Maybe I'm trippin' lol
Sup guys.
Maybe I'm trippin' but, does the TL have "heavy steering" to you guys? I don't know any other way to describe it, it's just that while driving the MDX, I noticed that it took a lot less effort to steer that car in turns etc than the TL. And my dad's ES350, it takes little to no effort at all to to steer/turn that thing (no surprise here). Now I'm not complaining, I just want to know if anyone else noticed this. The only way I know how to describe this is that it's "heavy" or heavier to turn than the other 2 cars in the house.
Also, random fact:
- I still haven't found my "position" in the driver's seat yet..weird huh.
And another question:
Is driving in SS (sport-shift) bad?
Thanks guys and if anthing is a little hard to understand, forgive me. I've been studying for a mid-term non-stop these past few days
hahah.
Later,
David

Well, the MDX and ES350 aren't "driver's" cars. Light steering at speed=not good.
The 3G TL is meant to be a "sport" sedan, hence the heavier steering. I personally prefer the heavier steering, because I like to drive.
There's absolutely nothing wrong with driving in SS mode.
Hope this helps!

My son drives a pick up truck. One day he drove my TL-S and couldn't believe how heavy the steering was. He truck you can turn with one finger. We I first bought the car I also noticed the heavy steering, but you get used to it.
I've been thinking the same thing about my steering wheel. Only thing that makes me believe its fine is that my S4 has a similar stiff feeling to it.
I should drive my sisters 09 TSX to see if its stiff also.

The 09 TSX is not stiff like the TL's steering. Actually I find it touchy.......
I meant the '09 TSX (and 4G TL) have this:

Which reportedly kills steering feel & feedback.
I'm driving the "regular" one:

Another first for the TSX model is the use of Electric Power Steering (EPS). Rather than powering a hydraulic steering-assist pump via the engine's serpentine accessory belt, as used with the current TSX, in the 2009 model the steering assist is via a computer-actuated electric motor ....

.... STEERING
The TL uses torque-sensing, variable power-assisted rack and pinion steering. The engine-driven variable-output pump provides the kind of steering feel that driving enthusiasts like: modest steering effort at low speeds and precise feel at higher speeds.
For 2007, the TL Type-S receives revised power steering pumps and steering gearboxes to improve steering effort build and feeling while maintaining a confident and stable feel. To this end, the power steering pump has been retuned for decreased flow at 3250 rpm for increased effort build up.
Additionally, the steering gearbox tuning increased effort by 15 percent at high speeds for better on-center feel. ....

hahahah j/k don't ban me. Seriously I hope I can get used to this. I have never had a car with steering this heavy and I have had many sports cars an sedans.
No problem. I was used to it in a couple of weeks.
I hear the type S steering is heavier. Does anyone know whats the difference? Is the rack styled different or something? I would be willing to put a Type S rack in my base TL. I love feeling what the front tires are doing.
gotta love the steering feel in the type s..heavy at first but u work out ur left arm, next thing u know u be whippin turns with one hand
I beleive it is the rack and pinion..I heard it has a external cooler as well as the tranny.

Thanks Bearcat. I skimmed through your post so I didn't get the whole thing...On another note I drove my moms 99 Odyssey and that is the type of steering I want to feel! Now to research to see if the Type S Rack bolts right on and what slight modifications are needed! I could put a restriction on the line but that would just be retarded and build up too much pressure that might blow something up lol or fatigue a hose =D.

no modification needed, its a direct swap.
might be one fo my future mods aswell...
