk!" chants by the south korean fans. or the songs from the english fans. or the "goooooooch" chants from the americans. the chants, themselves, are also part of the experience.
but oh well. hope brazil doesn't pick up the vuvuzelas in 2014.

Way to shut out Rooney for most of the game. That one blast he did towards the end was sure scary but I'm happy with the defense on him. Howard played his ass off. He made some spectacular saves. I was very worried when he got kicked but luckily he stayed in the game. Can't wait for Friday.
How are you guys watching these at work? ESPN3, Univision, and JustinTV won't work because of flash. I have an iPhone and d/led the JustinTV app but that will very difficult to watch. Anyone streaming for free via mobile?
