Check engine light on '08 5AT TL-S

Has just over 91,000 miles. I borrowed one of the code scanners from an auto store and had these come up: 61-1 ABS Battery Voltage Malfunction, and 81-1 ABS Antilock Brake System Control Unit Malfunction. Usually whenever I've had the CEL show up in the past it has gone away on its own and would also send me a message about it on the Nav screen, but no messages this time. I'm just hoping this isn't a real serious or expensive issue.

with the temps being cold, it's probably a sign of your battery being on it's way out. I'd pick up a replacement battery. AGM batteries are much better and last easily twice as long. You can use online coupon codes (pep boys usually has 35% off) and gift cards from giftcardgranny and save close to 40% off plus pick it up instore.

Battery on its way out, check and change new battery, Also your HFL unit might be on the way out which draw power from your battery.

I will be checking the battery voltage as soon as I can, but the thing about the battery is that I just replaced it barely a year ago and it's an Everstart Maxx, one of the top rated batteries by Consumer Reports. At the time when I replaced the old battery it was very clearly a weak battery and would often take multiple key turns to start the car, or even not be able to start the car at all without giving the battery a good recharge first; I don't recall ever seeing the CEL, though, during those clear battery issues for some odd reason. And the car is still starting great right now. The previous owner said he had the HFL replaced, but I've literally never even used it once so I hope it wouldn't still be able to draw power.

HFL will draw power regard you use it or not (even with no key in the ignition), the unit can become "hot" mine start from warm then goes to hot and then bam it fail. I replace with a new unit now it run cooler than the old one. I had the same code as you before since day one I bought the car at 59k miles, dealer record show the car has battery replace 3 times previous to my possession. But I think the main cause is the dam HFL since my car will need to jump start if I left the car ignition "on" to listen radio while vacumming and cleaning. I then try to start the car and nothing happened as I turn the key.
