My wife has a Mazda3 s GT 5-Door with a stick and the 2.5 liter mill; the car is nice and comfortable to drive and has decent power; that said, it ain't in the same league as my TL 6MT from an acceleration perspective. If the Mazda6 with the 2.5T is offered with the full boat of options and a manual transmission, yikes, that would make for a nice ride; might even entice me to take it out for a spin.

Comparing it to a 6MT 3G, I would give the edge to the TL.
I'd also be really surprised if the turbo 6 is available with the 6MT. Only the Sport & Touring trims are currently available with a manual; and I'd expect the turbo to be a GT trim requirement, or a trim above GT.
Will be really interesting to see the 2.5T make its way into the 3GT.

Hmmm, I'm thinking it would be more of an edge. Why? My 2001 V6 Accord is a virtual match for the Mazda3 s GT 6MT in acceleration; the 3G 6MT TL is significantly faster than both.
#806
I found the 2.5 6MT in the Mazda 3 & 6 to be at least on par with the 2G TL in acceleration feel.

Maybe you looked at the Mazda 6 sedan, with its great styling, well-designed interior and agile handling and said something along the lines of: I really like this thing, but I sure do wish it had a punchier motor -- maybe the 2.5-liter turbo-four from the CX-9 crossover, for example.
Well, Mazda must have dozens of covert listening devices installed all around your home and or office -- because that’s exactly what they just announced at the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show. For the 2018 model year, higher-trim Mazda 6 sedans will use the SKYACTIV-G 2.5T motor; when run on 93-octane fuel, the turbocharged 2.5-liter produces 250 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque -- a healthy bump over the 184 hp/185 lb-ft of the naturally aspirated 2.5-liter already found in the 6.
Other Mazda 6s will stick with the naturally aspirated inline-four. The non-turbo motor is the only way to go if you want a six-speed manual; the 2.5T gets a six-speed auto exclusively. Hey, don’t complain to us; send your angry letters to Mazda.
Mazda's premium push continues with the just-announced 2018 Mazda 6 Signature. Note the band of wood, leather and metal stretching across the dashboard, interrupted only by the steering wheel -- a nice touch!
Like the CX-9 from which it borrows its engine, range-topping 6 sedans will also get the Signature trim treatment -- more evidence of Mazda's shift to premium, or at least its own unique interpretation of it. That means a slate of nice materials drawn from the brand’s Japanese roots and … actually, we’re just going to pull right from the Mazda press release for this. There’s no sense in trying to paraphrase it:
Mazda6’s Signature interior features authentic materials -- brown napa leather, whose color is inspired by the aged wood in ancient Japanese temples; UltraSuede NU that is adorned with a subtle gold tint, using a similar technique to that which is used to make ornate kimonos; and Sen wood accents, a type of wood often used in taiko drums and Japanese furniture.
Last, but not least: The seats get a big upgrade; the front seats are wider -- trying to tell us something, Mazda? -- and for the first time, ventilation is available.
Plus, Mazda says the 2018 6 is even quieter than 2017 model because of body reinforcements, thicker rear wheel well sheetmetal, extra bracing and thicker suspension trailing link mounts. And it should handle better thanks in part to a revised suspension geometry steering rack that is now rigid-mounted to the chassis (we suspect the rack was mounted on business before, but the handling was already great).
The 2018 Mazda 6 should go on sale in the spring. We expect pricing information (and fuel economy specs for the new 2.5T) ahead of that.

The pictures look like the multifunction display is carried over from previous models and is virtually identical to the lame unit in our 2016 Mazda3 s GT. How lame is it? It is so lame, even though our car has NAV, I take my 2012 vintage Garmin on long trips so screen space can be made available for other controls such as the audio system and the trip computer.
Given the screen is large enough, it is too bad Mazda doesn't allow a segmented screen where you could say, have an old analog style "ribbon" display across the top for the Radio/XM info, a smaller box to the right for say, the Trip Computer, and another box to the left for a Nav screen.

6 Appeal: Mazda’s Newly Turbocharged Midsize Reveals Its MPGs As Automaker Hopes Upscale Push Pays Off
This is the sixth model year for the third-generation Mazda 6 which, despite its age, remains arguably the best-looking midsize sedan on the market. Mazda belatedly answered long-standing cries for more power by offering a turbocharged 2.5-liter inline-four for 2018, giving the model the grunt it needs to back up its sporting pretentions.
We now know what drivers can expect at the pumps from this engine, borrowed from the CX-9 parts bin. However, can the emergence of a true Mazda 6 sports sedan rekindle waning interest in the model?

I find it very odd that the 6 will now offer ventilated seats but the CX9 does not. But more on topic, the lack of AWD really kills this car for me. I love that you can get AWD on the fusion, I think Ford is way ahead of the curve with that and I hope Mazda follows suit.

I see so few of these in the Northeast. Which is a shame, because the value for the fit and finish is great. They would take a lot more market share if they offered an AWD variant. Like the Fusion, for example
EDIT : RDX10 said the same thing lol

Lol glad to see we’re totally on the same page! Also both of us live in typically much snowier places so we get the appeal/importance of AWD (not trying to get into a winter tires vs AWD debate, I like putting snow tires on my AWD cars ).

I bet that 310lb/ft would lend itself to some nasty torque steer, especially in a car as light as the 6. Not a fan of really powerful FWD (or even RWD cars, though I don’t mind this as much) cars.

The New Mazda6 Wagon made its world debut, and the Sedan its European debut, at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show. The latest update to the Mazda6 is the most comprehensive yet, offering enhanced quality in almost every detail of Mazda's flagship model. It features a more mature, elegant and refined exterior design, and extensive interior revisions including completely new front and rear seating.
New technologies boost the performance of all SKYACTIV powertrains, and driving dynamics have been enhanced through increased body rigidity, steering and suspension system revisions, greater aerodynamic efficiency and reduced NVH. Safety has also been improved, the New Mazda6 offering an even wider range of driver support systems through the adoption of advanced i-ACTIVSENSE safety features such as Mazda Radar Cruise Control with Stop & Go, and a 360° View Monitor.

2018 Mazda6: Premium Performance and Design Heighten Appeal
2018 Mazda6 Goes on Sale Next Month with New Turbo Power
March 15, 2018
IRVINE, Calif. (March 15, 2018) – Adorned with authentic materials like our Japanese Sen Wood and Nappa leather, the 2018 Mazda6 elevates its premium positioning above the mainstream fray and into a higher class of competition. New technologies and refinements complement Mazda6’s stellar reputation for driving dynamics and design.
Thoroughly re-engineered for 2018, Mazda6 is quieter, more comfortable, carries more standard and available features and even comes with a newly available engine option, the torquey, turbocharged SKYACTIV-G 2.5T.
Every detail has been rethought to polish and elevate Mazda6. Yet, Mazda6 doesn’t betray its roots, still available with its six-speed SKYACTIV-MT manual transmission in the entry Mazda6 Sport model as well as an available, quick-shifting SKYACTIV-DRIVE six-speed automatic transmission with Sport Mode that recalibrates the transmission for more spirited driving.
Mazda6 Sport comes with an efficient SKYACTIV-G 2.5 engine, which enjoys a number of refinement upgrades for 2018. Smoother and quieter, the engine now produces 187 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque. When paired with its available automatic transmission, Mazda6’s 2.5-liter engine comes standard with cylinder-deactivation technology, which shuts off its two outside cylinders in cruising conditions for even more efficiency. Mazda is the only automaker to employ this technology in a four-cylinder engine in North America.
Additionally, Mazda6 Sport comes standard with an electronic parking brake, cloth seats, a six-way manual driver’s seat with lumbar support, dual-zone climate control, remote keyless entry, push-button start, a 60/40 split-folding rear seat, cruise control, 17-inch alloy wheels, a six-speaker audio system, Bluetooth phone and audio pairing, MAZDA CONNECTTM infotainment system with and Commander control knob and touchscreen control, rearview camera, a new eight-inch display screen, Blind Spot Monitoring and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert. Other newly standard features include LED headlights and tail lights and Smart City Brake Support, which automatically applies the brakes in emergency stops below 19 mph.
When paired with its available six-speed automatic transmission, Mazda6 Sport can be had with the i-ACTIVSENSE package, further adding Smart Brake Support, Lane-Departure Warning, adaptive Mazda Radar Cruise Control, Lane-Keep Assist, High Beam Control, automatic on/off headlights and rain-sensing windshield wipers.
Mazda6 Touring includes all of the convenience and safety features available in Mazda6 Sport but upgrades to leatherette seating surfaces, standard SKYACTIV-DRIVE six-speed automatic transmission, 19-inch alloy wheels, Advanced Keyless Entry and a six-way power driver’s seat. Rear HVAC vents, heated front seats and a power moonroof complement the package.
Turbocharged motivation catapults Mazda6 Grand Touring, equipped with Mazda’s SKYACTIV-G 2.5T, which can generate a robust 310 lb-ft of torque from just 2,000 RPM. It offers effortless performance, with power sent through a SKYACTIV-DRIVE six-speed automatic that was developed specifically for high-torque applications. Power comes on nearly instantaneously, courtesy of its innovative Dynamic Pressure Turbocharger, which uses a small valve to create high boost pressure, akin to holding your thumb over the end of a garden hose. Once the engine is up to speed, a secondary valve opens up to allow more airflow through the turbocharger.
Mazda6 Grand Touring also adds an 11-speaker BOSE® Premium audio system, SiriusXM satellite radio with a four-month trial subscription, Mazda Navigation, an auto-dimming interior mirror, auto-dimming driver-side mirror, heated side mirrors and paddle shifters mounted on the steering wheel.
Further upping the ante, Mazda6 Grand Touring Reserve comes with black or Parchment leather-trimmed seats, a windshield-projected Active Driving Display with Traffic Sign Recognition, an eight-way power driver’s seat, six-way power front passenger’s seat, Adaptive Front-lighting System (AFS), brilliant silver alloy wheels, rear lip spoiler, windshield wipers de-icer, heated rear seats and a heated steering wheel. Mazda6 Grand Touring Reserve is also the entry point for Mazda’s first-ever ventilated front seats, which wick hot air away from the driver and front passenger’s backs to keep them cool.
The lineup is bookended with the new Mazda6 Signature, becoming the second Mazda model behind Mazda CX-9 to offer this aspirational trim level, replete with premium amenities. Mazda6 Signature is available with either Parchment or Deep Chestnut Nappa leather seating surfaces, Japanese Sen wood interior accents, gilded UltraSuede® NU whose coloring was inspired by Japanese kimonos, a new 360⁰ View Monitor, front and rear parking sensors, a seven-inch TFT reconfigurable gauge display, frameless rearview mirror and a gunmetal-colored grille.
Thoroughly reworked underneath the sheet metal, Mazda6 integrates many of the learnings introduced in the CX-5 and CX-9 crossover SUVs and goes a step further to build an engaging, confident sedan that only Mazda could build, with as ample a presence at a valet on Rodeo Drive as the snaking roads of Mulholland Drive.
MSRP[2] for the 2018 Mazda6 is as follows:
Mazda6 Sport 6MT : $21,950
Mazda6 Sport 6AT : $23,000
Mazda6 Grand Touring : $29,200
Mazda6 Grand Touring Reserve : $31,700
Mazda6 Signature : $34,750
Premium Paint Colors:
Soul Red Crystal : $595
Machine Gray Metallic : $300
Snowflake White Pearl Mica : $200
The 2018 Mazda6 will be available in dealerships nationwide in April.

Holy cow! Reading that options list on the signature trim and it’s just like WOW THIS IS A MAZDA?! I’m so impressed with where Mazda is going and what they have been able to do with being such a small company. Now if they added AWD, I would be sold and this would be on the list for me, but sadly not going to fly for me in FWD only.
#832
Will be interesting to see how this competes/compares with the new Accord. It already has the Camry and Altima (lol) beat without even trying. The price is definitely not bad at all either...
I'll take mine in 2.5T Signature wagon form...oh wait...

Even the current Mazda 6 got Camry and Altima beat.... but buyers never cared.
They better advertise the shit out of these and provide some competitive programs to get the customers in... cuz clearly their products are good but they are not selling and there must be a reason for that.

Car stigmas die hard. This car can be the best sedan ever produced and people will still be slow to adopt it... Because Camry. Or Accord. Doesn't even matter if the Camry is chock full of short comings. All people see is the name, and that's good enough for them.
#836
I've seent some of the new camry's in the wild. Looks pretty nice for a Camry.
that said this Mazda 6 has been on my list as a potential replacement for my 3G TL.
its a shame the turbo doesn't come in manual

I first thought that it was a bit expensive (turbo starts with Mazda6 Grand Touring : $30090 or as per in the text $29200), but the cheapest Accord 2.0T I found is the Sport: $30310. I definitely would take the Mazda over the Honda. My 626 2.0T 1987 had... 120HP. lol.
For us, poor people. the Mazda6 turbo is rated EPA 23/31/26.
