Car movement in Park - is that normal?
So I noticed one weird thing of late. Starting with my wife about to fall off the car when I put the car to park and dint engage the parking brake and when my wife was about to get off, I released the foot brake for me to exit the car. the car moved a 1-2 inches back and then had a slight rocking motion and came to halt. I am reluctant to go to to dealership, as they will call this "normal and operating within limits". this generally happens that when the car is in park. I am also able to push the car a couple of inches atleast, it stops after that.. cant do the same to my CRV so wanted to know if this is 'normal' for Acura.

this happens on all the cars I drive.
tell your wife to be patient or let off the brake before letting your wife out of the car!

Ok, so here is more info. My car is a early build TLX, and there was a recall around this issue. my VIN is well within the ViNs mentioned in NHTSA website, however, there is no mention of recall anywhere. I checked with dealership they are unware of any recalls being performed.
Is it possible the manufacture missed performing the recall? what are the limits of car movement when parked around this recall?
if the manufacturer missed my VIN (outside chance) how do I get back to them? @thaiboi -> try stuff with your wife and let me know how it goes

The motion you described is normal for an autotragic transmission. When you stop the car the transmission stops moving but it may not necessarily be in the right position where the Parking Pawl engages its stop. When you let off the brake, or neglect to set the parking brake, the car may roll forwards or rearwards until the pawl engages.
Some times even with the parking brake set, there may be some motion if the clamping force on the rotor isn't sufficiently high to prevent the car from moving. This is normal. (although, with the fancy electronic parking brake gizmo of the TLX, this might not happen as often)

Is it a 2015+ CRV with the CVT? I don't know 100% for sure, but I wouldn't be surprised to find a CVT oesn't do the roll since whatever wonky system (rubberbands and paddleballs or whatever) it uses is always in some sort of friction zone and there isn't any slack to take up.

Going back to the original post ... was your wife actually ON the car, and in danger of "falling off"?
Acura recommends that all passengers ride inside the car, not on the hood, trunk, or on top of the vehicle.

Really?? Should I trust acura recommendation given their recent history with tlx transmissions?

You're welcome...
think about it with a manual too...if you don't put the e brake on, and only rely on the gear to hold it...it'll bounce around a little...probably the spacing of neutral in the gear box between 1st and reverse or something like that.

Yep normal for most automatics... though I always engage the ebrake. I worry about stress on the transmission.
A feature that my wife's Lexus has is the option to automatically engage the e-brake whenever you shift into Park and disengages it when you shift to Drive.

Summer is Coming
The TLX will actually release the e-brake if you move the car forward or backward while it is engaged. It doesn't feel that great to do it, but it does release. It will not apply though, but it takes only an instant to pull up in the lever.

Null and proud of it
That's just how A/Ts are...
Sometimes they catch when put in park, sometimes, they have to roll back until the stop catches, what ever that is...
Use the parking brake, unless it's automatic, or just let the vehicle rest before or after she or you exit... Theses nothing normal, and pretty much every vehicle I've driven does this...

Wonder what they did in the 3G AT, then? I sure as hell don't remember that car bouncing around like this one does.

My 2007 RDX does this half of the time as did the 2016 Camry SE rental we had back in February, pretty much all autos do this, but I think it's more profound in never vehicles now that you mention this...

After breaking up with Ford, Mazdas kicking butt!!!
Just no Speed3 or 6...
They should at least put the new 2.5 turbo from the new CX-9 in the 6 sedan...
And Audi is number 3 in reliability, and VWs drive nicely too, but I'm a fanboy and want some Vtec!!!
Don't forget how nice some of the new Kia/Hyundais are getting, still miss my 07 Kia, good little cuv...
Acually, these days, you almost can't go wrong though...
Sorry for a long post, don't mean to

Audi #3 in reliability, I'm not sure reliability tests are reliable anymore.
...and yes, I'd stall take any Honda over almost every other common car out there even with their cost cutting measures. Lets hope the new president turns them around.

Honda putting s ZF9 in anything disturbs me in a way... Honda has always made their trannies in-house, it's like transmissions are now made by one company for automakers to pair to their engine and chassis of choice, like say, a sun visor...
This transmission is also used in the Jeep Cherokee, go figure...
