Well he loves what he does, that's a big part of it, but SAS has awesome benefits as well. Healthcare is super cheap, full gym on campus, daycare on campus, two cafes on campus, etc. The main cafe has someone who plays the piano during lunch and the food is very reasonably priced. He gets discounts at auto repair shops, restaurants, AAA, hotels, and even cell phone providers. Dr. Goodnight takes care of his employees, that's for sure. It's a very nice atmosphere to be a part of.
I'm trying super hard to get an internship there next summer. Everyone in my dad's building has pretty much seen me grow up so getting recommendations shouldn't be too hard.

SAS used to stand for "Statistical Analysis System" but that was dropped a while back.
Mostly statistical software and infrastructures that other businesses use for data management. NC State and even the government use their software. More recently they have expanded into operations research, application development, and project management stuff.
They do some different stuff as well; the building next to my dad's building designed most of the creatures in the original Men in Black.
Edit: Damn you

It wouldn't surprise me.
Here's a cool story: My dad travels a lot and his flight out of NJ was cancelled because of a bad storm. Dr. Goodnight's wife and daughter were heading back from NY after a weekend shopping, heard about my dad getting stuck, and picked him up from the NJ airport and brought him home on their private jet.

I currently work for IBM. I've been with them for 5.5 years working various contracts. I mainly deal with hardware support, but have supported software as well. IBM doesnt conform to the typically job titles, but Im basically a System Admin. I do a lot of work for a very large bank here in Richmond. The reason I was hoping to go to Charlotte is because they have a data center there as well. Plus, I like Charlotte
The job offer is in a different division, and its a different role. It would be standby support for a few contracts, with call-outs and insane hours (more insane then what Im currently doing). I'd much rather have a dedicated account to work on, so there is some predictability in my life. The other thing that sucks is that its a lower band level then what I currently am, so I'd have to take a pay cut. That division is much better to its employees then the one Im currently in, and theres room to grow. How far though? I dont know. The pay is what is sticking out in my mind the most. I've been offered a job with this division three times now, and each time they couldn't match my current pay. They were, at minimum, off by ~$10k a year. Thats a big paycut and a huge reason as to why I haven't moved on from my current position.
But, I'm also toying with the idea of changing professions entirely. My father has worked in insurance since the 70s, and IIRC, he currently runs a region in California. He described a bit of it to me, and its a very enticing opportunity.
It wouldn't surprise me.

Sept 1 will probably be in VA visiting Dorthy's dad.
Oct 20 i will be watching million dollar race cars make brilliant noises at road atlanta. And if my memory serves me correct Jason said he was going this year. One dissapointment after another.

I can't back out on Family man. You know the situation that I am going through right now and my dad bought tickets for him, my brother, and I to go to the Eagles vs Detroit game in Philly. I seriously wanted to go to Road Atlanta. Until right now I had no idea what the date for it even was. Sorry man.
Also we have to leave for Wekfest at 5am on Sunday cause apparently cars in vendor booths have to be in betwen 7-8am so we are just going to show up at 8am cause I am sure as hell not leaving at 4am. Going to be a hella long day.

So you can now blame the hold up for my car on Comptech indirectly. The company that makes the blowers for comptech only started working to repair my blower after they have had it for 2 months. I even got the place that makes the part that I thought was the hold up to halt production and rush make me one for this Friday but now it isn't needed since I do not have a blower anyways.
Eric I am not sure when you plan on getting to PA but if you arrive early enough Friday I may treat you to seeing the TSX at the shop but would have to arrive pretty early for that to happen.

Here is my coverage for the weekend. I created a new thread for it over in car talk since I actually did a lot of coverage for once and got them posted fairly quickly if you consider I didn't even get back to NC till midnight Monday night and had got up for work at 5:30am Tuesday then.

Good luck with the move!
Car is filthy right now. Plan had been to rotate the tires and wash it today, but it's too damn hot . I did some other stuff outside and when it came time to do the car, I said fuck it . I did rinse it off, though . I will at least rotate the tires and wash the insides of the wheels some time this weekend.
