80m.

good riddance, however. i'm tired of this saga. but wow.

real still need help depending on who they let go. if robben, sneijder, vdv, ruud, metzelder, salgado, and heinze are all gonna be asked to leave, they still have a lot of holes. especially in defense. but wow.

question is....with ronaldo and probably tevez leaving, who are we gonna get?

^ ya I read that too. SOOOOO it looks like Villa to Real is almost a sure thing.

"Return of the Galacticos" starring Kaka, C. Ronaldo, David Villa, and probably more to come.

With all that midfield strength they just brought in, they are SURE to let a few people go, definitely looks like a few of the Dutch. I'd like to see Sneijder at Chelsea. But I can't believe Chelsea might sign Pirlo for $20mil. He is a good player but too old and not worth the money.

pirlo's only 30. that's the equivalent of being 25 for chelsea.

what's the deal with deco? is he going to inter?

and of real's dutch midfielders, i wouldn't be opposed to taking sneijder or vdv. robben's probably the best of the 3, but he's like mr. glass. and i find him to be a selfish ballhog. vdv is the one i'd prefer, actually, but he's kind of difficult to accomodate into an established club.

Yea I think Deco leaving Chelsea is a given. Most probably going to go to Inter. I wonder what Sir Alex will do with all that money... I'd pocket it

I am not familiar with the contract structures in Europe, but I was wondering how much is Ronaldo getting paid? Does he make any money off the transfer or do that happen when he gets a new contract?

unlike professional sports in the U.S., soccer players' salaries (or as the brits call it, wages) aren't publicly known. we just have a guesstimate.

for example, ronaldo was rumored to have been making around 120k GBP per week (they do it by weeks there).

as for the transfer fee, it really depends on how it's negotiated between the two two clubs and the player, himself:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transfer_(football)
As part of the transfer deal, a proportion of the fee may go to the player himself and any agents involved in the deal. Again, the exact percentage is subject to the regulations of the relevant governing body.
so we really don't know since unlike american sports, any clauses and details aren't really made public.

The 80 million pounds Real Madrid paid Manchester United goes directly to Manchester United, not Ronaldo. He sees none of that. That money is purely for the purchase of the player. Then after that, Ronaldo has a contract where he is paid. And it is fucking ridiculous how much he will get paid. ^ or what Jedi said?

It looks like he will initially earn 9.5million pounds a year and the contract would include a 25% increase season-on season. He is expected to sign a six-year contract, which means by the final year he would be making 29 million pounds a year.

Put in American dollars, he would earn $15.7 million his first year and $47.8 million his last year. That is FUCKING INSANE. I have never seen anyone in any sport ever make that much in one year based on just salary (as in not including advertisements, I'm sure Tiger Woods makes around that with advertisements).

seriously. in his final season, MJ made only like $36 million from just salary.

at least in england, i do know that they've been trying to stop the agents from getting a cut of the transfer fee. the whole tevez saga is making it worse.

one thing that hasn't been mentioned yet, is that real madrid requires its players to give half of its earnings from endorsements and such to the club. (the club made millions from beckham due to this).

Well, i have to say Ronaldo played his cards right and now he is banging ol Mary Jane Rottencrotch (Paris Hilton) and laughing all the way to the bank. I still don't think, per Carnavaros comments, that this will make Real Madrid a better team.

they've got a lot of problems:
1. management and front office. they're a circus show. how many presidents have they gone through in the last 3 years?
2. how many coaches have they gone through in the last 6 years? i remember beckham saying during his 4 years at real, he had like 6 coaches.
3. defense. once pepe was suspended for the season, they had no legitimate backup to play alongside 36 year old, washed up cannavaro.
4. no left back
5. injuries
6. they're old

it's all dejavu. buying kaka and ronaldo is the equivalent of zidane and figo, practically (though younger than when the latter were signed). but the galactico era 2.0 better start including more younger players and defenders.

and i dunno why real don't give their youngsters that grew up in their youth programs a chance. guys like torres, de la red, garcia all look like quality players. they love the club, unlike some of the expensive stars, but they all leave because they never get a chance to play. real should look at how barca develops and keeps their players.

it's a trainwreck, that club.

makes no sense for liverpool.

eto's a great striker, and even though liverpool need more depth up front, just doesn't make sense to me. especially if xabi alonso leaves.

iforyou, i dunno who would replace mascherano and/or xabi alonso now that barry's at city.

Well seems like Mascherano and Xabi Alonso are both staying at Liverpool...at least according to Liverpool's website, that's true:

http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/drill...90614-1327.htm

""Despite repeated media speculation on the futures of Xabi Alonso and Javier Mascherano, Liverpool has received no official approach or offer from any club regarding the players.

"Neither is for sale and furthermore Liverpool has no interest in the long list of Spanish based players being linked with a move to Anfield as part of any deal.""

really?

dunno why fergie would even try. no way benitez would sell him. are you sure it's not david villa that united are after?

anyways, the US played well even though they were down a man for 60 minutes. the final score doesn't reflect it, but the US played better than the final result.

I saw rumors that David Villa to Real talks broke down. So maybe talks with ManU or Chelsea are back in the works?

But yea US played very well the first half. But the Italians aka divers *cough* played very well and beat them legit. I would be surprised if USA even gets 1 point this whole tourney. Spain vs Brazil in the final imo.

liverpool to sign glen johnson for 17m GBP.

good signing. but i don't get it. benitez was squeezed out of cash when trying to sign barry for around the same price last year.

interesting to see what the astronomical figures for kaka and ronaldo will do to other signings. will it increase the value for everyone else now? or are real just playing in their own game?

I also doubt Benitez would let Torres go. And it seems like Torres really likes Liverpool.

I didn't watch the US vs Italy game unfortunately. But I heard that they scored first.

speaking of spain, i wouldn't mind signing david silva at all.

he'd accomplish 3 things:
1. gives us a young, quality winger
2. keeps nani from playing regularly
3. it's a smack in the face to liverpool

WOW. Just wow. Who would have thought that USA would make it to the semi's of the Confed Cup? NOBODY. EVERY SINGLE PERSON on espn and even my friend's and I thought without a doubt their shit was over. But SOMEHOW they get in. Brazil raping Italy ( I HATE Italy ) was AWESOME. But USA played the best I've seen them play in a long time against Egypt. Great goals, should have even been 4-0 with the handball in the box. All I can say is WOW and to team USA.

However, everyone in the world will know they will get raped by Spain in the semi's . And Brazil will without a doubt put on a clinic vs South Africa. Those two games are on Wed/Thurs. So no biggie.

But I can't wait for Sunday's final: Brazil vs Spain - should be an EPIC game. I CAN'T WAIT!!!!

what a game!

it's been so long since i've seen this squad play with this kind of drive and passion. granted, egypt were missing some of their best players, but they're still a very good team.

i was skeptical of starting charlie davis, but he came through, for sure.

i was thinking there's no way they'll be able to advance, but thanks, brazil!

landon, gooch, demerit, and spector have been great this tournament. i hope clubs are watching gooch because he's been a rock this entire tournament.

I am watching the USA vs Spain game. All I can say is .

2-0 USA!?!?! Everybody around the world is shocked, as am I. Both teams are playing great games. USA is creating chances and obviously finishing a few of them. Spain has had some great shots too, but Howard has had some great saves.

7 min left for a HUGE upset?

What a game. btw horrible tackle by Michael Bradley...

Spain's last loss was Nov 2006. Since then they have gone on a 35 game unbeaten streak...until now... to team USA. Just WOW.
