I am trying to find out the ATF flow in my 2G MDX.. Just need confirmation from you guys.

As far as I have been reading the Service Manual it is:
Trans > Radiator > ATF Cooler > Trans

Is this correct?
I am trying to by pass my radiator cooler (To prevent future damage on a failing radiator ATF cooler) but I don´t know if the OEM ATF Cooler has a built in T-Stat or not? Pictures are very vague but it seems like is a straight through cooler. I want to by pass the radiator and Install a big ass ATF cooler instead but I don´t want it before the OEM ATF Cooler if it has a built in T-Stat..

I would like to know either of that.
1.- Is the flow diagram correct?
2.- OEM ATF Cooler has a built in T-Stat?

Either of those answers will work for me.
If it has a T-STAT:
Trans > OEM Cooler > AFT Cooler > Trans
If it doesn´t have a T-STAT:
Trans > AFT Cooler > OEM Cooler > Trans

Shooting in the dark but check to see if there's any codes for ATF Temp Sensor circuits, that would sort of be the way to figuring out if the ATF system has a thermostat.

Over cooling the fluid will cause bubbles/foam.

Choose a low pressure mid size, for a V6.
You'll see that large trucks have very large BTU options, you won't want one that big.
Some low pressure coolers are directional and I don't know if the OEM cooler is marked in/out.

To determine the direction of flow, remove the hose from one end of the OEM cooler and have some quickly start and stop the engine. The fluid will either squirt out of the hose or out of the cooler.

It looks like a straight through to me..

I think I am going for V8 Car ATF Cooler.. Considering the GVWR of the MDX and our 120°F summers seems like a right fit as the OEM ATF Cooler looks like an afterthought.

If ATF gets too cold I will use the OEM ATF Cooler as a Power Steering Cooler and leave the B&M as an Exclusive cooler for the ATF.

 

Interesting... I personally don't know, but I figured if this was done on the Honda Pilot, it can't be too far off for the MDX

 

It isn´t overkill in my opinion.. We don´t have freezing temps here in So Cali and our summer are scorching hot 125°F.. This solution helps both ends, Piece of mind for the radiator cooler failure and 125°F summer protection.

I will try to do this as a DIY too but its so straight forward it might just be useless.
