it rained pretty bad for a couple days here in boston and when I went out to my car this morning, there was RUST on the roof of my car about an inch forward of my sunroof. It was maybe half the diameter of a dime (kinda small) but enough to worry me.

I called the dealer and they said that there is no 100,000 mile/10 yr corrosion warranty but I'm still covered under my other 40k warranty BUT the service director as to first assess it to make sure its under warranty and approve the work.

My question is has anyone else seen their cars rust??? I mean in this day and age?

Also if i just leave the rust spot (cuz its kinda small) will it get worse? and how much to fix it if not under warranty?

i havent had rust on my car...

thats kinda wierd.. how oftern do you wash your car? Its better to fix it now to prevent corrosion later.... You can go get an estimate from different shops or ask them for some advice.. whether to use touch up paint or somthing else...

i have about 2 rust spots on my car, one spot on the roof and another on the trunk where a rock hit and it rusted over. then there is a spot on my back bumper where my gold license plate cover oxidizied onto the bumper the cars a mess )= i can't wait till i get the paint done.

i have a couple of rust spots too, about the size of a pen tip where rocks have chipped off the paint.

There is a really good site for detailing your car, which includes how to fix rock chips and scratches. At Autopia.org in the How To section there is a Detailing E-book that you can download (best to have a broadband connection) or you can just look around there and I am sure that you will find it. It explains how to repair chips and scratches so that you can not tell that they were ever there. This will prevent the rust, and if you do it right, you should be able to get rid of the rust that you have, but of course its better to take care of the chips before the rust appears.

If you download the E-Book, (free to download) be sure to register it (also free), that will allow you to see all of the book. (they have part of the book password protected so that you have to register in order to see all of it.)

I know that this post should probably be in the Wash and Wax forum, but thought that with these questions and comments, it was appropriate to put it here.

went to acura of boston and they said they can't cover it. a rock or pebble prob hit it and i didnt notice it. then the rain and moisture rusted the edges. its still pretty small... they wanted 600 to fix it!

anyone know any good body shops around boston,allston/brighton?

Take a corner of sandpaper and just get the rust out of the chip. Then get some repair paint and fix it yourself. That is waht I did

I agree, or pay a couple hundred to get the entire panel painted.

some of you guys need to clay your car. i bet that would take a good amount of the rust off.

if its a rock chip and it rusted, thats a different story.

Try checking out http://www.autopia-carcare.com/autopia/how-to.html, and apply the basic principles there and do the repair yourself.... just take some time and do it right!

I have rust on the rear bumper brace on the inside of the bumper.

The only rust I've seen on my car is on a few of the lug nuts. Probably some tech scratched them with an air wrench.
