Angry 2003 TL Factory subwoofer out

Hey AcuraZine. Its been a minute, but my 2003 TL-S is still rolling (291,000 miles!!) Noticed my factory sub is not working...bought a replacement bose amp and woofer but still no sound. Was hoping I would not have to drop the headunit, etc..Anyone have any clue what the issue could be? The crossover in trunk maybe? The remote turn-on from radio? I don't know...Radio and four door speakers work fine. Maybe a fuse? (I could only hope.) I'm going back out now to check for power to harness, etc., but looking for any help. Tired messing with this thing....

I highly doubt is the HU.. More likely the Sub Amp or crossover took a dump..
Have you tried testing for current?

Check passenger fuse box-fuse#9.

At the sw amp.

Power wire is WHT/GRN. Careful some speaker wires are also WHT/GRN. LOL
Ground wire is BLK.
Trigger wire is ORN.

The power wire to amp is hot 24/7.

The module at the right rear package tray is the antena coil not cross over.

I see 2 small black boxes in the trunk. 1 says "tdk" which I know is an audio company and has a plugs on the left and right side...I take it this is the xover-correct fellas? The other box has no plugs running to it..no clue what that could be for...

Thanks 01acls....I just read on a previous thread that xover is built into amp under rear seat...if that's the case, then I'm stumped because I tried another one today...still no sub...damn....

Is there power at the trigger wire... Orange color?

Or supply a hot to the orange wire to turn on the amp.

I think the amp is under the seat back (vertical) of the rear seats.

Assuming the replacement amp is good, then your next step is to:

1. Test for power to the amp, main power supply, if none then supply power to test for sound.

2. Test for power to the trigger wire, if none then supply power to test for sound.

3. If still no sound after supplying power to both 1 and 2, then supply a musical source to the low level speaker in terminal at the amp. Make sure the grounding wire is good at the amp.

Once all 4 requirements are present the amp will either work or not definitively.

The easiest way to supply a known good musical source is to use a CD player, phone, or mp3 pllayer via the headphone jack. Just go to a 99 cents store and buy a cheap head phone. Make sure that it works and then cut the ear buds off. Now stripe the rubber insulation off so only bare wire is showing, than plug the jack into the musical source (keep the bare wires separated) and connect the bare low level musical source wires to the amp's low level input.

After all this if it still does not sound then the head unit is bad or the low level speaker wires going to the amp is bad.

Thanks o1acls! I will try next weekend...great suggestions...now, lets say there is no power at 1 or 2 of your list...how do I supply power? tap into what wires? or just run a wire from the fuse box?

No power

Check the under hood fuses #41, 54, and pax fuse #9. If all fuses are good then you have a severed wire but you need to test the fuses for voltage to be sure. Don't just eye it and assume that the fuses are good.

Yes, supply power direct from car battery via a wire, even if its speaker wire just for testing.

It's a good idea to power up the amp and make it works to eliminate that part of the system and move on to something else.

Ahh did you testt he woofer to see if it works? That should of been the first thing you should of done, assuming it's an easy access to the speaker terminals from the trunk.

Yup, tested the old and new woofer-they work...bought the 2nd one today for $8 as a backup....you say "under hood" fuses...under the hood? not the ones IN the car? the #9 fuse in the car is good...radio does have power...
