Mettenberger seriously outplayed Murray all spring. He wouldn't have started the first game, but other than that...

Absolutely sick DL class last year... 3 Top 10 players Nationally... Powell is a beast. That DL will be nasty in a couple years when they are playing next to each other.

Everything I've read from UGA fans is that Murray was and is the starter. Could be deflection for Mettenberger leaving?

It would have been temporary had he run into the slightest trouble. Zach was too good to leave on the pine.

Maybe....if Ohio State played USC this year

Alabama will be the only SEC team with any national title chance this year.
*Arkansas will surprise people.
Tennessee, Auburn, South Carolina, Georgia et al will all win a few games early in the season, be ranked in the Top 10, then lose 5 out of the last 6.

This is suppose to be the "Year of the Mid-Major" but something tells me Boise State will lose a game this year.

ACC...doesn't matter

Either Texas or Nebraska will win the Big 12. Oklahoma lost a LOT of talent in the draft this year.

Stanford wins the Pac 10. Andrew Luck is the real deal.
Kiffin leaves USC at the end of the year to coach the Chargers when Norv Turner gets fired for losing in the playoffs yet again.

The Great cschmiebino has spoken

oh yeah...Ohio State national champs...Prior gets the Heisman

Honestly I dont have anything against OSU. I really am rooting for them this year. I hope they demolish the "U". I also hope USC gets beat down, I hate kiffin

Edit: After seeing the OSU post above me, I hope OSU beats Miami and then continues to get spanked by Purdue, Wisconsin, PSU, and Iowa. Still, you need to kick miamis ass. And I say florida drops one game this year, which is to Alabama, and even then I think the game could go either way.

NCAA: 2010 Footballpalooza

Figured I'd start it, since none of the existing individual threads seemed appropriate to start off with.

Who will win? Will Lane leave USC for the pros after a year? Will Alabama repeat?

Breaking news: Vandy football coach (yes, they have a team) Bobby Johnson to resign today at a 2pm presser.

No clarification to the earlier rumor he accepted the Heat's mid-level exemption.

Lane will not leave.. he's locked into the best job for him with zero expectations to win.

Alabama will not repeat.. 2 losses for them this year

UNC football is being investigated.. possibility of 4-5 defensive players suspended for improper contact with agents.

A South Carolina player is also being investigated, as well as Maurice Pouncey (Florida OL) from last year... same reason.

too bad our school got punched by NCAA.. i'm still going to enjoy our team playing on the field!

and yeah i don't think Lane will leave after 1 year.. now that will be really bad for his career.

I'll add that I've heard the FBI has joined the NCAA and more athletes/schools will be investigated for improper contact with agents...

Alabama DE Marcel Dareus is now being investigated... LSU is supposed to be next. There may be a couple more Alabama players involved, but nothing official yet.

It's o.k. to be investigated if you have a winning program... we win a Championship in baseball, and the NCAA dogs are scratching fleas in our football program. Go figure.

No schools should be punished for this.. just the players. The only school that may get in trouble for this is Alabama because they are on probation. Otherwise the players involved will be ruled ineligible and be done with college football...

So what if the Bama player went to a party? If he did, he'll get kicked off the team, and that should be it. However, as Cochese said, it doesn't work that way. Since Bama is already on probation, the hammer could come down on them HARD.

Yes and no.. If the university doesn't try to hide or cover up any facts then this case can be limited to just Dareus.. However, if the university lies and covers up facts then they will be in a lot of trouble.

Agreed. Everyone can laugh at USC now and how they tried to cover things up.

UF came right out with it and said this could potentially be a violation even though the rumors have not been confirmed as true.

From a Miami fan..

Earlier this year I had a conversation with a coach in SEC, Meyer sent a letter to the NCAA stating that they had two years to clean up the agent and other illegal activity that was rampant accross College Football, especially the SEC. He stated that he would go to the press with everything he knows about recruiting violations and it would bring down the NCAA.

Fast forward to today and the NCAA is looking for anything that involves any of these two things. Also, it makes sense as to why UF has been so quick to respond to the Pouncey situation.

I dislike a Meyer a lot, but if his letter helps clean up CF, I am all for it.
When asked what coach he talked to..

Cant say, dont want to screw my source. He has been spot on, told me about USC sanctions 6 months ago.

Well since Bama is already on probation, I assume they will get the death penalty or get slapped with lack of institutional control.

Pouncey has vehemently denied the allegations, and has even offered up his bank statements and bank statements of his mother, brother, whomever to clear his name. Hopefully the rumors are false.

Modified death penalty IMO.. instead of no football they'll just do no home games

Pouncey's situation is completely different from the UNC, USC & UA situation. Florida was internally investigating Pouncey and the media found out so it was reported.

Honestly, writing about it pisses me off, so I'm not going to. I'll just say that it's a very rare day on earth that the NCAA actually punishes those responsible for a violation and doesn't leave a wake of destruction in it's path for those who are innocent.

You're referring to schools like USC for the Bush penalties? Bush did not get punished, but incoming freshman, and other current athletes have to deal with the penalties?

I agree with that, but in this case, when dealing with agents only the players who are found to violate the rules will be punished. No one else should get a penalty for this situation.

They went on probation from 2002-2006 for the Albert Means saga.. They went back on probation in 2009 for..

On June 11, 2009, Alabama was sanctioned for textbook-related infractions involving 16 of 19 sports, including football. They were forced to vacate 21 wins from the 2005, 2006, and 2007 seasons and were put on three years probation, ending in June 2012.[122] The university stated "none of the textbooks or materials was used for profit or to get items not related to academics, and that the athletes involved who still have eligibility remaining have had to pay restitution."[123] Alabama's appeal of the ruling was unsuccessful.[124]
It was a joke they weren't penalized anymore than that, but they'll get what's coming to them. They conveniently couldn't find records of book purchases that occurred while still on probation.. Must of got lost

Quote taken out of context. It started by me simply asking these "SEC is God" members to please make their own thread. This is a college football thread, not an SEC thread.

P.S. I can take cracks at teams (S. Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia) that EVERYONE hypes until about 5 games into the season. Then it's same old same old...Alabama or Florida? hmmm a 2 strong team conference, sound familiar?
