i think i'll just get this 50mm 1.4 or 1.8 for walk around and tokina 11-16 f/2.8 for my main lens this time.
if i want to get a good walk around lens, i want to spend like $1200 on it, not like $600-700 and get something just alright.. so i'll just get it next time.
well i'm happy anyway

josh what's your camera gear list??
what's like the good walk around lens for under 300 bucks?
im going to order that tokina 11-16, and it's 600 bucks. so i'm trying not to go over my initial budget..
50mm 1.8 good enough? or should i get 50mm 1.4? local photographer is selling both of them for some cheap..

I would say it really depends on what kind of photography you're really interested in ... for example that tokina is EXTREMELY wide ... you're really not going to be needing that extreme of an angle unless you're shooting landscapes, architecture or just fun/artistic shots. a 18-55IS has enough of a range that you can shoot pretty wide while still having the option of shooting further away (plus it's only about $80 versus the $570 or so price tag of the tokina)
Also, if the 50/1.4 is within your budget, it'll create some pretty awesome shots while also giving you some crazy range into low-lighting situations ... but then again if price is a factor, the 1.8 does a good enough job (every photographer has one hahaa)
the sigma 24-70/2.8 has just OK reviews ... i think tamron's 28-75/2.8 and 17-50/2.8 are better options though (better reviews in general too) ... price-wise i think they all fall into the same range. Basically, all you would really need are the 17-50/2.8, 50/1.8 nd perhaps a telephoto lens if you find need for it ... i think this is the cheapest option (unless you choose the 18-55IS instead of the tamron)
haha, you're gonna hate it having a prime lens as a walk around..

^yeah definitely ... using a prime helped me think more about different angles, lighting conditions, focal lengths, composition nd whatnot by forcing me to move to a certain location to take my pictures ... but it is a pain in the a$$ lolll

I like shooting cars mostly. That's the reason why i was trying to get tokina 11-16. guys over at C&P section recommended that one to me.
Is this the one that i should get then? (Tamron Zoom Super Wide Angle SP AF 17-50mm f/2.8 XR Di II LD Aspherical [IF] Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS Digital Cameras @ $459.95)
I'm meeting this photographer tonight to check out her 50mm 1.4 & 1.8. I'll try to get 1.8 for $75. lol
so it'll be the best, if i get tamron 17-50 f/2.8 and 50 f/1.8? and maybe canon 70-200mm later on? lol

The Tokina 11-16 is a great lens if you have a Nikon IMO. It is comparable if not better than Nikon's UWA for hundreds less. Since you have a Canon, I would get Canon 10-22 for about $30 more brand new.

tokina is almost 200 bucks cheaper and has f/2.8 vs. canon's f/3.5-4.5...
