HID on a 1996-1998 RL

I should have posted first but, I want to know if anyone has installed a HID kit on the 1996-1998 Acura RL? I have ordered a kit for my 1998 i'm very interested in how it looks.

This guy has done a retrofit.
https://acurazine.com/forums/1g-rl-1996-2004-77/wtf-sorry-56k-786656/ thats for the first gen rl aka 96-98

this one is for an 1999-2004 rl
http://forums.acuralegend.org/2002-acura-rl-w-t883.html

Things to know about this is that there are two ways of doing it, the proper way is to retrofit it because it would control the light, increase visibility, and avoids blinding other drivers. The other way is without doing the retrofit and the light would scatter in the reflective housing blinding other drivers and reducing visibility.
I recommend you check your local law about doing this thou, I live in mass and they prohibit modifying or altering dot equipment, so older cops might not really care much, but younger cops might have more enthusiasm about cracking down on it, it's easier to get way with it on a newer vehicle since a lot more newer models have them.

Good luck hope some of this info can be helpful.

What they said. HID bulbs in a halogen housing is kinda like putting on soccer cleats to play basketball.

So I saw the link on what happened at the end of the process. I also understand that I will just leave the HID kit on the shelf until I retro fit. How can I find out what projectors he used and such?

So I assume the next best thing to a retrofit would be the Silverstar Replacements?

I remember there was a company that used to do retrofits, you could either send yours in or purchase a new headlight and the retrofit labor.

About the sylvania lightstar, I have them, they are great but you are gonna sacrifice bulb life and they are not cheap. They last about a year, you have to be careful not to touch the bulb, the oil in your hands will make them fail/burn prematurely. I sugest keeping the receipt, if they blow before the year you claim your warrantee and you might get 2yrs.

No company will do the retrofit for 96-98RL period! It just too much work, look at my post, I have to sand the shitt out of the headlight. I spent two weeks on the headlights, and a couple of days to get the rotation horizontal level correct!
Anyway, to those interested in my setups, I used the OEM infinity FX projector with FX-R clear len. Don't get the FX-R projectors, they are to dim.
Pm me if you want to know where I got all the parts. Good luck.

Just buy an ebay kit and thats it. are your lenses clean? Give the kit a try and aim them correctly.

I've taken the HID's out of the box I will install them tomorrow. Worse case scenario I put the HID kit back in the box. I did get the kit on ebay

No bad, hope it's a good HID kit. Anyway make sure you mount the HID ballast inside the engine for the passenger side, don't mount it under the headlight. For the driver side you can mount under the headlight on the frame. At first I mounted the ballast for the passenger side under the headlight it burn because of the water leakage after a few months.

What K are you getting? Don't tell me you getting the 12000k lol

It's installed, they look good my headlights were aimed properly. I put the drivers ballast on the strut in the engine bay. The passenger ballast I installed behind the headlight. I will have a mechanic at work look it over tomorrow to ensure the location does not get in the way of anything.

I went with the 6000k my girlfriend said the blue lights don't go with the car LOL
