I would rather clean the steering wheel with a soap and water combo...to see if that helps...
i dont think you would get good results painting an object that gets handled daily.
but of course depends on what kind of damage the steering wheel received over the years....if it's just dirt and grime LIKE most steering wheels...it can be easily cleaned with soap and water....
now if you neglected it to the point of the leather is coming off....a full re-wrap or it would be better to just get a used steering wheel...and clean that one
After a fair amount of research I came to the conclusion that there really is no long term way to restore the leather on a wheel. I came across a mint condition '01 MDX wheel for $45 (I don't think the kid knew what he had) so I went with it. The color is a little off from the airbag, so the plan is to hopefully find some vinyl paint that matches more closely and paint that. The finish on the airbag is pretty beat up anyway.
^^ The answer to my question is a resounding no. Spokes are different as well the hub plate. I snagged one thinking I could modify it but there is no way without buying an airbag and the switches, not to mention some wire splicing.
If anyone needs an 03-06 MDX tan wood/leather wheel I have one in the black market section. $175 shipped
You may not run into this being up north and all; however, down here in the 'heat' the coloring used on the airbag cover tends to deteriorate and become sticky. I had a parchment steering wheel in my 03 CLS6, which looked similar to your original, and swapped it out for an Ebony one I bought from a member on here from Chicago. Anyways, It's been a few years now and it, the Ebony airbag cover, has since started to get sticky as it deteriorates from age/heat. A member on the thread below removed the sticky goo coloring with googone, so, if you run into that problem it has been addressed, as well.
Hello, I'm new to this forum. I just purchased a 2003 TL-S, and I love your steering wheel, same color and all. I wanted to know where you purchased it from?
Thanks
