Auto Tranny Not engaging

I found a 2003 Acura MDX and fell in love with it. It drives like a dream and has no leaks, noises, etc. Engine is so quiet I really had to listen to hear it. Only problem is the Automatic Transmission does not engage, it has to manually be switched from gear to gear. Not a big deal but just trying to figure out if it is a major transmission issue or something minor like a shift lever solenoid. It does have 199,000 miles.

Those years were severely affect by a severe transmission issue... Does the trans slip while in gear?

Check the connector at the Mainshaft and Countershaft speed sensors for a loose connection. If nothing obvious try replacing the two sensors.

First of all does the car have a check engine light on ?
Sounds to me like the A/B solenoid could be defective.
