College Football National Champs Predictions
So who does everyone think will be the National Champs this year. I know my school, Auburn, has a decent chance of winning depending on our QB Cox. I know Ohio State should be pretty good this year, but I can't really think of anyone else. Please enlighten me!

It's impossible to predict these things, because every team changes 1/4 of their players every year. Saying that, Michigan will win this year.

Well I really don't think that it will be Oklahoma or Miami. What a way to screw up there Rhett, you could have at least gone to work 20 hours per week instead of an average of 5 hours and getting paid $18K for the summer. I'm not saying that i wouldn't have done it as a broke ass college student but i would have at least hung around the lot, test-driving cars for at least 20 hours per week.

Sadly, he might never earn that much again in his life. What a moron.

And seated to my right on that town hall panel in a suburb of Dallas three years ago were a well-known local high school football coach and his son, the top quarterback recruit in the country who'd already announced he would attend Oklahoma.
Upon introducing Rhett Bomar, Jerry's son, the moderator joked that Rhett wasn't going to a Big 12 school in Texas or even Nebraska, the moderator's alma mater.
Colleges
"How 'bout if I gave you a new car to drive up there [Nebraska] and check it out?" Ch. 8 sports anchor Dale Hansen needled.
Like everyone in the auditorium, Bomar chuckled at the comical suggestion that he commit a well-known NCAA rules violation.
Bomar knew right from wrong then. He knew the difference last year when, according to an OU investigation, he accepted pay for work at a car dealership that he did not perform.
And he certainly knows it now that Bob Stoops has kicked him, the starting quarterback, off the football team – for good – for breaking the most fundamental rule in college athletics: Thou shalt not take unreasonable (i.e. stupid) advantage of one's athletic status.
Bomar, 21 now, has no one but himself to blame for having become the top college quarterbacking calamity in the country. First came two citations for being a minor in possession of alcohol, although one was dropped for lack of evidence. Now comes his acceptance of a paycheck knowing he didn't do the work.
No so-called student-athletes these days, given that they've been as schooled in the dos and don'ts of NCAA participation as they have been in the playbooks of their sport, have any excuse for getting tangled in such a dim-witted act. They know you can't accept money. They know you can't take bogus jobs. They know you can't dismiss class like some defender on the field of play.
It's not some rogue booster's fault. It's not some phantom employer's fault. It's not the fault of some professor who wants a locker room pass after the big game.
Athletes know there are some who have gotten away with wrongdoing, but this is the risk if caught: banishment.
Maybe the OU athletic department and its football coach should have steered Bomar and every other athlete clear of working at Big Red Sports/Imports after an investigation into the booster-run dealership's employment of other OU football players and its dealings with star tailback Adrian Peterson. He "test drove" a used late-model Lexus from Big Red for several weeks.
Such a cozy relationship with a company that has a name that sounds like it came from your media guide never looks good. You can bet that a bunch of students from OU's outstanding atmospheric sciences college weren't working there or getting deals on its luxury cars.
Maybe the school's become a little relaxed at a time when, if anything, the NCAA is demanding that its members be more diligent.
Indeed, the athletic department is already nursing its men's basketball program for minor violations committed under former coach Kelvin Sampson's watch. And baseball coach Larry Cochell resigned last year after a report that he repeatedly used a racial slur in describing one of his black players.
Bummer Sooner.
It's almost like the old days when Barry Switzer was running things: championships, cars, partying, money.
But at least athletic director Joe Castiglione has seen to it that the right response be made. The school sanctioned the basketball program. It distanced itself from Cochell. It sent its starting quarterback and his partner in crime, lineman J.D. Quinn, packing, even though their loss will irreparably damage the football team for this season, if not the next as well.
It could be enough to make Stoops reconsider the annual offers he gets to coach in the NFL. After all, he doesn't have his quarterback of the future, and his all-world running back probably isn't going to stay around for another year of pounding for nothing when he can get pounded in the pros for millions. That is the potential magnitude of this childish disaster at Oklahoma.
But this is the exact sort of thing talked about that evening when Bomar, his dad and others in high school and college athletics talked about the games they love. They talked about keeping academics the priority. They talked about playing by the rules. Jerry Bomar even volunteered that everyone on a team should be treated equally.
Bob Stoops just exercised Rhett Bomar's dad's desire. He didn't play favorites. Bravo.

every big program knows this stuff goes on... all the coaches turn a blind eye (.....Bobby Bowden)
Bomar was stupid enough not to make an effort to try and work.... at least get paid some money under the table..

I'm gonna try to get the Big 12 package this year if my cable company offers it. I'm at TTech now for grad school but sure miss the burnt orange + ATX.

Brady Quinn will win it. Even if he has just a decent season, the media is going to be all over him.
